Can I get some advice here for legacy of fire. What should I choose for my favored enemies?

Gnoll seems so very specific?

Should I rather go for Guide instead of Favored Enemy.

I move to W31 and open the doors.

Sorry for double post again, I only realized now that I had a threat.

Confirm for 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 27
for an extra 1d10 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6

Emrin attacks the Golem:

Curve Blade:1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 19
Damage:1d10 + 2 + 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (4, 6, 3) + 2 = 23

Spikes:1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 31
Damage:1d6 + 1 + 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (1, 3, 4) + 2 = 14

Curve Blade:1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 30
Damage:1d10 + 2 + 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (5, 6, 6) + 2 = 27

Spikes:1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 25
Damage:1d6 + 1 + 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (3, 6, 2) + 2 = 18

Will save 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 4 = 18 vs Silent Image

Going out until later. Next I am going to tumble in behind the monster and attack it while flanking. Round after that I will probably full-round it. Don't forget the bonuses from bard!

Emrin straps his bow to his back and moves as close as he can get to the Large Monster (while aiming to get around it for flanking).

Reflex 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

Emrin picks up his bow and moves to the top left of O-18

"I lost one, I think he's hiding in the bushes"

Move to Q19 Bottom right (move action), drop bow (free action), draw Curve Blade(free action), attack fool (standard action).

Attack roll: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Confirm: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29

Normal damage:1d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
add 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 if crit confirms.

Reflex 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

I understand that, but doing it that way can be very wasteful, as normal combat is very dependant on what the guys before you manage to achieve. If the guy next to me finishes off my target before I get to attack then I'd need to know that before I full-round attack, or if he crit fails and smacks me instead, might change what I'd do. So having that knowledge is half of the tactics of combat. Saying we'll do actions out of order and then compiling the data afterwards will mean wasteful and poorly chosen actions.

If your actions will not effect the rest of the party, like shooting at range at a flying target, then I can see posting out of turn won't effect the other player's tactics too much, but that is more the exception than the norm.
Saving time by posting when you have time rather in the order you should is nice though, and PbP doesn't lend itself to being quick in the first place, but I still feel that everything will get seriously dumbed down if we remove tactics from combat. And if we are in a particularly tough fight, that co-ordination could mean life or death

Yes thats basically what I'm saying. I just wanted to let people know there isnt a hard rule about staying in turn. If you know your going to drink a health potion in your turn no matter what, then post it in advance. Most of the time though people will go in initiative.

Lien Adghar wrote:
I actually like the idea of sticking to initiative. If we don't follow a given order, then its the person who posts more often who has an advantage. Also, forgetting initiative will dumb down combat dramatically. I'd suggest that the person who had just gone has to IM or email or sms or something the next guy, "poking" him to take his turn. Maybe add a time limit to a turn if one guy never gets around to posting. Also, I'd rather have only one post per person per combat round and have them edit that post if need be, rather than just flooding posts out of order. but that is just a call towards neatness and not too important.

I dont think thats what he means. If initiative is:

Player A
Player B
Player C

Player A posts, then player C can post if he wants, but his actions only happen when its his initiative. He can say in his post "I do X, if Y and Z". That way once player B posts the round finishes much quicker and we dont have to wait to do our posts.

Obviously if its a very dangerous situation then Player C will wait for Player B to go to have better control or to use better tactics.

going to move at full speed and take a -5 penalty to stealth

Emrin, with bow drawn, moves stealthily to a concealed point at S18 (top left corner of square)

Stealth:1d20 + 17 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 17 - 5 = 16

I haven't seen the AA version, but the one in the campaign guide does all that you say.

Yes, but in the Adv Armory it apparently overrule the CS one, they only say it changes armor up one step. It doesnt give stats or anything. My dm says the old one is valid, so I just want to confirm if this is true. So the Armory one doesn't really serve any purpose and doesn't overrule anything.

Was the Kilt only added to the Armory so that it could be allowed for society play or what?

Ok that didnt work so I will tell the people to hold on a second longer while I try one of my scrolls :D

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 vs DC 21

And what I want to do on the final round before we move in, is cast shield on myself. This will be the roll for that.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 vs DC 20 (Wand)

Round 6: UMD Darkvision on Beaky again: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26 vs DC 21

Round 5:UMD Darkvision on Shivi: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 vs DC 21

DC 5 wisdom check to avoid mishap:

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10

Not sure if im doing this right but i think this is how its done :D

wth. i did this post and it didnt appear. maybe it timed out

UMD Darkvision on Beaky: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15

Round 4: UMD on beaky (Darkvision)

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

Round 3: UMD Scroll of Darkvision on Derrin

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

During these same four rounds I will do this:

Round 1: Drink potion of antitoxin
Round 2: Cast Darkvision from the scroll DC 21 on himself

UMD Darkvision Scroll: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Anyone?

Ah thanks, now I get it

And a wand of grease for 750gp!

Emrin jots a couple of things down on a parchment and hands it to Iadara,"These are the items I require for tomorrow", he also hands her a heavy bag,"and the gold of course".

"Does anyone else have any input before we retire for the night?"

I need to order,

100gp Antitoxin x 2
300gp Darkvision Scrolls x 2
2350gp +1 Armor Spikes
2500gp +1 Composite Longbow (+1 Str)
750gp Wand of Shield
100gp Shield Scrolls x 4
50gp Shield Scroll (CL2) x 1
300gp Invisibility Scrolls x 2

I need to sell,

250gp Composite Longbow +1 Str MW
175gp Armor Spikes, MW

Im going to d1a, but I will be supporting from range. I will be attacking from somewhere on the bottom right, where i have line of sight to both d1b and d1a, so that if they come around the western wall, we can flank them.

The chair Emrin was rocking in falls over backwards and so does he. After standing up, he dusts himself off and walks over to the map of the academy,"It's naive and optimistic to think that they wont reinforce the main entrance when combat breaks out. I agree with everything that has been said so far, but I would prefer to strike from the west once those combatants respond to the disturbance at the main entrance. I will try to find a hiding place to the south-west of the building, and once the enemy moves around the west wall to flank you I will strike.", he looks to the oracle,"A surge of light would be appreciated at this point Lien."

The ex-elf picks up his chair and sits down. He looks up to Eviana."This tactic will surely split the drow up once they are being attacked from two sides, but there is a small problem. I will probably be singled out when I attack from the south-west. Sister, if you could aid me with a potion of invisibility to escape after my ambush, it would greatly help secure this victory!"

Emrin snatches the cake, eyes it over, then looks up to the elf and smiles,"Why thank you, this might come in handy!", he says in their native tongue.

After finishing up at the merchants he rejoins the party for the all-important-cant-miss-it-for-the-world meeting.

"That damn bird!", he mumbles as he hands the bag off to the other elves,"so much trouble over a bit of bread, bah!". He turns back around and continues on towards the merchants.

Knowledge(Local): 1d20 ⇒ 6

Emrin grinds to a halt next to the bag and picks it up. He covertly has a look at what's inside, before the other elves arrive.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

Emrin sighs and falls into a sprint after the land-based bird,"Beeeeaaaakkky!", he shouts at the creature,"whatever's in that bag better be worth it!", and continues to pursue it...

After stepping into the tent,"Shivi, you are over-eager. I am sure Eviana will want to inform us tonight in person, and there is not much we can do now in any case", he turns to Shalelu ,"I need to speak to the merchants while I still have time, but if you can tell me where we must meet then I can find you there later"

I dont have the formulas on me now but to get the margin of error negligibly small your going to have to roll these dice lotsa thousands of times at least.

I am considering ordering an item to be crafted. The item casts tiny hut once per day. Its cost is 3x5x1800/5 = 5400gp. I will call it Robe of Architecture.

Let me know if the maths is right.

The only consideration I'd have about that is that I cannot really see the spell effect being appropriate for the body slot. Or any item slot on a character. Maybe add a x1.5 multiplier for out-of-slotness, or x2 to make it slotless?

Though the idea of having a robe that actually expands and forms the tiny hut sphere is kinda cool.

Edit: also note that the item would only be available after custom construction - i.e. at the next month's trade convention.

Yea i had the idea of an expanding robe. Thing is there are so many items that are just spell-in-a-can. I dont see why it needs to have a specific flavorful activation.

I agree with the time delay though, obviously it wont be available right away.

Anyway, I dont think I will be gettin this now.

Emrin turns around in his bed onto his other shoulder, and enters the conversation,"If I have to lie in this bed any longer I will go mad. Why is it that we cannot move and heal at the same time?", facing Variel,"I know your faith is strong enough to heal me on the trot, so let's stop idling and get to work."

He jumps out of his bed and walks over to a chest in the corner of the tent and collects his gear. On his way out he stabs Lien in the ribs with the hilt of his sword and quickly scurries out, attempting to avoid the consequences.

Given this its better to say the loot ratio is rather 0.14 that of a higher lvl PC

What you're doing is calculating the mechanically correct balanced amount. This isn't the intention: the job is to do things realistically for the game world. In the game world there is no distinction between PCs and NPCs as far as the story is concerned - if there is another party member, then he/she gets a share of the loot.

I'm limiting it to a 0.5 share rather than a full share with the in-game argument of "he's not as big a contributor to the success of the party". (Though one shouldn't argue that line too far, as it obviously cannot be applied to PCs.)

Of course, the character doesn't actually get to keep his full share - for balance reasons some of it is "puffed" into thin air. And as much as it hurts some PCs to see money go to "waste", it is the appropriate thing to do.

PS - since I have an idea of what we getting at the end of the pdf, I do *not* think the discussion on "not having enough" is relevant. We'll have plenty. So don't worry about making "your share" of loot bigger - we won't have wealth issues. All characters will have about the right wealth level.

We might not have wealth issues, but every little bit helps. You cant have too much gold. Especially since we dont have a crafter.

I dont see the cohort as a normal party member. He's no different to a mercenary that you hire to help you in your travels, except that he does it for free because he wants to learn from you or whatever.

The cohort gets XP out of thin air and doesnt affect us. Why cant he also just get money out of thin air that also doesnt affect us. Have the DM update him every once in a while. This will also simplify the maths. Since we wont have money issues you can also give your cohort some of your items/gold

:D

Nice to see you all here.

I am currently creating the next few aliases and maps I will need for the next two encounters. I will let you know when I am done.
But I am in no rush, I just want to make sure I am ready when you guys are and that you won't need to wait for me.
I will post the link for the PbP in this thread as soon as I have created it.
Would you like me to post the Map of Celwynvian here or in the other thread?

Thanks again for trying this out :)

It would be cool if we had only one page to visit for all the maps/links.

Cos you cant edit posts on here after a certain amount of time, so you cant edit the first post's links. Its also not practical to have links scaterred all through a thread.

Its so god damn late I probably have 100 mistakes on this thing.
