Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

I just realized I didn't explain what I meant by that. The site was coming up very slowly. At a crawl, actually. Anyway, I'll be back again later today.

Seeing the prevalence of cats, Eurydes sneezes. "Damn furballs! The little things drive me insane!" An odd idea occurs to Eurydes and he quickly scans over the children for animal-related injuries. Weird question... do any of the children have unusual animal bites on them? A number of nasty curses transmit by bites.

Seeing that the questions in town aren't leading anywhere, Eurydes approaches the kids playing outside. Unfortunately, his attempt to be friendly by kneeling down to talk is misinterpreted. "It sounds like 'Auntie Gilgas' is a nice, if odd person," Eurydes says, "can you tell me more of her?" Diplomacy 1d20 + 6 = (2) 8

"Indeed, talking to the neighbors would likely give more honest answers," Eurydes says, "However, Vyk's point is valid as well. I was thinking along the same lines, actually. Children do tend to be more honest than adults, but we may have to talk through excuses from Gilga to get to them. Forewarned is forearmed." I'll join in with the skill checks in a bit. I'm not using my computer right now.

Feeling left out, and a little disappointed with the situation, Eurydes respectfully accepts the matter and resolves to his duty. This is the unit he was assigned to, and the mission of the orphanage must take precedence. He makes sure his gear is accounted for, then stands at the door. "I'm ready to move out," he says, his back turned to the group, "I'll take point." Spoiler:
Ready! I'm not taking this personally, by the way. I know this kind of antihero has risks associated with it, and I am trying to run him in as human a way possible. I hope I'll get a chance to show his compassionate side more soon. By the way, Kawrock, Tuich, Zander, and Vyk, your posts have been impeccable! :) Welcome to the gameplay board, Lady Adelaide!

Yes, Eurydes' numbers look correct there.

"She DOES teach that we should seek inner beauty and not judge those solely on their race or appearance." Amen to that. I hope I'll be able to steer Eurydes there, but if he does become good, it'll likely come from a serious shock. He does indeed habitually judge people on that basis. But at the same time he's puzzled that he's beginning to respect the tiefling a little bit. :) At least he thinks he does. It'll take time for me to get him to warm up to the party. As he doesn't seem to realize, an important part of being "human" means learning to trust others on the basis of their character and actions, not just being humane or loyal. It also makes you vulnerable in some ways, which I believe he's afraid to do. He doesn't have any true animosity towards Kawrock, though. I think he's looking to prove the humans are better than this "monster" companion. After all, he does have that "humans are superior" outlook going. It'll be a challenge for me to overcome that, but given the fact that this is an attitude problem he has, and not true villainy (yet), I think I might have fun emulating progress with this guy.

Don't worry too much about asking questions, I had to ask some to get started here myself. I'm new to PbP roleplaying, as you can see from this board. Feel free to join in on the gameplay boards!

"Yes, Kawrock, indeed we should get ready to leave. And if it wasn't clear before, I second the motion for the orphanage mission. It seems only right to put the welfare of children first." He nods toward Tuich. "There is ill-will towards my people too, some of it deserved. But we Taldans are also capable of great empathy towards others. And in these strange times, our convictions and our common humanity must be tested." He looks over at the tiefling and the tengu, then returns to the task at hand. But is there more than being human? I can't fathom it!

@Vyk Tyr You really gave Eurydes something to think about, since he agrees whole-heartedly with your comment about the welfare of children. He will definitely be examining his beliefs against his impression of you! (I think he's encountered tiefling villains as a member of the Taldan military, and because of his general attitude towards uncommon races, he is slow to trust others. I'm not sure where he's headed at the moment, but I like this challenge.)

Impressed (and somewhat shocked) at the tiefling's remark, Eurydes nods in agreement at the comment about the orphans. "Indeed, and where are my manners, I am Eurydes, a Cavalier of the Order of the Dragon."

A tall, heavily-built Taldan warrior watches the interchange between the Tengu and the cleric with amusement. "Odd company we keep. You can count on us, Ambrus, I assure you." He looks over at the tengu, then the cleric, as if assessing his allies. "A promising start."
