Elur was born in the hot, sandy wastes of Anauroch, to a small tribe of nomadic ifrit. There she spent her childhood travelling the desert, in a constant fight for survival. Even though life in the desert was hard—or perhaps even because life in the desert was hard—the ifrits were able to celebrate often. Their celebrations were a spectacle to behold. Elur was always fascinated with the celebrations. Especially the fire dancers. She could have watched the fire dancers for a lifetime.
Elur enjoyed the fight for survival and the subsequent celebrations. But when she was 60, it all ended. The ifrit tribe was attacked in the middle of the night. This was not the first time. Raids had always existed between nomadic tribes in the desert. But this was the most vicious. The fighting eventually broke into the main camp. Elur helped her niece, Feal, escape the fighting. They ran and found a place to hide. They were almost caught, but that night, Elur found something within herself. She was able to create some strange magic that killed the man who found them After the sounds of battle had died down, Feal and Elur returned to camp to find most of the people dead—including Fael’s parents—and many who had survived, were severely wounded. Besides that, almost all of their food and animals were gone. With so few ifrits surviving, they knew they could not survive the desert. They banded together to leave. A small band of 12 ifrits made it out of Anauroch. The tribe was dissolved. They went their separate ways in the world, refugees.
Fael and Elur remained together, travelling from one land to another trying to find a home. They eventually found refuge in Cormyr. Elur tried to take care of Fael, but city life was very different than what they had grown up with, and they went without food as often as not. Elur tried to make money as a fire dancer, using her sorcery to enhance the effects. Her exotic art was appreciated, but she was never very good at it. Eventually Fael fell ill. A terrible disease that had not been seen in the desert. Elur tried to help her, but Fael died.
Elur terrorized by memories of her dead family, eventually left Cormyr. She had recently heard news of a change of political climate down in Tethyr. She made her way there with a caravan of priests from the church of Helm. She made great friends with some of them, and kept in contact once in the city. Finally, years after arriving, they called on her.
