HISTORY:

Edyssa's life ended and began in sacrifice and blood, molding her future out of broken visions, madness and a desperation to alter fate. Until the tender age of four, she led a peaceful life. Her father Calder, was a blacksmith that had fallen in love with a kind and plain woman by the name of Bodil. They were a happy couple, living a modest life. She was ordinary until she became pregnant with her first child, that was when her gift as a seer began to manifest.

After her third child her visions became more frequent and vivid. She began to visit the temples searching for answers. She would often fall before the statues of her gods beseeching them. What were once quiet prayers in the privacy of her chambers became pleading and weeping as she conversed with the gods. Terrible images of Ragnarok plagued her mind in all hours of the day.

She could not find asylum from this curse. Bodil became all consumed with these visions and they plunged her into madness. Each day that passed her sanity withered away until one night she decided to change her stars and take fate into her own hands. She began by taking the life of her husband then her two oldest sons, Ingvar and Evan. As she stabbed both of the screaming boys she wailed bitterly, "This is the will of the gods!" These were the last words Ingvar and Evan ever heard from their mother. And just as surely as she gave them life, she took it from them. Her youngest son Halvar saw what was taking place and woke a sleeping Edyssa out of her bed. Together they hid in the cellar whilst Bodil tore apart the house in pursuit of the two frightened children.

As his last act of love for his sister, Halvar took an ax from the cellar and told his little sister to hide behind some fire wood. He ran up the stairs and out of the house so that his mother would chase him. Bodil was no longer the mother Halvar knew and loved. He did what he had to and ended her life. Unfortunately some townspeople saw Halvar kill his mother and they had him arrested blaming him for the deaths of his family. She never saw her bother again.

Edyssa was taken in by her uncle whom she would come to call her father. She was often afraid and could not handle sleeping in her bed nor dared to go down in a cellar. Her uncle was desperate for Edyssa to lead a normal life without fear so he began to teach her how to fight so that she would no longer feel helpless. People saw this as a strange way to help her get over her fear and they mocked her for it.

She was often rejected because of what happened that terrible night. Quick whispers and glances were often made at her. Some gossip or vile rumor was always passed around by her peers like a rotten gift with her name on the tag. It was as if that event in her life stained her and no matter how hard she tried she could never be washed clean of it. Due to not having any friends, Edyssa dedicated her time to painting and learning how to fight with her sword.

Each night, her uncle Raul would try to teach her something new. She was a fast learner and advanced quickly. She overcame her fears and began to live a more normal life. Although she enjoyed sword fighting with her uncle, she longed for a friend her age. Someone who could be her friend.

The end of her lonely days came when her father introduced her to his great friend Vern and his son Elric. She became fascinated by this boy. He never once shied away from her or rejected her. For the first time, the stain that marked her could not be seen and she was just a girl. It was as if that night finally rested in peace and gave way to a future that wasn't tarnished by the actions of others. A future she had a say in. Her days became filled happiness as she learned how to fight along side Elric and her trust in him waxed strong.

They became quite the pair, her with her sword and he with his stinging arrows. But their days became filled with talks and adventure that shifted into something beyond their fighting lessons. Soon her love for him formed and deepened. As time went by she finally confessed her love for him as he did for her. It felt like a dream come true. A true spot of happiness that rose out of the ashes of her former life.

These dreams were shattered when the visions that once tormented her mother rose like ghosts to haunt Edyssa once more. Ragnarok was upon them. They were called to protect and to fight for the lives of people so that they could escape to the bifrost. While Edyssa was busy loading the elderly and children onto wagons to find refuge, she saw Vern knock Elric out. Although chaos was all around, she could only notice a fallen Elric. Before she had a chance to ask his father why he had done so, he ordered her to take him and find a safe place.

Without a moment of hesitation she took him to cave where she laid him down and spent many hours sitting beside his unconscious body. When he finally awoke she was relieved. She knew that she could handle anything as long as she had him by her side. The couple emerged from the cave ready to take on the world. It wasn't until months later that they find out what became of their fathers. After hearing of their passing, they decided to get married. In honor of their memory they held a happy wedding to bring smiles and merriment in a broken world. Their sacrifice was not in vain, Elric and Edyssa survived and lived each moment to its fullest.
