About Eliah Jakobs

Background:

The barman filled up a freshly polished glass with some ale, ”You’re new around here, just passin’ through?”

"I wasn't always the travelin' type. I had a family n’ friends once. The man states, pausing to nurse his ale. ”The name’s Eliah Jakobs. I was born n’ raised down across the Faust River. There’s a small port town that sits around the middle of it called Portown. Yeah, ‘parently the settlers aren't much the creative type.” Eliah laughs for a bit as he takes another quick swig of his drink.”Anyway, when I was a boy my father ran a little smithery right in the middle of town. We made horseshoes and the such for the basic runnin’ of the town. When we weren’t workin’ on anything in particular we would make weapons and armors for the local watch. Sometimes we would get requests from soldiers passin’ through.” He shrugs, ”’Twas a livin’. Now, it is a well known fact that Portown is well within the Ice Witch’s territory, but she didn’t bother us none. Her soldiers would come through every once and a while, but besides that we didn’t much get hassled.” Eliah’s voice trailed off for a moment, his eyes focusing past the barman.

”We weren’t hassled at first I s’pose. My father was up river doin’ a deal with someone or another so I was runnin’ the shop. In come these three soldiers of the Ice Witch, and they start lookin’ at some of the blades I had sittin’ out waitin’ to be finished. Anselm, Johannes, and Gregor, I can remember their names clear as day. They didn’t seem to know much about craftsmanship of arms as it were, and needed a blade repaired. I did my best work that day, right proud I was. They paid their coin and went on their way. I didn’t think much of it and went back to my work. Later that night they came back. Apparently one of them broke their new blade, and the blame came down on me. I offered them their money back, in full, they said that wasn’t good enough. They said if this had happened in a fight, it would have cost them their lives, not just a few coins. So they drug out my little brother and my mother, tied us all together, shoved that broken blade into my chest, and kicked us into the Faust River.”

Eliah finishes his ale. ”I don’t know how I lived through it. I don’t even know why I did. My family sure didn’t, I don’t even know where or what happened to my father. All I know is that since then I’ve been traveling. I can’t stand that magical gobbly-goup, and I hope, for their sakes, that I never find those soldiers. I fight what I can, mostly the Witch’s Lot. Sometimes I can wrangle up some gear for a reward, sometimes some new knowledge or tips, make money if it’s available.” He looks up at the barkeep for the first time since he had sat down. The man stared at him, wide-eyed. ”This time I’m hopin’ for some new armor.” With that Eliah moved quickly, catching the barman off guard, and shoved an arrow deep into his throat. The barman fell to the ground choking as blood poured from his neck, as his face slowly shifted forms; becoming more wolf like. Eliah stood up and strode out the door, not even a glance behind him.”Yep...some new armor would be great.”

Five pieces of character background:
1) Eliah was raised in a mundane town and, as such, was naturally distrustful of magic. The run-in with the Ice Witch’s forces has really only served to exacerbate the situation.
2) Eliah was very close to his family before their untimely demise, he was only 16 at the time.
3) Although Eliah still has a lot to learn he has been traveling and hunting monsters and other creatures mostly alone for 4 years, the only time he has had others is when he is asked to help a group or if someone is offered to teach him skills as payment.
4) Eliah’s one memento of his life before his travels is his Dueling Sword with he and his father crafted together. On the handle is engraved the names of all his family and friends who he left behind.
5) Due to his zealous distrust of magic, Eliah has been forced to learn to fight against magic and the supernatural using only his quick wits and brute force.
Two goals as a character/player:
1) Eliah wants to find the Ice Witch and her Soldiers, specifically Anselm, Johannes, and Gregor in order to bring them to justice.
2) After his quest, all Eliah wants to really do is retire peacefully back in his hometown and reopen the Smithery.
Two secrets about my character one known, one unknown:
1) Eliah is racked with guilt about the death of his family, which is one of the main reasons he left home. At first his father had asked they his whole family accompany him to the city, but Eliah promised that he would take care of the Smithery and family while his father was away.
2) Eliah is unaware that as he has been training and growing, so have the three soldiers who killed his family. He assumes that they are but grunts, however they are quite powerful and have risen quickly through the ranks becoming notable officers within the Ice Witch’s ranks.
Provide three people that are close to the character:
1) Anselm, Johannes, and Gregor: The 3 soldiers that killed Eliah’s family. He is on a quest to find and kill them in revenge. Come hell or high water, at the end of the day Eliah will have 3 bodies at his feet.
2) The Ice Witch: Eliah doesn’t know much about the Ice Witch besides the stories and rumors he’s heard floating around taverns and in dark places. As far as Eliah knows she has also never offended him personally, however he holds her equally responsible for the death of his family. If she had never had any soldiers, he feels his family would still be alive, and he wouldn’t have had to become what he is now.
3) Arin Fels Arin was one of Eliah’s best friends growing up. She is currently still in Portown, and Eliah hopes to return to her one day.
Three quirks/mannerisms:
1) Eliah applies what he knows well, however he doesn’t know much, as such he’s not much of a planner, so much as a doer who adapts to the situation well.
2) Eliah strives to save what money he can with the hopes that he can one day retire from this life and start anew back home. In that sense he rarely purchases equipment or food, opting to instead try and provide for himself.
3) Eliah becomes uncharacteristically headstrong when faced with something related to the Ice Witch or any of her cohorts, usually deciding to kill first and never worry about questions. Ever.

Horse:

Greymane is a horse that Eliah acquired as a gift for ridding a small town of a Lycanthrope. He had been hoping for a new peice of armor but, being a small farming community, they only had a single horse to offer. Eliah took it after some reluctance. He believes the horse and him have an understanding, if it carries his gear and doesn’t die, Eliah will feed it and one day retire it as a ride for children or something.
