So, at this point I'm going to have to respectfully bow out.
One of the coolest things about this game was a gathering of humans (plus one fey I guess) rallying against forces so drastically beyond their control; Humanity with it's back really against the wall. Then, when all is seemingly lost, a few fragile but worthy heroes step forward to end the darkness and, hopefully, usher in a new light.
It was cool and an interesting concept; one that I feel is lost between around 1/4th of the applicants being non-human, Tales Feats for supreme power, and now Gestalting on top of everything else. Instead of a fantastic Dark Fantasy setting akin to Ravenloft, where it's tough to be a hero, I'm getting more of a "WAT if EVERYTHING was SUPA POW3RZ" vibe, which is simply not what I signed up for.
I wish you all luck in the selection process, and I hope you have a great time.
Happy Gaming,
Gen. Thunderfist

Bard might actually be the best choice in that case, but I'm still not thrilled about it. Oh well, I won't worry about it until RVT makes a decision. Unless I'm grievously mistaken, we are gestalting as of...like 10 minutes ago?
Emmeline wrote: I...I must be the only one who doesn't want to do gestalt, though the main reason is that I DON'T WANNA ALTER MY SHEET AGAIN!;~; If everyone else wants to, I guess I'm okay with it, though. So far the results are pretty skewed. There are a number of us that don't want to gestalt, a number that really just don't care, and then some that want to gestalt. It's far from a consensus. If we have to we have too, luckily there are a good number of people here willing to help one another.
I'm going to have to agree with Neils on that point. If we do end up gestalting, I would prefer to at least have to give up the powerful Tales Feat in return
I definitely don't want to do gestalt. I could throw a class onto of my character rather easily, it's not difficult, but I'd much rather play at this power level we are sitting at now.
Tsiron Ragmar wrote: (I was wondering that since my character's Cha score is meant to personify is grizzledness and his gruff persona, could we add his Cha penalty as a positive to Intimidate checks?) I get it's the flavor of your character, but that's not how Charisma works. A low charisma might come across as gruff and grizzled but not in a good way, more like a "youre ugly and talk bad" way. The reason low Charisma is a negative modifier is because you are not eloquent enough to get your point across, either intimidatingly or diplomatic; and instead of a chiseled and gruff man who seems to have managed to age really well in a scary kinda way (Liam Nieson for example) you are more gruff and grizzled in a bad way (Danny Devito for example). So to sum up, low charisma gives negetive mods for a reason.
Whirrun Bligh wrote: I disagree Eliah, Magus is a very combat effective class. I'm playing a strix magus right now and he's a bloody terror. He crits on a 15 for up to 80 damage at around level 5. And they scale amazing with levels. Magi are extremely combat effective, however they do not do combat and casting completely based off of a single stat. That's the point I'm making, I've played magi before that hit all the time for insane damage, however I didn't just pump Int to get it done.
Emmeline wrote: That's not the intent, but the issue is that as it is, it loses entirely too much to use over the Witch. It uses Int for everything but attack rolls, and the issue is that past the first few levels, you're not going to hit anything with your hair, which makes no sense given that it's their main feature. It uses Int for CMD/CMB, Int for damage mod, but Str for attack rolls. At the very least, it should have some kind of bonus to attack rolls based on something other than hit. It doesn't seem anywhere near effective enough otherwise, due to all it has to give up. Although I see the point, I'm in agreement with Neils. It screws up the balance completely. Now you need nothing but Dex/Int and you can do whatever you want, even the Magus (basically the exact same class as what you propose) isn't that good. Casting and almost all combat based off of Int is a pretty terrible balance.

"...wait..."
Yeah, he's pretty great in that way.
All you need to know is that there will definitely be some believing happening. Please tell me that was an actual thing that was said in the anime? Nope, sorry.
Unfortunately he perished fairly early on, though he still managed to deliver a good deal of memorable lines. Don't worry - it's Electric!
Red Velvet Tiger wrote: I was thinking either a Golarion setting (For those who wanted easier access to magic and such,) or 1930's Earth (The classes would be distinctly non-magical and magic could only be performed with risky rituals gained from Mythos tomes,). In the former case, it would be set in Ustalav, if the latter, the location would be up for debate (America or England seem good choices!).
What would people like to play IF I agree to found the campaign? I have an interest check up under recruitment, so post there.
Are you thinking of using the Sanity rules? I think it provides a good "how does Magic work" for a more modern (Earth 1930s) as well as the lovecraftian themes
I'm all finished up besides finalizing my Tale Feat. Pretty excited
**Updated Character sheet a bit more. Forgot I didn't have Weapon Finesse yet, and I needed to purchase an Alchemy Crafting kit.

Faeries are quite terrifying; quick, strong magic, sneaky. Ya' can barely trust them as far as you can toss 'em.
I'm juust here to get my dues.
Arwyne Feywatcher wrote: @Eli: Does "forest tramp" count as a faction?
Cuz if so, that kinda sucks for me and Emmie.
Uhhh...no it's not mean to be a broad thing. More like "Forces of X Witch" or "Kingdom Y" so you two are safe unless I guess I said Fey or something, although Fey is also a really broad statement so it'd have to be more narrow, like "Fey of the Emerald Forest" or something.
I'm not to certain any of those Tales Feats really fots the idea I was going for. Originally this was something I brainstormed. Thoughts?
Red Velvet Tiger wrote: I have a question: would everyone prefer the campaign as it is or against a particular member of The Five? The former would give us a broader range of tropes but a shallower investment in a particular area. The latter would give us a narrower range of tropes (Possibly, but perhaps not!), but more of a grounded feeling. Given some of the applications, if the latter is the choice then I am leaning towards the Heartless Queen's realm for you all to adventure in. Perhaps we could all do a series of campaigns, each with a focus on a particular member of The Five? The Witches never bothered me much, but if I'm aiming for the Ice Witch I s'pose the rest might just stand in my way.

Arwyne Feywatcher wrote: @Neils: I thought the point of alignments was that they represent your personality and your worldview.
OH WAIT!
They represent your worldview!
...which of course means that the Monk and Paladin's extreme alignment restrictions make even less sense...
IIRC they are described as supposedly setting a guideline for your personality and worldview, however this causes it to make even less sense than just describing how you handle situations and obsticals. Otherwise all Evil would be mean and nasty, which wouldn't go over so well for say a an Advisor trying to subtly take over. Conversely all Good would be overtly nice, which doesn't work for say Eliah because he'd be required to forgive and forget and wouldn't be prone to anger and such when facing his most hated enemies.

Doctor Rogers wrote: Why is the monk required to be lawful when any monk in an adventuring group would be against the norm of the lawful, monastic monk?
I've always felt they should be along the neutral axis, but I'm not really sure how RVT feels about the odd multiclass and alignment.
You could also go Fighter(Lore Warden) to get a bonus to your CMB and skills if Barbarian or Monk are restricted, though I'm not sure it would fit your concept.
Well besides the aforementioned fact that Pathfinder Alignment is horrendous, the Lawful "Monastic" Monk is only one option. Lawful doesn't restrict you to following "Monk Laws" so to speak, in fact you don't even have to take vows or anything if you don't want to. You simply have to respect the governmental laws - or, finding those laws unjust, your own personal code of conduct. It has nothing to do with being a traditional "monk" (however I feel the reason RVT banned them in the first place is due to this Eastern Based Flavor which simply doesn't fit the Euro-Fantasy theme)
Monastic Monks are a concept, whereas Monks are Warrior Priests/Philosophers, and don't necessarily hail from a Monastary or religion so much as being well learned and "in-tune" with life, balance, etc. etc. etc.
They could even be Lawful Evil which is based around furthering your own goals no matter the cost, within a set principle. Like destroying a town that stands in your way, innocents and all, and justifying it because they were enemies and refused to stand down.

The good Doctor doesn't need none of yer dangerous magic, all he needs is a good guy with a pointy stick. I got your back Doc!
Arwyne Feywatcher wrote: @Eliah: the Doctor can study magic eventually though. THEN what are you? Love your avatar btw.
Then I suppose I'm just a guy with a sharp stick and alchemical concoctions. And that horse...I forgot I've still got that horse...
@Royce - OI! I resent that, I'm the most normal one here Ha-Ha
Arwyne Feywatcher wrote: @Niels: Says the guy with the mysterious burn marks and somewhat secretive personality... XD All you magic-y guys fightin' them bad magic gobble-goup - *shudder* - it gives me the willies,
@Doctor Don't you worry though, I'm just like you, just a little more forceful.
Red Velvet Tiger wrote: I will also be providing a list of free bonus 'Tale Feats' that you select from at 1st level. These will be tied to various fairytale tropes. These will work like Story Feats, but will be more powerful and carry drawbacks as well. If anyone has any theme suggestions for theirs, feel free to post! I love free Story Feats. I always want to nab one, but the cost of a feat that could be going towards something else is always too great. No idea for a Tale Feat yet though.
Oh man...so I fixed my sheet. Like hell I'm about to run around on foot with a medium load all the time, so now I have a horse, Greymane. As long as he stays alive and let's me use him as a pack-mule I'll feed him and such.
Oh the wonderful life of pet ownership.
Also, 13 Str not 14, and I just saw Max HD so that's nice. Life's little victories
Hello one and all!
Sorry if I'm a little late to the party, I meant to get this up here last night, but the background took a little longer than I expected to fully flesh out what I was aiming for with my character.
Statblock and Background set and ready!
