About Fane The Scarred

Background:
At an early age, Fane was forced to deal with the harsh realities of life in a big city alone. Born to Varisian parents that settled in Korvosa, his early childhood was one of happiness until that fated day.

When Fane was around 9 years old, Hellknights came in the night and took his parents away. He was told they were caught freeing slaves and he was placed in an orphanage. This taught young Fane a very valuable lesson and one he lives by today, laws are corrupt and only people matter. However it was a lesson he would forget for a while …

Life in the orphanage was a change from his free spirited life style of before. Within the year he had run away and began his life on the streets. It didn't take long before he was cold, hungry, and alone. Help came in the form of what seemed to be a kindly old man that offered to take him in and feed him. There were lot of kids he helped and at first asked for nothing in return. But soon his hospitality dried up. He said it was time young Fain earned his keep.

Over the next few years, Fain learned the ways of underworld. How to scam, cheat, and steal. He wasn't just good at it, he enjoyed it. The thrill of getting over on the upper class and taking back what he felt they stole from him. Everything was going good until he was given orders to go help extort money from local shop owners in a run down part of town for “protection”. He refused and was taught another costly lesson, never cross Gaedren Lamm.

Gaedren tortured Fain and left him for dead on a garbage heap. His face is now scarred and hideous to look at and another life lesson was learned. Choose your friends wisely. After a year of recuperating and planing, Fain is ready to track Lamm down and put a stop to him, but he knows it won't be easy. He starts to ask around about Lamm but perhaps not quietly enough. Word soon got around and after several weeks a young sorcerer by the name of Eran came seeking him out. Then later came an ex-Korvosan Guard named Tolen. Fane come to learn both men had been crossed by Gaedren Lamm as baldly as he had been. Knowing there is strength in numbers, Fane agreed to help them and also feels that they deserves justice as much as he does..

Appearance:
The bell tolls Midnight. You look up and see the sign for the Hungry Goblin. This is where you are to meet with the man they call Fane the Scarred. Man? You chuckle at this thought. The information you received said Fane was a 17 year old Varisian with a bone to pick with Gaedren Lamm. Boy is more like it. But if he can deliver ….

You open the door and head inside and are greeted with the sounds and scents of a busy tap room. You wave away a barmaid as she approaches and head to the booth in the back where you arranged to meet Fane.

Sitting in the appointed booth is a short, wiry looking fellow in plain brown pants, brown shirt, and a black cloak with the hood pulled up obscuring his face. Clearly not the brash, young Varisian youth you were expecting.

“Beat it, Buddy. This is my booth,” you state expecting little resistance. The Man in the Booth instead reaches under the table and places a small parcel on the table.

“I have what you came for. Sit down, you are drawing attention.” The parcel! Can it be! After so long? You reach out to take it and in a flash there is a dagger in the table between your hand and it. “I said sit. You get this when I get my information,” says the Man in the Booth.

You sit down and for the first time get a look at the Man in the Booth. The hand holding the dagger is a soft, dusky color the nails well groomed. So he was Varisian after all. But there are no tattoos covering him like so many of his kind. Your eyes stray upwards over his very plain clothing to his face. His FACE! To say it was just scarred was an understatement! It looked like it had been melted! You find yourself starting to stare at this horrible visage when you glance at his eyes. Clear and golden eyes stare back at you. “I see you've noticed my parting gift from Gaedren Lamm. A fine piece of work it was too. He decided I should die as one of the faceless vagabonds of this great city we live in. He decided this most literately. To be honest, I didn't know he had it in him. The poeticness of it, not the viciousness. But I digress. Flask of acid in the face ruined it so no one would ever know who the corpse was. What he didn't plan on was me not being a corpse. The man will pay for what he did to me, and you may be just the man to help me

“So, you give me the info you have on Lamm and you get your precious parcel, savvy?”

As you leave the tavern, you see another Varisian man approach Fane, this one heavily tattooed ...
