Faratim comes from a tribe of grippli that used to be slaves to the Chelaxian colonists of Sargava and the Mwangi Expanse. Thanks to the conflict between the colonists and thier “subjects,” Faratim’s tribe was free before he was ever born.

Faratim grew up as a hunter gatherer. He loved to hunt and fish and sneak up on his fellow grippli. Once, when he was hiding, he heard someone coming through the jungle. It wasn’t his friend that he found when he leapt from the foliage, however, but a human! Faratim immediately knocked an arrow, ready to fight.

But the human did not wish to fight. He was there to learn about the inhabitants of the Mwangi Expanse. The human, Dorian was his name, and Faratim soon became friends. Faratim taught Dorian about the jungle, and Dorian taught Faratim how to make maps and introduced him to a wonderful food called “cheese.” Dorian liked his cheese with a glass of wine, but Faratim only cared for the cheese. The friendship was somewhat short-lived, however, as Dorian had to return home. Faratim has been known to buy cheese from traders and keep some in his belt pouch ever since.

Upon learning of Faratim’s new found skill with maps, his tribe has tasked him with mapping the Expanse, specifically marking human colonies. So it was that Faratim sought passage to Sargave and boarded the Jenivere. Familiar with the dangers of the jingle, he hopes to find a companion or two along the way, hoping to learn more of other peoples, and be introduced to other exciting foods as he works to complete his quest.
