Gear:

Appearance:
Eldros is a small man, only about 5'7", weighing 110 pounds. His eye color is black, giving him an unsettling appearance. Stubs of horns push through his scalp, which he takes care to cover with his thick, curly black hair (it does not quite meet his shoulders). His fingernails are slightly elongated, as are his canines. His skin is milky white and frequently has sores and blisters pop up. He seems to scowl and sneer, no matter the situation.

Personality:
Eldros believes in the law to the effect of how he can use it to gain advantage over others. Insults do not bother him, and he uses criticism to patch up his weak points. A coward in the face of physical confrontation, he can be quite daring when he deems the risk worth it. He constantly is probing and prodding people, trying to find their weaknesses and secrets so he can one day use them to his advantage. His superb intelligence can be a hindrance, as he usually thinks that an enemy has not put as much thought into something as he has.

Backstory:
Frequent are the tales of tragic villains. Those that only wish to fit in, to get along, and are shunned for their appearance. Those who only resort to their evil as a means to vent their frustration at a world who never gave them a chance. Eldros' tale is not one of these.

Eldros never knew his parents. Horrified at his appearance, they brought him to the local orphanage to be raised, and were never seen again. It quickly became apparent that their fears were well-founded, as even as a young child the tiefling was devious and cruel. While not as big as his fellows, he intimidated the other children with his appearance and personality and intelligence, telling the others he would tell the headmasters of their various misdeeds if they reported any of his wrongdoings. So it was, year after year, his blackmail of his mates continuing as they grew older. Why did he blackmail them? Because he was learning the arcane arts from a hedge wizard outside of the city, and wished no one to know.

One day, one of the other children, a large, kindly lad, finally grew frustrated and went to grab the small teenager. A flash of insight had Eldros respond before the boy had even taken a step, and a cry of pain ensured that Eldros was kicked out of the orphanage, deemed a 'lost cause'. They were right. The tiefling quickly found out that his skills at extortion and intimidation fit in with a different crowd, and fought and clawed to find his niche in the criminal network.

Then the day came that changed everything. Eldros had heard that a local nobleman had arranged for the death of his wife, to make way for a younger, more easy to look upon replacement. Taking pains to gather information (including giving up several lucrative jobs he had going on), he pieced together enough evidence to get the man convicted. He then confronted the nobleman, sneering in his evil way as the man begged and pleaded with Eldros to not say anything. Eldros' life of luxury began.

For a couple of months, Eldros lived easily, bloating himself on the coin of the murderous nobleman. It all had to come to an end, of course. And for something so simple. Months before, he had tried to extort a guard, only to give up on it in the hopes of finding the evidence on the nobleman. The guard, such as Eldros himself had, used every means at his disposal to track Eldros down. He and his fellow guardsmen quickly subdued the wizard, and then proceeded to find the damning evidence while they were 'making a point' to Eldros, destroying his belongings.

Eldros now waits in Branderscar Prison for his inevitable sentence, a likely short-lived trip to the salt mines. He has the satisfaction of knowing the nobleman will likely die for his crimes, at least.

Goals:
Eldros short-term goals (beyond escaping prison) are to acquire vast amounts of knowledge and arcane arts (the more obscure the better). Mid-Term goals would be establishing himself with plenty of funds and comfort, should he decide to take advantage of it. In the long run, Eldros would prefer a new order in which he was near the top. In this position, he would use his authority to gather the arcane knowledge he seeks, unlocking new powers and possibly even immortality.
