Spoiler:
Assurance (Occultism) - Even in the worst circumstances, you can perform basic tasks. Choose a skill you’re trained in. You can forgo rolling a skill check for that skill to instead receive a result of 10 + your proficiency bonus (do not apply any other bonuses, penalties, or modifiers). Class Feats Spoiler:
Flexible Studies - You’ve collected a cross-section of information on various disciplines you can refer to when preparing for various tasks. During your daily preparations, you can cram on a certain subject to become temporarily trained in one skill of your choice. This proficiency lasts until you prepare again. As this proficiency is temporary, you can’t use it as a prerequisite for a skill increase or a permanent character option like a feat.
That's Odd - When you enter a new location, such as a room or corridor, you immediately notice one thing out of the ordinary. The GM determines what it is, or whether there’s nothing reasonable to pick up, skipping obvious clues that can be easily noticed without a check or specifically looking for them. You learn only that an area or object is suspicious, but not why it’s suspicious. For example, if you entered a study with a large bloodstain on the ground, the bloodstain is so obviously suspicious it’s evident to you already, so the GM might note that there’s something suspicious about the desk drawer instead. You would then need to investigate the drawer further to find out what specifically is out of the ordinary. That’s Odd doesn’t reveal whether creatures are suspicious. You don’t typically get any benefit when you leave and come back to a place, though if a major change has happened there and time has passed, the GM might determine that you do. Trap Finder - You have an intuitive sense that alerts you to the dangers and presence of traps. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Perception checks to find traps, to AC against attacks made by traps, and to saves against traps. Even if you aren’t Searching, you get a check to find traps that normally require you to be Searching. You still need to meet any other requirements to find the trap. You can disable traps that require a proficiency rank of master in Thievery. If you have master proficiency in Thievery, you can disable traps that require a proficiency rank of legendary instead, and your circumstance bonuses against traps increase to +2. Skills Spoiler:

You gain one activity and one reaction you can use to investigate cases: Pursue a Lead and Clue In.
Spoiler:
Pursue a Lead - Frequency - once per 10 minutes.
You spend 1 minute examining the details of one potential clue, designating the subject related to that clue as the target of your active investigation. This subject is typically a single creature, item, or small location (such as a room or corridor), but the GM might allow a different scope for your investigation. You don’t need to know the identity, purpose, or nature of the subject, but you do need to be aware of its existence. For instance, finding a footprint is enough to investigate the creature that left it, and seeing a hasty sketch of an item or location can be enough to start your investigation of that subject. Whenever you attempt a Perception or skill check to investigate a designated subject, you gain a +1 circumstance bonus to the check. The exact checks this applies to depend on the actions you use to investigate and are determined by the GM, but checks to investigate are typically Perception checks or skill checks that use Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. You can maintain two active investigations at a time. If you Pursue another Lead after that, the subject must be different from any of your current investigations (or rather, they must be different as far as you know), and you give up on a current subject of your choice. Once you’ve given up pursuit of a subject, you can’t Pursue that Lead again until after the next time you make your daily preparations. Clue In - Frequency - once per 10 minutes; Trigger - Another creature attempts a check to investigate a lead you’re pursuing.
Devise a Stratagem: You can play out a battle in your head, using brains rather than brawn to execute an attack.
Spoiler:
Devise a Stratagem - Frequency - once per round.
You assess a foe’s weaknesses in combat and use them to formulate a plan of attack against your enemy. Choose a creature you can see and roll a d20. If you Strike the chosen creature later this round, you must use the result of the roll you made to Devise a Stratagem for your Strike’s attack roll instead of rolling. You make this substitution only for the first Strike you make against the creature this round, not any subsequent attacks. When you make this substitution, you can also add your Intelligence modifier to your attack roll instead of your Strength or Dexterity modifier, provided your Strike uses an agile or finesse melee weapon, an agile or finesse unarmed attack, a ranged weapon (which must be agile or finesse if it’s a melee weapon with the thrown trait), or a sap. If you’re aware that the creature you choose is the subject of a lead you’re pursuing, you can use this ability as a free action. Methodology (Empiricism): Everything comes down to data. Calculating statistics, running numbers, and using inductive reasoning allows you to determine the most likely outcome of any scenario, and anything out of place draws your keen attention. You are trained in one Intelligence-based skill of your choice. You gain the That’s Odd investigator feat (page 60), and you gain the Expeditious Inspection free action. Spoiler:
Expeditious Inspection - Frequency - once per 10 minutes.
You observe and assess your surroundings with great speed. You Recall Knowledge, Seek, or Sense Motive as a free action. Strategic Strike: When you strike carefully and with forethought, you deal a telling blow. When making a Strike that adds your Intelligence modifier on your attack roll due to Devising a Stratagem, you deal an additional 1d6 precision damage. As your investigator level increases, so too does the deadliness of your strategic strike. Increase the number of dice by one at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th levels. BACKGROUND
Spoiler:
Elien Psirec was born in Ustalav as a citizen of the academically inclined city of Lepidstadt on the northern border near Belkzen. His parents owned a very reasonable tailoring business catering to the fashion needs of various dignitaries, many of whom taught at the neighboring university and occasionally had need to visit the nobility in Caliphas. From an early age, however, his father knew Elien was meant for something greater. And as an avid reader with an extensive library, he provided his son with all manner of tales and historical accounts to broaden his mind. In time, his parents made arrangements to fund his education at the university itself, and it was there that Elien found his true calling. Learning has become a lifelong goal of Elien. Mysteries both historical and modern-day appeal to his inquisitive mind. Advancing quickly in his studies, he came to the attention of various professors who subsequently introduced him to guest lecturers and explorers from across the far-flung reaches of the world. One such luminary--the daughter of a noble family in Caliphas--proved to be a member of the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye, and they began a potentially scandalous romance during her time at the university. While she never revealed her association with the secretive organization, Elien managed to piece together the truth from various clues, and she was impressed enough by his determination, principles, and cleverness that she invited him to join the order, as well. Upon graduating in the top of his class, Elien moved to Caliphas to be closer to his paramour, but broke off their relationship when she became betrothed to another suitor in an arranged marriage. And, while his affiliation with the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye had availed him of even further resources to advance his learning, he yearned to visit the places and cultures he'd only read about. Shortly thereafter, the Whispering Tyrant broke free of Gallowspire and laid ruin to the neighboring nation of Lastwall, terrifying the entire Inner Sea region. Faced with such a threat in close proximity to all he held dear, he became a voice rallying others to prepare and fight...sometimes by speaking in the open marketplace, or more frequently with pen and parchment as a contributor to several books on the history of the witch-king, Tar-Baphon. This latter effort brought him to the attention of the Pathfinder Society, as one of their factions had a direct interest in safeguarding the world against such evils. Known as the Vigilant Seal, they offered him a chance to leave his native homeland and become and an adventurer to put his words into action. Sensing a kindred spirit in the documented heroes of the Pathfinder Chronicles, he applied to Grand Lodge in Absalom and was accepted. Now, he awaits his first assignment, hopeful to build a legacy of his own that will shield his homeland and the rest of civilization from such threats.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Spoiler:
Elien has a long, lean frame, standing 5-foot, 11-inches tall, and weighing 175 pounds. Typically, he wears his dark hair down to his shoulders, combed to either side of a natural widow's peak. His complexion remains somewhat pale due to hours of indoor study and the cloudy, overcast skies of his native Ustalav, only somewhat offset by a short patch of beard growth along his chin and jawline. His most dominant feature, however, is his eyes. Dark and mysterious, they can prove unsettling for those he may question as part of his investigations in service to the Pathfinder Society and the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye. Elien's wardrobe is always stylishly practical. He takes pride in his appearance, but also recognizes the need for functionality over pomp and circumstance. A gray surcoat covers the padded armor worn over his explorer's outfit, decorated with simple gold embroidery. And a pair of tan trousers replete with extra pockets for tools of the trade are always tucked into his rugged boots. A black bandolier and leather baldric cross his chest, ensuring his alchemical tools and dagger remain close at hand, while a sturdy belt also holds a pair of pouches, the scabbard for his shortsword, and a neatly coiled whip at his waist. Last but not least, his ever-present crossbow is usually in his hands or slung across his pack when adventuring, an heirloom handed down from his father which supposedly slew a raging werewolf with a single silver bolt.
PERSONALITY
Spoiler:
Elien brings a pragmatic, methodical approach to almost every problem in life, confident in his abilities and ready to use his powerful intellect to assure a better day for everyone. Always motivated by a sense of doing what's good, he rarely lets the strictures of law or the oppression of evil stand in his way, and he enjoys putting down such obstacles when necessary. As a result, Elien generally avoids associating with those of low character and ill temperament, but remains steadfast and loyal to his friends, provided they mirror such principles. Always a talker, Elien enjoys conversing on a wide variety of topics. History, magic, geography, and philosophy make for good subjects most of the time. Even in combat, he may goad his adversaries or share insights into their weaknesses for his companions to exploit. Elien also possesses a constant lust for adventure and getting the most out of life, eager to see what lies over the horizon. He likes meeting new people, making new friends, and living in such a way that he can leave his mark on the world...hopefully, creating something better for those he leaves behind. To that end, he indulges occasionally in good food, fine wine, and fair women. Someday, he hopes to settle down, preferably with a beautiful girl, lots of treasure, and plenty of amazing stories to tell.
