Ensu reloads his crossbow, and goes to check what's keeping Tregar.

Ensu steps out of the room with his crossbow loaded, crosses in front of the goblin, and ends in front of Galstok, loosing a bolt into the rearmost goblin.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 4

While everyone is together,

Channel 1d6 ⇒ 4 heals anyone injured.

If anyone is more injured than that, he has time to use another.

"Nothing in Lyrie's room, looks like she's travelling light.
But there was this in the other."

Ensu holds a sheaf of papers, from the desk in Tsuto's room, which contain a sketch map of Sandpoint, with diagrams of goblin attack plans.
These are similar to those seen earlier, but the handwriting is more stressed, and the plans more desperate, relying on fewer goblins than before, only 40 in total, if all attacks took place simultaneously.

Efforts have been made to focus more arson attacks on the Rusty Dragon, which in previous plans had been a minor target.

The margins contain notes; "STOP RIPNUGGET KILLING GOBLINS!", "FIND DRUID.", "RUNE WELL. EFFECTS ON GOBLINS YET?". This last is written over the western sea cliffs.

At the back of the map are alleged evidence of Lonjiku Kaijitsu's involvement in smuggling, from the re-opened caves under the Glassworks, and draft blackmail letters, unsigned, but marked with a Tian pictogram. The most recent of these was half written, but has been torn through with a violent scrape of a pen, spattering the page with ink.

"There's still likely some good stuff in the other rooms. I'll check them if you like, while you decide?"

"Sounds like that belonged to poor old Father Tobyn."

If that prompts blank stares, he adds, "Before all this unpleasantness, I was enjoying the Swallowtail festival. I heard the new priest perform a eulogy to his late predecessor."

Ensu continues to fight defensively;

1d20 - 3 ⇒ (4) - 3 = 1

Ensu pulls out his dagger, and starts to fight defensively, calling for help.

"In here, two more!"

Attack 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (17) - 3 = 14

Ensu steps back, draws back his crossbow, and looses it.

The goblin tries to prevent this;

AoO 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

but his aim is slightly off.

The bolt flies out;

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

But he skids on some discarded worms, sending the bolt into one of the cages, pinning a whelp to the wall.

Before Galstok moves in, it's Ensu to go;...

Taking aim at one of the goblins at the foot of the stairs, Ensu lets loose with his crossbow.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 6

The goblin falls back on the steps, groaning.
Another goblin face is revealed behind him on the stairwell.

"They're not shouting about us....they're angry about...pickles?"

"I can't say I care for the beastly things, given how they'll grow up."

"Still, tossing them off a cliff isn't the kind of excitement I was expecting, when I set out in search of adventure."

"Which direction do you want to head first? I believe you may be going ahead, so I feel you should have a say."

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Ensu and Tregar share a worried look, as they both come to simultaneous conclusions.

"The Mother of Monsters?"

"What kind of glyphs is she working on? Did she say?"

"These meetings; were they religious gatherings? How much can you tell us about the proceedings?

Still here; looking back to see if this was in-character info. Yes, it was...page 20.

"Indeed there was. Father Tobyn's grave was the one that was opened.
Goblin footprints all around. It was fire that took him, a fire which burned down the old church. They only just finished building the new one, which was the focus of the festival we came for."

"I dunno, I rather like the idea of him being bait. Sort of an 'early warning bell' for the rest of us."

<the sound of a seagull is heard from the mouth of the outer cave, its cry swelling and dimming as it moves nearer then farther. As it rises on approach once more, it is suddenly cut off.>

In Goblin

"The goblins we caught, said this guy was the bugbear's wife. Said he couldn't get enough cock."

The man turns to the sound of the new voice, tries to keep his cool, but his momentary fierce expression, and flushed cheeks are easily seen by both Tregar and Ensu.

"I picked this up at the fair."

He hands you a fan, painted with images of swallowtail butterflies.

"That's because goblins don't use writing; they believe it steals the words from your head.
Which made it difficult to learn their language. The ancient sages had to capture them and keep them locked up, while they used telepathy on them, but they don't cope well with captivity. They'd bite through the bars, or even their own arms to escape."

"Did you know they have over 50 words for mucus?"

"Sure can. Like a boot stuck in mud."
