Elsebeth was born into a life of privilege and luxury. She was the only child of Cambria, a respected troubleshooter and ‘fixer’ for the family council. As she grew up, she became accustomed to having every whim fulfilled by her father’s underlings – although they usually did so with a barely concealed loathing and contempt.
Her life changed dramatically when she was twelve and Cambria took a new wife who bore him a daughter, Vionelle. From that moment, Elsebeth’s privileged position was usurped by his new baby girl. Cambria was no longer content to keep Elsebeth in the luxury to which she had become accustomed. He put her to work, initially as a thief – a role she fulfilled with some ability, but without any love.
Her great value to the family, came when Cambria put her to work as a spy and conwoman. He would often use his daughter as a means to seek information or access to some of Bastion’s wealthy, older men. In his role within the family, he often has need of an agent who is not well known as a member of the criminal network. Elsebeth is often assigned these espionage roles – sometimes with a view to blackmailing the target and other times just to obtain information.
Resentful of her younger sister, Elsebeth has so far devoted herself to such tasks in an effort to win back the favoured status she used to enjoy at her father’s side.
