BACKGROUND:

show:

Many moons ago, a woman lay on her deathbed - she were pregnant as fate would have it, and would in time pass on. However, the babe would not have such a dark fate, for his father were not dead as she. In fact, he was of great health, and would take grand care of his son for the days to come, or at least that's the short end of this tale.
His name was dubbed Ezekiel, though those close would only shorten in jest or close friendship (or in some cases, to scold!), born into the family of Tauranor. Here his father's blood of Cheliax dominated his features, whilst his mother's Varisian background would allow him comely looks as he matured from his crib into manhood - but it was along those years betwix boy and man that his father would discover the ability of practical magic - notably, a cat having appeared in his room for only a few minutes before vanishing from whence it came. There was no other possible entry other than a window, but it was a story off the ground - and there was little other explanation. Fearful for his child, he forbade him to even think of doing such things outside of home, and sometimes not even then.

During his early youth, his father, Sorumar, had expressed the interest of deities and faith, and the power of such things wielded by those with the will to use them. He mentioned much of Desna, and though he knew it was unliked by the populace around them, still he held services for him and his son every few days in reverence. This was soon to be passed into his son's mind, and with this came another follower of the goddess of dreams.

It was during his sixteenth year he discovered the recruitment within the Acadamae, looking for more who were willing and able to practice those magical arts. With many pleads over the timing of a week, Zeke forced his father into agreement, and within the next month he had successfully enrolled into that school and became an eager student.

Now here is where we take a small twist - another star that would cross into his life was formally trained by her parents, and was eager to become enforcement for the city, in protection of her homeland. Born in Old Korvosa, she had been given all she had asked, moreso than Ezekiel. Something had always felt missing in her life, though, and upon many occasions she insisted on serving within the Korvosan Guard. She enlisted within the Endrin Military Academy at the age of seventeen, not two years after Ezekiel had started his research.

Within the passing year, though, the fates would intertwine and set a tale further - these two young folk would cross paths on quite a few occasions - for while on patrol in the guard, the lady known as Valeria Alazario would sight our hero, Ezekiel - only he was quite the charmer, fooling around with many other, younger girls who wished his attentions. This grew envy and jealousy in her heart, for this was not the first she'd seen him - it was her secret that she had a fondness for him, and yet he never knew of her existence.
One night, she had planted a message to be delivered to his home - one of meeting at dusk. She made it out to be an important event, for she, too, was not unattractive, and was tired of poor suitors attempting to take her hand. When he had arrived, he had found a most prominent flower in a town of tyranny - and he felt as she did. For the entirety of the night, they spoke and shared stories, and at times touched hands as lovers would - and this would begin to occur more and more often.
Meanwhile, during his studies at the academy, he showed much apt for the ability to conjure creatures out of the aether, and keep them around for lengths longer than any of his peers. Soon he was sure he might succeed in passing into greatness, but first, he had but two tasks left to do. With his heart in his hand, he sought out Valeria and would meet her as they had planned - but she had sorrowful news. During his nineteenth year, she had been assigned a mission of perilous deeds outside of Korvosa, and as she weeped, he but put a ring in her hand, and curled it around the ring.

"Fear not, my fair one," he began, "for if you but clasp this as we hold it now, your thoughts shall but fill with me, and I shall think of you every morn that you are gone. With all fortunes, I shall await you here as we always meet, and pray for your safe return."

With this said, Ezekiel said his farewells, and returned to his studies. He became passionate, less obliged by the 'natural order' of things, and began to lose respect for taking her away from him so quickly, even though her service was required. Yet still, he had prayed and thought only of her as time went on, only to find a message nailed to his door.
It was this message that began the wheels of fate one last time - it had written a tale of heroism and tragedy, for none were to return from her expedition. With only his heart and his mind, and nothing but his arcanist teachings, he dropped out from the academy in his twenty-first year, for none could reconcile his loss.
Only months later, when he had commenced a normal summoning spell using a full circle in his home, he had conjured a phantom of her presence - this disturbed him in ways he could not fathom, but this image of her materialized for mere moments before vanishing. It took him the rest of that year to maintain this image for lengths of time, unknowing of what caused the phenomenon. He could only pray to Desna now, that the love in his dreams were still alive - and that this likeness of her was but a blessing. With his heart firmly straightened, he could only think of a single solution - to find his lover, his lost Valeria.

APPEARANCE:

show:

Ezekiel is a young man in his early twenties, standing at a stature of 5'9 and about 172 pounds. He's average-built, but he's been known for his charming looks. With short black hair, the citizen of Cheliax also has eyes that show a deep compassion for his arcana and life. He typically is dressed in a long red coat with black shoulder-guards, and a loose-fitting outfit of notable red-and-black dress shirt and ebon pants.

Valeria in life was a soldier, serving within the Korvosan Guard for her career. She wore light armor, and generally wore her helm only when needed. Her armor is black red detail. However, during some evenings, she may appear to be wearing a crimson gown. She looks about 5'7 and Zeke's not good with guessing a woman's weight, but she was beautiful, and just a tad generous in the right places. Nothing beyond the norm.
