Appearance
In human form, Faolan appears to be a young man with red hair, tanned skin, and amber eyes. In kitsune form he looks like a humanoid fox with red fur with white highlights and amber eyes. In either form he is both agile and strong.

Background

How, exactly, a young kitsune kit ended up alone in the middle of the Penprie Forest is almost as much of a mystery as how he managed to be adopted by a family of foxes, not just for a year, but for long enough to grow to be a young man. However it happened, when Suibhne, a druid of the forest, stumbled across him, he was virtually a wild animal himself. Somehow Suibhne managed to convince the young kitsune that he was a friend, and took him in.

It took a while to teach the kit to talk, and longer still to teach him to act like a person instead of an animal. Suibhne named him Faolan, and taught him to reverence nature--something that came naturally to the kitsune.

Faolan proved a clever and eager pupil, even if he never quite fully came to understand the finer points of humanoid society. Mostly he roamed the wilds with his teacher, learning the names and behaviors of the plants and animals that lived there. Sometimes he would watch animals in perfect stillness for hours... especially birds, for he loved the dream of flight. He grew to be strong and agile, an able hunter and knowledgeable woodsfox.

Things took a turn for the strange when he grew a second tail. Without knowledge of kitsune, both Faolan and Suibhne reacted with shock when Faolan woke one morning with a another tail, and discovered his new magical powers. Not long after, while again studying an owl, he had another bizarre experience. For a moment, he blacked out... then saw himself, as if from the owl's eyes.

When the moment passed, Faolan awoke on the ground. Reaching a hand to his head he discovered to his shock that he now, in place of hands, had talons like the owl. In his shock he subconsciously change them back. Finding he could switch back and forth at will, he eagerly showed the ability to Suibhne, who rapidly concluded his pupil had been chosen by nature in some fashion.

Feeling he had taught the young kitsune all he could now, and suspecting his pupil had some greater destiny to fulfill, Suibhne sent Faolan to Endholm to seek out other travelers and learn from them. For his part, Faolan was eager to see new sights and creatures, and to discover for himself what his strange powers meant.

Personality
Faolan is friendly, curious, and generally excited about life. He also has almost no concept of manners, personal space, and not interrupting people.
