Wow I started a heated debate!

I just Got Oblivion on the day it came out and I CANNOT stop playing the damn game! I can already tell its going to be one heck of a game. Hate to burst anyone's bubble about Fable (which I realyl liked) but Oblivion will smash it.

P.S. My character is already a vampire. Still trying to figure how I got it but its too cool to get rid of >8)

Favorite Creature ever in D&D and anywhere (Hint it is in the title of the game)

You guesses it, Its dragons.

Now which dragons is my favorite? ..... This one is hard for me to answer. Has to be Blue, Silver, Red, or Gold

P.S. Hate white dragons though....stupid inbreds

A kineticist gets a spell called Tornado blast which is basiclly a meteor swarm only with violent winds. 40ft. radius burst and deals just as much as meteor swarm can. Sure you cannot spread it out like swarm, but it has the same rules basiclly. Touch attack that deals 8d6 (no save) and d6 per power point up to 24d6. Basiclly that and up to 20 times. Sure only one class gets it, but that one psion type pulverizes the other psions. Not even wilders can get that mean.

Yes 400 is what a psion would have by level 20. They get 342 normally and a bonus of about 60-80 with just 26 Intelligence. I dont see that being hard to attain at that level.

A big balancing factor is the fact they gain spells like Sorcerors and can switch them just like one. They still get 36 spells. Psionic items could also be rare and hard to find comapared to just arcane and divine items. I just find it hard to balance ><.

You do know that manifesters can't use more powerpoints than their manifester level to manifest a power, right?

Psionics being overpowered is only a myth.

I do know you can only chug the amount of power points in your spells as your level, its HOW MANY per day they get. They get close to 400 near level 20....that roughly means they can use 20 level 9 spells maxed at level 20 manifester level. Something has got to be wrong with this statistic. Sure they can use only 20 level 9 spells per day.....that can pretty much waste an entire army.

Since I play a Half-Vampire Wood Elf Fighter (DAMN thats a lengthy race to say) I listen to hard rock and think of ways to imagine how my character would fight in a battle. Since he is Chaotic Neutral, I would say he fights like hes bloodthirsty (which he is hahaha.....bad joke).

I have seen that many people do not like the Eberron Campaign setting. While I respect your opinions, I DO like the setting. Its one campaign setting that is different from many of the other campaign settings and is high on magic while many other settings are not near on magic and spells as Eberron's magic wielding civilizations. The alignment rule is VERY screwed up. Paladins who are allied with Karnath?! (Nation where undead is a main battle weapon) Not happening in my setting. There are many new and neat things about the setting. I also like it because dragons were creaters of the world and among the wisest creatures (which they rightfully should be....well all other dragons except stupid inbred white dragons anyway.....). Many things dont make since about a campaign, this is where the DM intervenes to change things THEY beleive should be. Just because a book says that this person is this deadly or civilization is this way does not mean it has to be like that. I like Eberron because its a breath of fresh air and not just a carbon copy of another campaign setting like many that are based off of Forgotten Realms. Eberron is primarily a high magic fantasy setting that is filled with adventure and mystery. DMs also have control on how a region called Cyre was destroyed after the last war by a cataclymic event that left a hole stretching MILES that spawns nasty magic oriented creatures. Though there are many things in Eberron that are strange and need to be changed, I still love this fantasy setting.

Hello Paizonians! I have an issue that I could use some imput on and if I could get some advice on how to fix psionic classes and thier abilities. I like psions but I know that they are too overpowered when it comes to damage potential compared to everyone else. This is because of thier ability to easily pump out 20 level 9 spells a day at max level with the stupid amount of power points they gain. I also like psionics and do not wish to see it die just because they are overpowered. I understand that psionics, while it does not have a great explanation of thier inherent power, is interesting. I like the power point system and allows for cool combinations for your psion(s) to use in and out of combat. I just keep looking over my 3.5 Psionic's handbook and trying to see how to balance them out w/o killing the Psions. I want to make them balanced compared to the other classes in D&D and not just a damage dealer as they are made as in 3.5 edition. Another thing to help me out is to suggest how they gain thier powers and how they can use them.

P.S. Please give advice on the subject please and just dont say statements like, "Its stupid, get rid of them." or so on and so forth.

When it comes to DMing, Pre-gen characters help me out in what to throw at my players or incorporate them with the party. As a player, I despise pre-gen characters. One of the reasons I like D&D is the fact I can make my OWN character and not use someone else's character. I find it bland just to grab a character and play. It is always more fun to create a character and thier own backgrounds than play one already pre-generated. A DM would never be able to make me play a character I did not make...

When I was running my eberron campaign with my friends, the PCs came across huge remnant of a battlefield destroyed when Cyre was obliterated in the last days of the last war. It was foggy, dark, and full of skeletons, dead warforged, and weaponry used in the last war. I actually made new machines not existing in the campaign that were destryed in the mysterious cataclysm of cyre. All in all, it was pretty much a hellish scene where the PCs realize the last war was MUCH more gruesome than it was seen as. Not to mention the giant corpse crab that attacked them as they were on route to the next part of the adventure (I enjoyed that beast >8]). I was sad though none of them excpet one really took an interest in the campaign setting. I was going to add more mystery on what happened to cyre and and the next war was to be.

Sorry to blabber, just be very descriptive in the situation od when they stumble accross a battlefield and make it stick to them.

Those are great! I could imagine a bard or dirge singing about things like that haha.

I am an uncle of 3 at the age of 18. One of my nephews, The oldest nephew, likes when I play D&D with my friends. He took an interest in it when he was becoming a fantasy nerd at his early age. I was looking at a book and now he wants me to play it with him. I believe if I do this, I will not have to play games that bore me to death and he might actually learn math better. It is also good to be with him and let him develop an imagination. I actually will teach him some D&D when he gets maybe a couple years older.

haha the legacy will continue

Hmmm....a good assasin? This is a tough question indeed. Yes, golem did have it right that the class was evil because of thier abilities and some of the spells they have. ls This is because a lot of it tends to be EVIL. I also concure that assasins do not have to be evil. I think you can have a good assasin who slays evil characters, monsters, etc. Paladins do the same thing only with heavy armor but w/o poisen and sneaking. I would bve interested in a good aligned assasin but many things would have to change about the class. I dont even like some...well most...aspects of the Book of Exalted Deeds.

P.S. Blubbernaught put it very well.

My player keep using commune spells to ask their gods what to do.

No problem with the spell itself but I run pretty loose campaigns without a whole lot of things planned in advance.

I have the story and all planned out and the direction I want the camaign to be headed in but the nuts and bolts (like monster X is in dungeon Y doing Z) are generally not in writing until the next session.

My players seem to be happy with this style and I am too but when it comes to divinations I'm not sure how to accomadate the PC's needs because so many of my answers are on the fly.

Any suggestions?

Zat would be me golem! The Radiant Servent of Pelor at your service. Since this question is about me and my party I was interested to say the least.

I can easily say that Baldur's Gate II and Throne of Bhaal were the best video game RPGs ever made. The way the party reacted to your actions and how they would interact with you was great. Though the graphics were not end all godlike, it had the best and most dramatic music in it next to the final fantasy series. I could play the game multiple times and did many things different when I attempted the good and evil paths. Though it had 2nd edition rules which I never understood, I had great amounts of fun playing BG2 and the expansion. The ending after you beat it was even great, though it saddened me to see the series end 8'(. Easily one of the best games ever made and is my favorite video game RPG to date. It was a sad day to see Black Isle fade away into history.

P.S. I am eagerly awaiting Oblivion and NWN 2 because I just upgraded my PC. 8)

Heck, the books you have is all you really need. If I were you, I would first consider the PHB, DMG, and MM the only thing you need. Like others have said, the others are iceing on the cake. I have the complete series and I really only use them for a handful of classes and feats. It is always a good idea to check out what books you looked at getting and consider how many times you will use it. I know I should have looked a couple longer than I did >< .

Unlike SOOOOO many others, I find the eberron setting interesting and new. second order of business is that DDO will not be good. The fact you cannot be a monk, druid, gnome, or others actually made me not even want to beta test it. I actually thought they might make a good game until I heard many things about it which just made me even angrier I read more on what will be in it. I was just angry with how they made the game. All DDO is bastardized rules of normal D&D. Do yourself a favor, get Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 2 instead!

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone allow thier players to create new spells that are within reason in the game? If so, how do you implement it into the game?

I love Dungeons and Dragons.....nuff said

Yes a good D&D movie would be a one that does not SUCK! Enough of these directors who know just the name and have no experiance with the game whatsoever. DOWN WITH BAD WRITING, DIRECTING AND ACTING!

The alignment that fits selfishness the best has to be neutral evil. That is what I get out of the alignment aspect of selfishness.

Very interesting.

I was just wanting to see how much of the paizo community plays which classes. I would also like to hear of your favorite characters you made. I myself love the wizard class just for the fact of how many spells you can have. My favorite character to date has to be my sun elf wizard in FR who specializes in air magic.

As you can see I like dragons. There were some dragons in the draconomicon that were cool like the Pyroclastic and Tarterian dragons. Now it is books and races like this that make me angry. The best part of the Draconomicon for me was the history of the dragons and descriptions they give for many of the dragons.

P.S. Is there even a story on how this race came about?

something about this thread just brings out the best in me.
I'll rant a little later, right now my next door neighbor just got home and the average emergency responce time in our area is dreadfully slow..............

Its alright Golem, everything is going to be ok. Goosfrabah

I am a player in Saern's campaign I agree with what he says about the two's stats but mainly im ranting on RPing. What I thought was the worse part is that they both switched characters the day we started the campaign and I really enjoyed the characters they made up before these melee monsters they came up with. I myself play a Wizard / Elemental Savant (Electricity) going on archmage. In combat, im a crazy evocationist who loves to fry and pulverize enemies with air magic but out of combat I dont act like a raving lunatic. They WERE going to be a Hexblade and a Monk which I like. The Bear Warrior is a dumb concept and Frenzied Berserkers are just an overpowered barbarian who is a party liability. I really liked the stories they created with the Hexblade and Monk but with the last second switch the RP turned bland.

I'm gaming with a group that includes 3 players totally new to D&D and the concept of RPGs in general. Makes for some fun times. See excerpt below:

Quoteable quote from Tuesday's game:

Our fearless adventurers are tasked with finding the local thieves guild and making contact. The party rogue, Kokanee (a water genasi run by Player1), gets a tip on the location of a local fence and decides that's a good place to start. So she and the drow, Hazel (run by Player2), go off to the fence, pretending they have something to sell and don't want questions asked.

Enter the Black Kettle, a junk store run by an old halfling:

K: "Um, Hi! I have something I want to sell."
NPC: "OK, let's see it."
(P1 flipping through her sheet. "I don't have anything extra.")
K turns to Hazel: "Give me something to sell."
After some bickering, H hands the halfling her short sword.
NPC: "How many bodies are on this?"
H stares at him blankly. "Um. I don't remember what they were. What is it I don't like again? Dwarves?"
K: "Shhhh! You'll make him angry."
DM: "He's not a dwarf, he's a halfling"
K: "Yeah, but we don't know what the OTHER half is!"

..... pause...

P3: "Reg... that's not what 'halfling' means..."

Now that is some hilarious stuff. >< haha

What I do not like is when someone thinks lawful good means stuck up tight arse for laws. I say a paladin's duty is always good before law. Paladins would not stand by a law that harms the people and would see to it that it is abolished. I believe paladins see law as a way to maintain order and peace throughout what campaign they would be in. Saying that law is above good defeats the largest aspect of thier class which is to fight evil in it's many forms. I played a paladin of bahamut in a friend's campaign and always favored good above law. After all, all of the other people in the party were quite chaotic and it was best not to drum around my lawful alignment in a pirate town.
