Physical Description
Faulkner is a halfling with brown hair, brown eyes, short sideburns and slightly gaunt features. He is thin, wears scruffy brown clothes, a dark green scarf, and the top of a chain shirt can be seen out of the collar of his jacket. He wields an old rapier and a considerably newer-looking kukri, as well as a shabby bow. When more casually dressed, and not under scrutiny from law-obsessed types, he usually bares his right shoulder, which features a reasonably sized tattoo of an eye with a red, bloodshot pupil, not a symbol any normal person would recognize anymore, but one that clearly means a lot to him.
Personality
Faulkner is a sly and deceitful halfling, who knows how to get by in dangerous and harsh conditions. He's seen a lot, and knows not to trust anything based on shallow appearances. He never had much chance to get a proper education, but makes up for it through practical knowledge and skill. He has a certain roguish guile that can help him slip through situations unscathed. Still, though, he has seen a lot, and can't help but be rather serious and practical, most of the time.
He hates the wealthy, and the whole idea of money. He believes that if he helps the poor regain what is stolen from them all their lives by the rich, the world will be a better place. He dislikes being constrained, and knows that there are many things he could do that are illegal according to those in power, but only make things better for more people.
History
Faulkner lived much of his youth as an orphan in a major human city. He never knew his parents, and grew up among a small gang of cutthroats and criminals who abhorred society in general, calling themselves the "Eyes Below". Despite feeling kinship to them, treating them as his only family, he was, and remained, wide-eyed and somewhat idealistic. He stayed with them for some time, and learned many less reputable skills from them. But they were later discovered and taken by the law, and he narrowly escaped discovery himself. From both his time among them, and their treatment by those in power, he began to resent the rich and powerful. He was on the streets after that, and gambled what little he had frequently, hoping for some kind of a break that would let him out of his rut. That break never came, so he ended up forcing it into existence, by cheating against some bigger fish, who he thought deserved it anyway. He finally had enough money to get himself out of poverty, and to do things other than striving to just get by. He took the opportunity to begin travelling, and offering his assistance to the less-fortunate, those oppressed by the rich and powerful. He would lend his service to steal, fight, or otherwise knock those who held themselves above the poor down a notch. Despite his upbringing, and almost feeling it justified, given what little he'd been given in life, he believes that offering his service wholesale, to lend his sword arm to the highest bidder, would feel wrong, so he doesn't, and so makes quite little from his pursuits himself. It makes him happy, anyway, to know he helps others like him.
