Description:
Grell is taller than most of his countrymen. When not wearing armor, his loose clothing hides the muscular development of his otherwise rather lean physique. His brown eyes seem haunted and unfriendly.
Background:
Born in the small Taldan village of Heldren, Grell considers himself an orphan. When he was 11 years old, he was playing outside the family home, when he heard his father's bloodcurdling scream. Rushing into the house, he saw his mother, sadistic grin on her face, standing over his father's corpse. Seeing Grell in the doorway, she strode purposefully past him, knocking him out with the handle of her dagger when he tried to grab onto her.
Elder Safander of the town's temple to Erastil took him in for a while. As might be expected, Grell was despondant. During the day he would get into fights with other children he felt were bullies or otherwise picking on those weaker. At night he would toss and turn as he dreamed of an archon with five wings fighting demons and devils. Safander identified these visions as being of Ragathiel, the empyreal lord of vengeance. Grell became a follower of Ragathiel immediately.
After he severely beat a member of the village's influential Teppen family for a minor offense, Grell rejected Safander's council to release his anger. Instead he left Heldren in the middle of the night, vowing he would carry out Ragathiel's will wherever it was needed, and secretly hoped he would hear news of his mother, so that he might someday take revenge. After several years of wandering though the backwaters of Taldor, he sought out the Pathfinder Society so that he could travel the nations of the Inner Sea in his quests.
