#5-08: The Confirmation

Farris' ITS

Boons:
Confirmed Field Agent: Having successfully completed and documented your Confirmation, one of the Three Masters (Kreighton Shane, Master of Scrolls) has formally recognised you as a field agent and given you a wayfinder engraved with your name and the date of his graduation - 29 Kuthona 4713. If this is the first time you have received this boon for any of your characters (it is), you receive this wayfinder for free; otherwise, you may acquire it by spending 1 Prestige Point. Furthermore, if you assign this Chronicle sheet to a character whose starting XP is 0 (it is), you reduce the Prestige Point cost of any wayfinder enhancement vanities you purchase to modify this wayfinder by 1 (minimum 1).

Explore, Report, Cooperate: You have an excellent sense of what makes an exemplary Pathfinder. As a free or immediate action, you may consider whether a particular action you name--such as subduing but not killing an enemy, befriending an NPC, or recovering a particular item--would help realise the goals of the Pathfinder Society. The GM then informs you whether the action's impact would be positive (contributes to meeting a secondary success condition for the scenario), negative (opposes the secondary success condition), or negligible (neither contributes to nor opposes the secondary success condition). If none of these three options accurately reflects the action's impact on the PC's fulfilment of the secondary success conditions, the GM may respond with a phrase of five words or less. Once you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.

Friend of Janira Gavix: The field agent who oversaw your Confirmation is appreciative of your bravery and camaraderie in the face of danger. She helps you perform research, granding you a +1 bonus on Knowledge checks attempted while you are in the Grand Lodge.

Appearance:
Farris maintains a clean and well-dressed appearance, with his dark hair and beard always kept tidily groomed and combed back. His skin is a dull greenish tint, while his eyes are a brilliant and bright amber, not unlike the setting sun. His back is decorated with a large and detailed tattoo depicting Sarenrae's ankh, and he has a tendency to go shirtless when not armoured so that he may show it off. Usually, though, he wears gold-rimmed breastplate, always shined to perfection. Farris is often seen wearing flowing cleric's vestments in the holy colours of the church of Sarenrae (white with red and gold highlights). He also always carries a scimitar - a gift from his mother upon his acceptance into the Pathfinder Society - which features Celestial engravings of a line from The Birth of Light and Truth.

Background:
Catalina Imrian, Farris' mother, was once a Pathfinder of some renown. A devout priestess of Sarenrae, she was instrumental in combatting some of the worst and most wicked of enemies the Pathfinders faced. Catalina was also notable for her insistence on sparing those that ever surrendered, and working hard to convince those that would not to repent their evil ways. On one mission to the Hold of Belkzen, she offered surrender and repentance to every rampaging orc she came across—but only one, a young orc by the name of Zahir, was willing to do so. He was a runt of the pack, and had experienced much in the way of pain in his young life, so turning towards the Dawnflower's light seemed... nice. Certainly much better than the life of torment he would live as a weakling orc in a tribe half-decimated by the passing adventurers.

Zahir joined Catalina on the rest of her adventure, providing her and the other field officers with her guidance through the precarious territory of the Hold of Belkzen. He would later return with her to Absalom, where, through Catalina's good graces and her pulling of a few strings here and there, he was allowed to become a probationary member of the Society himself. The few years of travel taught Zahir much about human society—and in particular, how to control the feral temper and bestial urges within himself. With Catalina at his side every step of the way, Zahir slowly yet surely managed to overcome the worst of his desires—and as he did so, he found himself falling in love with the priestess. She, too, saw the beauty in his spirit, and the two were soon wed.

Of course—they both realised their relationship was not exactly the most "acceptable" of ones, so they made the decision to retire to a small farmstead in Nirmathas. There, though Zahir was rarely trusted in their trips to town, they were able to live a life of relative freedom and peace. Within a couple of years they had given birth to Farris, and raised him in their simple and devout ways. The half-orc knew nothing but love and acceptance from his family, and was always confused at the discrimination he faced from other individuals; as he grew older he tried his best to convince others of his and his father's goodliness, although often with little success.

His parents' tales of the Pathfinder Society (and some connections of theirs in the Silver Crusade) would convince Farris to try the adventuring lifestyle for himself. He wished to spread the word of his Goddess, to redeem the fallen and the lost, much as his mother had once done, and the Society was as good a vehicle for that desire as any. He wished to prove to the world as a whole that the misfits such as himself were not to be feared, and to fight against discrimination wherever he found it. He hoped to return only with the knowledge that some would not hate his father only for the circumstances of his birth; or better yet, convert all of the orcish peoples to the path of the light.
