"Agreed, let's get going to the Pickled Imp," Eurydes agrees. "I could use a drink now."

Hearing the ruckus made from the cats as he searches, Eurydes observes them curiously. (Trying not to sneeze.)

Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Maybe...

I just realized I didn't explain what I meant by that. The site was coming up very slowly. At a crawl, actually. Anyway, I'll be back again later today.

That was just a test

Sorry about being absent yesterday, I had a Murphy's Law situation with the site. Now if I understand how the dice roller works now...

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Seeing the prevalence of cats, Eurydes sneezes. "Damn furballs! The little things drive me insane!"

An odd idea occurs to Eurydes and he quickly scans over the children for animal-related injuries.

Weird question... do any of the children have unusual animal bites on them? A number of nasty curses transmit by bites.
Perception 1d20 + 2 = (18) 20

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Seeing that the questions in town aren't leading anywhere, Eurydes approaches the kids playing outside. Unfortunately, his attempt to be friendly by kneeling down to talk is misinterpreted.

"It sounds like 'Auntie Gilgas' is a nice, if odd person," Eurydes says, "can you tell me more of her?"

Diplomacy 1d20 + 6 = (2) 8
Is this Sense Motive roll high enough to tell if the children are under compulsion?
Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 = (13) 15
Going over this, I couldn't think of a joke, so I decided to RP him in a way that his size works against him. The Sense Motive might reveal something, though.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

I was luckier with a Sense Motive roll. Given that this is a social scenario, I'd like to use this after the Diplomacy to get some insight into the affected NPC's character.

Sense Motive:
Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 = (13) 15

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Hehe... I'll have to come up with something suitably irresponsible for Eurydes to say when it comes time to use that roll. This should be amusing. :)

Spoiler:
Diplomacy 1d20+6 = (2) 8

Curses, foiled again. ^^

"Indeed, talking to the neighbors would likely give more honest answers," Eurydes says, "However, Vyk's point is valid as well. I was thinking along the same lines, actually. Children do tend to be more honest than adults, but we may have to talk through excuses from Gilga to get to them. Forewarned is forearmed."

I'll join in with the skill checks in a bit. I'm not using my computer right now.

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

"Indeed," Eurydes acknowledges, proudly displaying the Taldan insignia on his armor. "Someone has to keep an eye on you all." :)

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

"You make a good point," Eurydes whispers back, "I intend to stay though. This matter is personal for me. I know what it means to have a difficult childhood. I don't wish that on anyone."

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Feeling left out, and a little disappointed with the situation, Eurydes respectfully accepts the matter and resolves to his duty. This is the unit he was assigned to, and the mission of the orphanage must take precedence. He makes sure his gear is accounted for, then stands at the door.

"I'm ready to move out," he says, his back turned to the group, "I'll take point."

Spoiler:
Ready!

I'm not taking this personally, by the way. I know this kind of antihero has risks associated with it, and I am trying to run him in as human a way possible. I hope I'll get a chance to show his compassionate side more soon. By the way, Kawrock, Tuich, Zander, and Vyk, your posts have been impeccable! :) Welcome to the gameplay board, Lady Adelaide!

Oh, I know. Just conversation. :)

"She DOES teach that we should seek inner beauty and not judge those solely on their race or appearance."

Amen to that. I hope I'll be able to steer Eurydes there, but if he does become good, it'll likely come from a serious shock. He does indeed habitually judge people on that basis. But at the same time he's puzzled that he's beginning to respect the tiefling a little bit. :) At least he thinks he does. It'll take time for me to get him to warm up to the party. As he doesn't seem to realize, an important part of being "human" means learning to trust others on the basis of their character and actions, not just being humane or loyal. It also makes you vulnerable in some ways, which I believe he's afraid to do.

He doesn't have any true animosity towards Kawrock, though. I think he's looking to prove the humans are better than this "monster" companion. After all, he does have that "humans are superior" outlook going. It'll be a challenge for me to overcome that, but given the fact that this is an attitude problem he has, and not true villainy (yet), I think I might have fun emulating progress with this guy.

Hello all!

It looks like I'll be rounding things out as the baby of the group. I'm a 21-yr-old college student from Texas (studying Geology, with graduation on the horizon!). I got into tabletops a couple of years ago on the insistence of a good friend, and I am currently playing in an IRL Rise of the Runelords campaign as a bard. I'll try not to ask too many foolish questions, but please feel free to let me know if I make any egregious errors; I am completely new to posting here.

Thanks again for letting me join in!

Don't worry too much about asking questions, I had to ask some to get started here myself. I'm new to PbP roleplaying, as you can see from this board. Feel free to join in on the gameplay boards!

"Yes, Kawrock, indeed we should get ready to leave. And if it wasn't clear before, I second the motion for the orphanage mission. It seems only right to put the welfare of children first."

He nods toward Tuich. "There is ill-will towards my people too, some of it deserved. But we Taldans are also capable of great empathy towards others. And in these strange times, our convictions and our common humanity must be tested."

He looks over at the tiefling and the tengu, then returns to the task at hand. But is there more than being human? I can't fathom it!

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

@Vyk Tyr

You really gave Eurydes something to think about, since he agrees whole-heartedly with your comment about the welfare of children. He will definitely be examining his beliefs against his impression of you! (I think he's encountered tiefling villains as a member of the Taldan military, and because of his general attitude towards uncommon races, he is slow to trust others. I'm not sure where he's headed at the moment, but I like this challenge.)

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Impressed (and somewhat shocked) at the tiefling's remark, Eurydes nods in agreement at the comment about the orphans. "Indeed, and where are my manners, I am Eurydes, a Cavalier of the Order of the Dragon."
Studying the list further, he smiles inwardly at a thought of some day exploring the ruins in Osirion. Although that is a problem for another day. "It would be simplest to attend to this mission in the order presented, but the Temple of the Shining Star matter seems the more urgent, given that it relates to the welfare of children."

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Finally in. I was a little confused at first because I didn't understand the process of joining the group. Sorry if I came across as a bit of a newb. I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Sovereign Court

We're still looking for new recruits for our campaign. I look forward to meeting our new allies. :D

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

A tall, heavily-built Taldan warrior watches the interchange between the Tengu and the cleric with amusement. "Odd company we keep. You can count on us, Ambrus, I assure you." He looks over at the tengu, then the cleric, as if assessing his allies. "A promising start."
To Zander he says, "Although I also travel with a mount, you'll find me more capable than your former colleague."
To Kawrock he says, "I don't know much about 'tengu', I'm afraid. But if I'm going to be watching your back, we're on the right assignment."

Sovereign Court

Male Human (Taldan) Cavalier 1

Sorry guys, I just realized I posted on the wrong part.

Thanks anyway,

Alex ^^

Hi,

My name's Alex, I'm 37 and I've been a pen & paper style gamer for the last twenty years. I learned about Pathfinder a couple of years ago and recently got into it.
I designed the cavalier Eurydes with deliberate flaws in mind, ones that should make for some interesting tension at times. One thing he is not, though, is evil or malicious. He just has some misguided viewpoints and arrogance to go with them. Which could make things fun.
On the plus side, he also makes a loyal and trustworthy friend.

Alex :)
