This is a thread for OOC discussions.

Ok guys, sorry about that! I did not want to offer a solid date on when I would make my decision, only to look like I was stringing people along. That said, I realize that my silence on the messageboards looks even worse. Hindsight is 20/20, no rose-tinting, after all.

I have determined that, due to suggestions that I have gotten from some long-time PBP'ers, I will only open one WotR campaign.

My six players are as follows:

1. Edward Sobel's Sabrina De'Foe (Paladin/Warlord)

2. The Morphling's Anarya (Paladin/Oracle)

3. Logan Holt's Davin Shadowcloak (Fighter/Rogue)

4. Riuk's Kothar Kreedan (Warpriest/Inquisitor)

5. Quennessaa's Chaia Pomala (Wizard/Oracle)

6. Doomed Hero's Kel the Guardsman (Paladin/Oracle)

This decision was quite difficult, as most of the characters were of just astounding quality!

Those of you selected, please head to discussion and post that you confirm being in the campaign and that your crunch/fluff is complete. I will make a gameplay post once all players are confirmed.

That GM Guy! has said that probably in a few days, he will pick a few of you up for his campaign as well, so those not selected, just hang around for a bit and see if you are selected.

Excellent points!

Give me a few hours before I decide what to do and then I will post.

I was mostly referring to does it lead to GM burnout quickly or what?

Sorry for the wait everyone! I was pretty tired last night and fell asleep in my chair.

Ok, so I have been thinking about who is getting selected and I am still not sure whether I want to run a second table, since there are so many AMAZING PCs, but not nearly enough slots in the campaign.

Does anyone have any suggestions about this? I have never run two tables of the SAME campaign before, so I don't know how well that would work. I tried asking my buddy 'That GM Guy!', but then I remembered that he GM'd 9 games on ONE website, not to mention any others he GM'd, so I'm not sure if his personal experience could accurately parallel mine.

Again, sorry for the wait everyone!

Arkus, of course I will!

Adrian Timeswift, just PM me which encounters you need 3 at a time as they come up. I'm much too lazy to type up the monstrous composition book full of statblocks for the modifications. I would rather dole them out piecemeal, especially with feedback on which level seems to work best for your party. Just let me know via the personal message system here on Paizo!

Cuan, understood!

Drbuzzard, a fair point, but also one of the reasons that I viewed gestalt as being feasible. The encounters were already, for the most part, too weaksauce after book 3 to actually pose a challenge, hence they had to be rewritten anyway to make the AP challenging. Seeing as how the lower levels could swing either way, with the challenges wither being too easy or too difficult, I figured those would need slight modification anyway. I already have applied the same type of troubleshooting to book one that I did with kingmaker. There are options for encounters to be -1 or -2 on what I call the difficulty scale, as well as +2 and +4 on the difficulty scale. Once I see where the PCs are at each level, it will be easy to scale challenges appropriately. That is one of the reasons that I have not been replying to non-question-based posts that much, because I was completing that. That said, there should be no issues with the AP's difficulty. I'm not one of the GMs that is too lazy to adjust encounters, because I played back in the olden days of AD&D where you often had to change things on the fly to keep PCs from getting TPK'd or you had to form a reasonable challenge for a party full of Clerics and Ninjas who rampaged across the lands in a tide of blood and buff spells. As it stands, unless there is blatant power-gaming, gestalt does not add much more power, only options. Action economy limits PCs from becoming too ungodly powerful anyway.

Anderlorn, recruitment will close around midnight EST, which is to say, in about five and a half hours.

Korak, those are allowed then, though you will need to use your class skill points to purchase them, or the extra skill point per level that you have. Sound fair?

Lord Manticore, I own most of the individual Mythic PDFs from Legendary Games, as well as their Mythic Bestiary! Hence, I sort of sneer when I hear the words, 'this AP will be too easy'. That's not even counting if I choose to use the Amalgam Creature template to essentially gestalt monsters, which I have already done in a few instances. Can you imagine the look on someone's face if I decided to gestalt a Mythic Balor with a Mythic Great Wyrm Red Dragon, using the Balor's form and type but gaining ALL the SAs and SQs of the dragon. Not going to be that cruel, but still, it's an option.

Philo Pharynx, if you wish to play as a Dreamscarred Press Duergar, it is approved.

Shinari Dawnbringer, Godling is allowed! In fact, this is one of the few APs where using one would make a lot of sense.

Adrian Timeswift, if you need help with running Reign of Winter as a gestalt, let me know. I already have redone each encounter to be more suitable for gestalt.

Kaval Treehopper, no stamina system.

FINISH UP THOSE CHARACTERS!

Ah ok, cool. Submit it, but just know that one slip up can bring the wrath of one of the resident Paladins!

Cuan, how secretive are you going to be? Will you disguise your dark powers or flaunt them (I presume that you are wanting a caster of some sort?)? What sort of tactics are you going to be using? There is going to be at least one Paladin on deck, so to speak, so some level of discretion would be in order. I am of the mindset that I do not disallow a wide range of alignments into a party, but neither do I disallow any conflict that is reasonable, so long as it is purely in-character between the characters and not the players.

Philo Pharynx, was I mistaken or was there some Half-Duergar race that was PC friendly? I've been playing tabletop RPGs for so long that sometimes I think one thing comes from Pathfinder when it really comes from D&D 3.X.

Korak, can you link it from the SRD? I can't seem to find the information on Background Skills for Pathfinder on the d20pfsrd. And as for equipment, yeah, you can change it up until you first use any of your equipment, in which case you must use what you have on you.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Just letting everyone know that I have NOT thrown up my hands in frustration at the large number of posts and applicants! I just haven't seen much that requires me to respond to, despite there being a lot of amusing posts.

I am also considering running an AP with a 'twist'. If anyone is interested in chiming in interest for this idea, as well as offering suggestions for what you would like to play in, please post HERE!

RECRUITMENT CLOSES TONIGHT, SO GET THOSE CHARACTERS WRITTEN UP!

Ok, so let me repost what I posted yesterday, which was apparently eaten.

Kingmaker isn't so bad. I actually made a nice list that covered each hex at each level possible in that book. If PCs didn't cover a hex, which only happened like twice in the entire campaign, I simply made a new array of encounters for it at the next range of levels. If you would like, you may PM me for suggestions on these, since I made it work with what is probably the most zig-zaggy party ever when it comes to hex maps. To give you an idea of the types of changes I make, let me tell you about one encounter in another hex-based game. The scripted encounter was for a Troll. They were about 4 levels below it, which is to say that they were in the TPK zone. Well, instead of them fighting the single Troll, I had them come across a burning glade where a wizard had fought and killed the Troll. The Troll was warped by fey energies, so even in death it still had a sort of life. The unburnt portions of it 'budded off' into Trollings, little baby Trolls that were listed in the Iron Kingdoms' 'Monsternomicon' and had fast healing instead of regeneration, though said fast healing was pretty high all things considered. It ended up being a little easier than I thought, primarily because the Wizard cast a spell to bring a burning tree down on two of the Trollings, but that was simply an intelligent use of the environment that was well rewarded.

No custom races allowed. I normally have no issues with custom races, if this was a standard campaign, but it isn't. As it stands right now, I much prefer known races for this AP.

Unchained Rogue and Occult Adventure material are allowed.

Why did the campaign go inactive? That's odd. Let me fix this before I respond.

Shi'Vatha, of course! :P

The Thing from Beyond the Edge, that is correct regarding your character choosing an ability from the table.

Mithridites, sure, which makes it even more obscure!

Edward Sobel, Divinitus's friend dropped from the Razor Coast campaign that he started, so he was looking for another player. Seeing as how I had already mentioned that I loved Razor Coast's vibe but never got to make a character for it, he offered me a slot.

Monkeygod, my mistake, I just though that the ideas were linked. Would have been interesting to see how you worked that angle.

Galahad0430, check your PM box soon. About to send the idea to you soon.

Ok, so Charter finally fixed the Internet, thankfully! Sorry for the delay in my posts.

I found Skill Unlocks under their relevant Skill on d20pfsrd, so I will be allowing people to use those if they so wish. Since they essentially cost nothing and just provide nice benefits to spending a lot of points on certain skills, something most people do anyway.

Multiclassing is allowed in gestalt on BOTH sides, but I will warn you that if I notice powergaming, I will ramp the difficulty up.

I have no issues with overlapping Mythic Paths and Classes, so please don't feel restricted by what others pick. I once ran a game with nothing but Inquisitors and it did just fine, after a bit of treasure tweaking.

Qunnessaa, Primal Magic is fine, just be aware that it can be good or bad. Not only that, but in certain areas, I might rule that it is stronger and have additional effects, given the areas soaked by Abyssal energy in lost Sarkoris. It would not be often, but it would happen occasionally.

Thuvius Breckindorf, it would have had to be a recent thing, due to to spoilers that I will not divulge. It is strictly a 'happened in the Worldwound exclusively' sort of thing. Demons have Immunity to Poison, but there are a few workarounds to that, plus I have access to the old 3.X good 'not-poisons' that affect evil creatures exclusively, I believe they were called Ravages.

JonGarret, if you are referring to the fractional system, then no. It is one of the few things that I have seen from Pathfinder Unchained on d20pfsrd that I had a knee jerk reaction of 'NO' to. The Giant Bloodline from Kobold Press and the Master of Many Styles Unchained Monk, however, ARE allowed!

Nice Divinitus! I should have that Razor Coast character ready by tomorrow, by the way.

Adsapiens, feel free to create a profile, as those help keep things neat and organized for me to peruse.

DM Gazebo God, you mean from Ultimate Magic?

The Indescribable, if you want Sleight of Hand, I can create a trait for you. I am wondering where Korak's stat block is though? Redemption is certainly something that can happen, though exactly what you can redeem is a different matter entirely. ;)

ScKnightHero1, MDT is correct in his assessment of how it works.

Phntm888, IF you have the relevant crafting feats at level 1, then you may make the assumption of having crafted any relevant gear that your crafting skills suggest.

Dave Herman and Xantrius, thanks for compiling the submissions!

Dylos, those seem relatively aboveboard and accomplish about what a Synthesist Summoner can achieve, so I will allow those. If you go the Silver Dragon route, I have a suggestion for your background that may prove interesting and would have some interesting repercussions for the campaign, if you so wish.

Monkeygod, I am intrigued that a caster would select the Path of the Stranger. Do tell what the concept is!

Mithridites, you may select one of the traits from the table under Aasimar in exchange for Daylight.

The Indestructible, what do you mean?

Half-Elf Favored Class Bonuses DO apply in this case, given their Multitalented ability's wording.

As for the Mythos campaign, it would be 4 players.

Shi'vatha, you may submit that character for perusal, once you get him updated to the proper guidelines, of course.

Recruitment will be open for a week past the OP and I will select six PCs. "Lo, on the seventh day, the Hammer of Heaven shall fall upon those assembled, judging each by their worth. From the multitude, six shall arise and be placed upon destiny's road, the Path of the Righteous."

I am well acquainted with Dreamscarred Press's Psionics and Path of War books. I will allow any of those. "The meditations of the just, of the honed mind and the mystic blade, have been made whole in righteousness."

Tieflings are allowed, obviously. "How wicked are ye who judgeth a man by the countenance of his face and not by the countenance of his soul! Art thou wiser than the gods themselves, that thou knowest their servants better than they? Nay child, thou art not, therefore open thine eyes to the radiance of the soul, for all flesh fails and is discarded like a withered husk, but the soul endureth forever.

Oath Against Fiends IS allowed. It is pretty powerful, all things considered, but it only works against fiends. Not all enemies will be fiends, so it is nowhere near overpowered. Plus, like the Paladin Code, it is flexible enough to allow for common sense, so I do not view it as being incompatible, particularly if you worship one of the more merciful deities or intend to 'keep X in mind for later'. As long as you keep your greater goal in mind of stopping the massive portal to the Abyss and repelling the hordes of the Abyss and keep that in mind as you make decisions, I do not think that it will be an issue. "Therefore children remember, though you have been given a multitude of gifts, the greatest gift that any man will receive is the gift of wisdom. Squander not wisdom by clinging to words, fulfilling the letter of your oaths at the expense of the spirit of the oath itself. Shrewdness is the father of the wise, forbearance the mother. Use the wisdom granted you by the gods and ye shall prosper in all things."

GM_Rednal ONLY!:
Since you have experience with the campaign, being a fellow GM of WotR, I can address the issues more frankly with you.

The code only forces them to kill or banish fiends that they KNOW it is in their power to do so. The one grossly overpowered foe, omitted here due to people sneaking a peek at spoilers, is well beyond said PC power. And, as with a Paladin Code, Lawful Stupid is never a requirement, as I will not force PCs to fall or be in violation of their code in the name of accomplishing their code in a much greater way by mutual cooperation. I am sure that the character would bristle strongly against having to work with such unsavory company, but if they keep their ultimate goals in mind, that being to stop the, you know, GIANT PORTAL TO THE ABYSS, I am sure things will work out for the best.

As for the other 'sticky situation', I will make it clear that the change is occurring, visually speaking. This way, it will give the PC pause and make them consider speaking first.

Phntm888, are they on the SRD?

Xzaral, that is fine, just don't expect much in the way of tech. Guns are about as far as I am willing to go in this game and they will be staggeringly rare, if included at all. I want to preserve the Diablo 3 feel of the AP.

Adsapiens, yes, you may go into prestige classes once you qualify. I have no issues with this. As for how gestalt rules work with prestige classes, just use levels from one side of the gestalt whenever you want levels in prestige classes. It's quite simple, no?

Aqua-Thor, are you referring to the old Occultist or the revamped one from the kickstarter? If the former, then yes. If the latter, I will need to see the material, due to not having the backers-only playtest copy.

Edward Sobel, I love that YouTube link! It reminds me of a d20 Modern character that I had made once.

Korina, that character looks amazing! It appeals to my sense of Mythos Otaku-ism (Not the original Japanese meaning of Otaku, the meaning that it has taken among the nerd communities in America, meaning extreme fanboy!). I wonder though... would you be interested in placing her in a custom campaign that I am making that combines some elements of Carrion Crown, Bloodborne, and several other awesome things, all placed together into a Mythos campaign set in Ustalav? Either way, I love the character and she has a pretty strong chance of getting in either campaign.

Malzii, I am fine with either the original or Unchained Summoner. I actually did not have as many issues with the old Summoner, especially since it was a class that required several levels to be useful, whereas Leadership gave almost the equivalent of an Eidolon (Or better, if your cohort is a full caster!) for the price of a single feat.

Dave Herman, what do you mean by how am I handling Half-Elven Favored Class Bonuses? And interesting Alchemist! Reminds me of my earlier days in college, minus the plagiarism... and the bits about demonology and getting sent to stop an apocalyptic threat to the world of course!

Lord Manticore, considering that I will be using Mythic versions of the demons in the campaign, due to loving their signature abilities, I would hardly find it fair denying Mythic options from the same publisher. The options are awesome anyway. Consider the Mythic options from Legendary Games available for your use!
As for Skill Unlocks and Scale-able Items, are they on the SRD? I do not have Pathfinder Unchained, unfortunately. :/

The Indescribable, yes you may. There was also a cool CG Paladin alternate class from 3.X that I have laying around in one of the books on my 8 foot tall shelf of 3.X/Pathfinder books. Would you like to to look for it?

Galahad0430, yes, Rite Publishing's 'In the Company of...' books are allowed. The ones that come to mind so far that I will allow are the Taurians, the Stonewardens, and whatever the undead guys are called. If you go the route of Taurian, I have an interesting story hook for you to exploit.

Gavmania, I have seen the Unchained Monk on the SRD and it is allowed.

Sabrina, I no longer have any issues in real life. The person in question that was diagnosed with cancer has responded well and is almost completely cancer free now, thankfully. That said, feel free to hold back a bit, as I can understand your trepidation.

Just get the character built and I will type up a sample guideline for you to follow. Sound good?

The Indescribable, you mean THIS? If so, it is approved.

Sounds good! Going for a holy chorus type bard, an inspiring commander, or something else entirely?

Gestalt Wrath of the Righteous recruitment is up!

Now, those of you that I will be slotting as PCs, expect a message in your inbox soon!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Welcome one and all to the gestalt Wrath of the Righteous recruitment thread! It feels good to be back on these boards! Now, since I presume that everyone has read the Wrath of the Righteous Player's Guide, let me get straight to the point of character creation and what I expect from potential PCs!

Character Creation

Starting Level: Gestalt 1

Gestalt rules, for those not well-versed in them:
There are a few things that gestalt does, each of which are quite easy to figure out.

1. You compare the HD, skill points, BAB, and saves of each class and gain the better of them.

2. You gain each class's weapon proficiency and class skill lists.

3. You gain ALL of the abilities of each class, including spells.

4. Things like Sneak Attack damage can stack, if gained from multiple classes, but things like Uncanny Dodge do not, for obvious reasons. If you do not know whether something would stack or not, please ask.

5. Power Point pools from multiple classes combine into a single PP pool.

6. If you choose two classes from Path of War, you cannot assume 2 stances, one from each class.

7. Unlike rule #5, spell levels are not part of a pool, unless the classes specifically have some sort of 'mana system' that I just have not seen outside of consoles. If you know of classes that have these and you want to play them, please state as much here on the thread.

Races: Any official Paizo races that live on Golarion are allowed for use. Do note, however, that criteria excludes Lashunta and other races which are not found on Golarion itself (One small community in an AP being the sole exception!). Please note that if you select a race that is listed in the Advanced Race Guide as being above 20 Racial Points, such as a Noble Drow or a Svirfneblin, then your first level of gestalt will only be one class, to accommodate for your increased power over the other PCs.

Classes: Any official Paizo classes and archetypes for those said classes are allowed, as may be third party material (Which will need to be approved by me before it may be used of course!), though consider yourself forewarned that advanced technology is not something that would fit the flavor of the campaign. Gunslingers are about as far as I will allow the tech to go in this campaign, despite loving tech in other campaigns.

HP: Max per HS, same as most allow.

Ability Scores: We will be using the ever popular point buy system, 22 points, and will be using the M.A.D.-friendly 1-1 purchase from base of 10 method (Each ability score increase costs a single point, so to get a score of 18, one has to invest 8 points into that score, assuming there are no racial penalties. Make sense?). After racial modifiers, no score can be above 18+racial bonus or below 10-racial penalty.

Skill Points: +1 per level.

Feats: You get a Bonus Feat at 1st level!

Traits: 1 Trait + 1 Campaign Trait, with the option for an additional Trait if you take a Drawback. If none of the Campaign Traits fit you, then send a message to my alias and we can work something out.

Starting Gold: You start with 800 GP.

The Seven Things That I Expect From You

1. Play nice with the other PCs.

2. Don't rules lawyer.

3. No metagaming.

4. Try to keep up with 1+ posts per day. If something goes wrong in your life, just post on the thread or send a message to my alias explaining why you can't post.

5. No nonsense like Body Bludgeon + Limitless Range.

6. Have some roleplay to go with your rollplay.

7.Be respectful

So, all that said, post those characters people!
