Male Human Pie Level 20

It is with a heavy heart, that I need to inform all my games I need to step away from the pathfinder universe. Need to focus on getting a job and some other things. I know this leaves each of you in a lurch but I need to buckle down some things and I just can't put any energy into rp games. I wish much success for all of you.

@galahad

Thanks.

I do appreciate the whole level 1 rebuild before level 2. Sometimes I like to see if a character concept works. I've not had a huge issue with surviving level 1*, is that a huge deal for most people?

*My only death in PFS was the last fight before the end of the third scenario, but a greataxe crit is not gonna get survived by most folks.

Liberty's Edge

@galahad, I like that cleric, why not use longbow instead of javelin, being a cleric of Erastil?

I've wanted a barbarian for a while, just to play, so I might try something like bob.

Liberty's Edge

So a few times I've tried to make a character as a crossbow wielding ranged attacker and always got frustrated with the slower capability. Bolt Ace is promising, I just wished they'd stripped the rest of the gun stuff off of it.

That said, I don't think I want to deal with the whole Double crossbow thing. Is going light/heavy crossbow still viable? Strip out the EWP and the build the same? Or does Ranger still do it better?

Am I reading this right, I still get a gun at creation for the Bolt Ace, which I can the sell?

Also, Never Stop Shooting seems to apply to firearms only?

This! My first GM showed me this trick, it's also a great thing for when something is piercing resistant. Sure you can pick up blunt arrows, but if you have higher strength and no magic bow, this would be your ranged weapon.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the build Duncan, looks pretty cool. Any reason to keep Charisma at 10 and not dump it?

Liberty's Edge

I voted for hunter. Really like the feel of the class, just wondering how it plays. Played with a warpriest a few times during playtest and it looks pretty good.

Liberty's Edge

I bought a couple of GMs running AP on here one of the pdfs for each. That saves them 17-18 bucks as a thank you for running the AP.

I bought my tabletop GM a Chessex Battle Mat and I was a kickstarter for Deep Magic, he's getting my hardcopy of the book, while I keep my pdf.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I approve the message of Pie.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I was looking at the two weapon fighter archetype, but does a shield count as a weapon?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I am thinking straight up fighter. Just play the class vanilla. Now, do I go shield/sword or 2hander...decisions.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

Yeah I asked Feral and he said swashbuckler is broken, so I said I'll play that.

I am thinking inquisitor...maybe huntsman archetype? Or is that just a weak ranger?

I once wanted to play a magus, but perhaps that's a bit advanced for me now. The basic two handed barbarian seems like it might be fun.

That bolt ace looks pretty cool. Some of the coolness of the gunslinger without the pistol?

If we take 3 months per level, I think Feral may hunt us all down. If we have spellcasting covered I don't mind going martial. It's not something I've played, well except for ranged...I do have a PFS fighter done, but I got a chronicle attached to his name (8th level?) but my paladin's number. I know I am being high maintenance here.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new classes? Balanced or broken or something else? Slayer, Hunter and Bloodrager might be interesting.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I don't have a character yet. Anyone else know what they are playing?

This is Peperic/Jametor/Ensu/whomever you know..

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I have 2 options.

Freshly made level 1. OR a pregen, because I killed off my level 2 Horc and my other level 2 is in a game.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

Howdy.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

Just tell me which level to grab. Apparently, HL doesn't have the official ones setup.

Let's assume I am picking paladin.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

I haven't decided on anyone..all the way. I am interested in the paladin, yes. Are we just going to mob the badguys?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Pie Level 20

Apparently, I've been strong armed..I mean recruited. Sadly, my only PFS character that's not dead is level 2 and in another scenario. So, pregen it is. Slackadon won't help me figure out which class..so..yeah. Help

Liberty's Edge

I suspect this is how it works:

4 players, each roll 4d6, 7 times, drop lowest.

so you might have the following arrays

17,15,12,13,9,10
13,12,11,13,7,8
18,12,18,12,18,10
15,14,13,12,14,10

Or something, whatever.

Each player then votes on which array they think is best. In my example there might be one really good one that you think everyone will vote on. So the votes are tallied and the winning array is the one everyone uses.

Liberty's Edge

I tried to GM for my friends who are used to a roll system. They complained that the 25pt buy was too limiting.

Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

Liberty's Edge

Buy the book for him. Gift it to him and allow him an opportunity to look through it at his pace. Might take a bit, but worth the shot?

Liberty's Edge

@chainsawsam

That third miniature is the baddest of the baddest miniatures I've seen.

Liberty's Edge

Had my PFS inquisitor get killed in the last fight of the 3 scenario at level 1...yes, a couple more rounds and he would have been leveling. I read through your cavalier guide Tark and almost pulled the trigger on building one to play next. I would have been behind the others in the group so I used my ranger instead.

I'll admit I really like the class, really want to play one. I can't decide to go small or medium and find the right place for my choice. In the PFS one I was going to go Halfling and outrider and all that.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

One of my friends just saw the bit about the Mountain Druid and just squeed. Yes, he's been RPing one, now he has some more lore and some actual spells and such to continue. You just made a few players very happy in my little world.

Also...Fire!

Also, Also..Why did you link that KS Neil Spicer...you now owe me money.

Liberty's Edge

My copy of the Deep Magic book showed up in the mail today! Are we going to get the pdf copies like we did the guide to magic? I was actually surprised to get the Deep Magic book so soon, I thought the last update said end of April. My group is going to be so glad it is hear, because we can start adding the book as an accepted resource!

So I just opened the book and scanned through it for a few minutes. Very Very nice!! 374 pages of awesome (Yes I know it's actually 375, but the OGL is yeah)

I am sure everyone will be happy to devour the information in the book. I actually upped my pledge so I could get a hard copy and gift it to my DM, I prefer my stuff in pdf format.

Since this kickstarter I've backed a couple more. Really glad to help folks who deliver quality stuff. I entered the Pathfinder world too late to get in the last KS for you guys.

Liberty's Edge

Can't wait for my copy of Deep Magic!

Liberty's Edge

As others, my biggest issue is the huge load times. The new text isn't horrible, all the other changes are ok, won't check a lot since it's just really hard to move around.

Using Firefox 17.1 at work and latest version of Chrome at home.

Liberty's Edge

I am guessing the pdf of these books will still be available?

Liberty's Edge

Well switch-hitter, follow the build advice in the Ranger guide.

I love the pure archer ranger, just because if I want to play melee, i'll play fighter/barb/paladin. So that makes me a bit biased. Although, with a 25 point buy you probably can go switch hitter. Use your ranger combat feats to make your archery better and all the rest of your feats to strengthen you in melee.

I'll have to find my plan for my archery ranger.

Liberty's Edge

Goblins are small, so the arrows are going to be small. Don't get into the size war, it sucks. But still...

Liberty's Edge

It's not too much of a guess, actually. I've got a couple rangers, so I have the feats planned out and such, I even looked up my spreadsheet to verify the feats possible.

Ranger could make her own, if she's got the profession for it, or some ranks in craft bow..

I think the idea of them suffering for one fight might be a good idea. Pretty much all your characters should want a handy haversack and the ranged folks would want the quiver.

Fly is 3rd level Wizard spell, so..(looks it up)so 5th to cast. Sorc may be one level behind.

Liberty's Edge

@Blackbot Dwarf you say? For the Horde!!--actually he is a dwarf now, if I was playing.

You don't just ram the arrows into the haversack, you put them quiver and all into the haversack, maybe wrapped in some cloth if you want to be all micromanaging....

I understand loot, but I think either the ranger isn't prioritizing their purchases correctly or you aren't close to the wealth for 6, which I understand, I am playing a low wealth game with my friends, so that does kinda hurt. An archery ranger should be looking at the bow first, which she has, the probably looking for that quiver. It's not super expensive. But firing multiple arrows each round is going to chew through them, pretty quick.

Oh and one other thing. There is an option for durable arrows, which aren't destroyed by normal use. They are more expensive, but perhaps worth it? And yeah you could rule that the javelin spot holds more arrows, perhaps they have to be moved from that spot to the arrow side, standard action...full round probably.

Doing the math. 6th level 2 attacks per full round, plus potentially Rapid Shot and Manyshot. You are looking at possibly 4 or 5 arrows in the air each round? Wow, 60 arrows isn't going to last long. Gonna need a bigger boat....or quiver.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

How does a level 6 ranger not have an efficient quiver filled with all sorts of arrows and handy haversack with a few more, just in case? At level 1, my ranger is carrying 40 arrows and he's still in Sandpoint.

I guess my days in WOW, back when you had to buy ammo taught me that you can never have too many arrows. Running out of ammo while in Black Temple is bad...bad. Especially, when you are the kiter. Also, all of you get off my lawn.

Also, the paladin has to fall.

sorry, been reading a lot of paladin threads lately.

One of my favorite poetic definitions of justice is "vengeance tempered with mercy". Technically, justice is concerned with guilt not wickedness, and restitution rather than retribution. There's a reason that the US Constitution (among others) includes a prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment.

Justice can't become an excuse for sadism. I'd say a paladin that walks around with Detect Evil up and slaughters everyone who detects as evil is just another flavor of murder hobo.

Be careful pulling in the Constitution and the other such documents, as the bill of rights bans slavery and debtors prison, among other things, along with cruel and unusual punishment. Yet, many states still allow the death penalty.

We aren't dealing with the guy who murders someone in a fit of "passion" or maybe someone who even kills someone because they wronged him (even if premeditated), we are dealing with the evil, vile creatures who aren't going to change, typically. When the pattern of your behavior is to kill 10s or 100s, and you come face to face with a paladin..you are probably going to peg the detect evil meter.

Now, I am not saying the paladin and his friends should go around murdering everyone who pops detect evil, because we all know the flaws in the detect evil process.

In some ways, while I love the paladin, I think the inquisitor is probably the better class for folks who want to be the righteous arm of their deity.

By the way, Gwen, I have agreed with most of your points in this thread, just wanted to caution everyone from trying to force Golarion into the US or other "modern" places.

not that kinda bar, lass.

and not the bar of soap kind, we bathe regular twice a year.

the bar we are talking about is the kinda bar that serves the nectar of the gods, ale and the like.

mmmm, ale.

That reminds me. I'll be back later.

Then it could be Hold me closer Tiny necromancer.

Yeah I know it doesn't "fit" the syllables...

Liberty's Edge

I think his question is not what reader to use for pdf, but how to get the rules in a pdf format without buying them all over again (he has the books). Is that correct?

Liberty's Edge

Erastil uses a longbow, so that might work.

Number next, which I believe is 39. Item is called one thing in the title and first paragraph but by second or third paragraph is called something else.

40. Has places for multiple DC, by round, effect etc.

Liberty's Edge

Except he asked for no spoilers because he wanted to send his players to this thread.

Liberty's Edge

My group of RL friends and I are in a guild called Vengance Falls. We started the group and a couple of the people had backstories that the GM intertwined, we've spent the last few months hunting down one of the BBEG to bring our Vengeance on.

The falls part was due to a old joke about an old GM of mine who used to get us to a stopping part by saying "darkness falls" even if the day had been a short one. Our current GM made a joke about rocks fall everyone dies once...and the whole something falls was born.
