Summonees: Broken or awesome?

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is I agree with most of what the above posters are saying.

I find the summoner to be brokenly awesome because the are essentially 2 characters in one. The caster half which does all the summoning and buffing. And the eidolon, which is excellent in melee. The nice thing is, if the eidolon goes down, the summoner and just summon replacements (albeit, weaker ones). Basically, the strength of the class is it has, IMO, among the best survivability in the game.

Assuming you have the rule copied exactly ( I don't know where to find this to look at) than you should be able to use any Raise spell to restore the slain character.

"The dead victim can resist having her soul eaten by making a (DC 17) Fortitude save; success means she is still dead, but can be restored to life normally."
- This indicates to me that any Raise spell should be fine.

"If she fails this save, her soul is consumed by the soul eater.A victim slain in this manner cannot be returned to life with clone, raise dead, or reincarnation."
- This is what imposes the Death Effect, preventing lesser Raise effects from working.

"It specifically calls out Raise Dead and Reincarnate as not working when the soul is eaten but implies that these spells work when the victim makes the Fort save upon dying"
- Yes, I think you have it right here.

@ Halfling Barbarian
I think he means acrobatics check, not balance check. 3.x terms still tripping us up from time to time.

@ Maezer
The disk forms in air. It does not, as far as I can tell, rise up from the ground and pick up whatever was there. The archer would need to spend a move action to climb aboard, but that is not a big deal, as the spell lasts for hour/lvl.

Also, for those saying it needs to be 5ft away, that was 3.x as well, it can now be directed to move away or hold position. It only winks out if the caster goes beyond short range away from the disk.

As the caster also probably wants to stay out of melee, same as the archer, this is simply providing action economy to the archer in the event that both need to move away from advancing enemies. It is situationally usefull with no real investment on the casters part, aside from maybe the spell slot to cast it.

Lastly unless your talking about halflings and gnomes, this is at least a second level tactic. Most other races are to heavy to be held at first level by the disk. Actually I would say this is at least a 6th level tactic, since the archer doesn't truly need full round attacks until he gets more than one attack anyway.

Was just reading the post about the warlock, and got to thinking about per classes I would Iike to see made into Pathfinder.

Particularly, I very much liked the Binder and ShadowCaster from Tome of Magic. Didn't like the TrueNamer so much, but oh well...

Anyway, are they restricted to being "not open license" like the warlock? Does anyone have a rebuild they have done on their own, or a 3rd party build they could direct me to?

Tome of Magic had a lot of potential, and the classes were great on the thematic level. Unfortunately, I think the book suffered from lack of play testing.

My group had to do some overhauling to get the classes reasonably playable. Minor tweaking on the Binder, moderate on the ShadowCaster, and extreme amounts on the TrueNamer. Did anyone else find they needed to do the same changing?

I think the real question that needs to be asked here is...Is it rollplaying or roleplaying for my cha 7 Gunslinger Paladin to kill an entire village with the dark blade of Rovagug, and is he still LG?

Well, is he?

meanwhile in Pathfinder rpg it states on page 304 of the bestiary that this is a standard action. Different game, different rules.

+1 for getting us back from the past
