![]() The Blakros Museum. It has been home to the Blakros family's oft-changing collection of relics and oddities for many years. Carved from a solid block of volcanic stone, it's an imposing building of gothic architecture that looms menacingly over Absalom's Wise Quarter even on the most cheerful of days. Today is not one of those days. The rumors that something was amiss at Blakros started in the Wise Quarter in the early morning. By afternoon, the streets and taverns of the entire Patchwork City were ablaze with wild tales, flying back and forth like birds on the wing, each more fanciful than the last. "The Blakros, it's been overrun by demons! Demons, I say!" "Living mists leaching from every door and window, snatching innocents off the street! I saw it with my own eyes!" "Nay, it's a curse! The artifacts within have come to life and claimed the lives of the curator and his entire staff!" Rising above all the conflicting reports and unsubstantiated guesswork was one fact that couldn't be denied: Adril Hestram, one of the most prominent local Pathfinder Society Venture-Captains, was looking for some help. The reason for the Society's direct interest in the Blakros matter was anyone's guess, but the prospect of a cash reward helped suppress any questions swiftly enough. By sunset, several interested parties had stepped forward to lend their aid to the cause. Now, in a comfortable meeting room in Absalom's Pathfinder Society Grand Lodge, five disparate individuals anticipate an audience with Hestram himself. The air of excitement in the room is palpable, and as the five wait upon the Venture-Captain's entrance, introductions would seem to be in order... The wait is over. This is the 'establishing shot' so let's take a moment to have the PC's become acquainted. Please flex your role-playing wings; oh, and a nice physical description wouldn't hurt either. I've purposely left things fairly open in terms of character motivation, and you can expound on this as much as you wish. Some may have been directly asked to participate by the PFS, some may have just heard the word on the streets, and shown up looking to help. Game on! ![]()
![]() Welcome players! I would appreciate it if everyone could post asap, just as a means of confirming your entry into the game. Feel free to greet your fellow players and briefly introduce yourself as well, if you'd like. There are a couple of issues I wanted to discuss before launching into the character creation process (but feel free to express your early thoughts about what you'd like to play at any time!) 1. Two of the five of you have expressed that you have previous experience at DMing or playing in the Shipyard Rats scenario. I also have a few other low-tier PFS scenarios, including The Third Riddle, Mists of Mwangi, and Silent Tide. Now, I have no problem trusting you all to not meta-game, separate player/character knowledge and all that, so there are no issues for me there. But I did wonder if it might not be more fun for those players to try to find a scenario that would be completely fresh for all concerned. Heck, I would even be willing to spring for a brand new scenario if there was one that everyone is keen to try. This is totally up to the players, though, and if everyone wants to proceed with Shipyard Rats, that's what we'll do (I'm not trying to pull a bait and switch here, honest!). Please weigh in with your thoughts. 2. I have been trucking along here under the assumption that we will generate some Pathfinder Society-oriented characters for the PFS Scenario, and then scrap those guys and make all new characters for The Serpent's Skull (with the benefit of the Player's Guide, stronger plot hooks, etc.). But, it occurred to me today that you all might have been under the impression that the same characters from the PFS scenario would be migrated over to the AP in August. And, actually, that would probably be doable if that's what y'all want. It's just a matter of whether you guys feel comfortable creating PCs who are basically 'disposable' and will be replaced in a few months, or whether you were interested in some sort of conitnuity between the appetizer and the main course. I can go either way, so again, please discuss your thoughts. Once these issues have been hammered out, we'll get you guys going on PC creation. As I said, if you want to start tossing ideas around now, that's fine too. Shared background ideas are certainly permissible, if you'd like. Party balance, of course, is always good to keep in mind as well (one of the major reasons why I didn't ask for character ideas with your initial applications...balance would go right out the window). As a reminder, these will be our character creation guidelines (the point about traits is newly added): -1st level PCs
Mmmkay, I'll shut up. You guys talk now. Let's make it a great game!

![]() Greeting friends! As discussed here, I am seeking 4-6 players to play in a short-term adventure, Pathfinder Society Scenario #29, Shipyard Rats (part one of The Devil We Know series). The purpose of the adventure is to help me get my feet wet as a new play by post DM, and hopefully to establish a strong, committed play group to take on The Serpent's Skull AP once it releases in August. I have selected this adventure because it captured my interest, and also because it can be completed in a relatively short time; note that this is not intended to be run as an 'offical' PFS scenario. In order to try to find a group of players who will be most compatible with my DMing style, this will not be a first-come, first-served recruiting process. Instead, I request that interested persons e-mail me a brief, personal introduction. Please try to include as much of the following information as you can, if relevant. This is just a guideline, so feel free to add anything else you like which you feel makes your case. Suggested Info:
Please note well: I don't need to know anything at all about character concepts for now. My intent is to make that a collaborative process for the whole group, once player selections have been made. That being said, I'm sure someone will ask about character creation rules, so here are my early thoughts (subject to discussion and change):
Spoiler:
-1st level PCs -No evil alignments -20 point buy for ability scores -average starting gold by class -Core classes only, no APG playtests -No traditionally evil races (goblins, orcs, drow, etc.) -Faction goals optional (at player's discretion) Other notes: Players are expected to post on average once each weekday, and perhaps once over the weekend if needed. Please notify me of any exceptions (illness, vacation, emergency, etc.) Also, be aware that combat maps will be provided by a method to be determined. Well, after reading all that, if this still sounds at all interesting, please send the above info to me at the following e-mail address:
Spoiler:
dfoster1149 (at) gmail (dot) com I'll evaluate applications for a few days, and announce the group of players on Monday April 12th. Thanks for your time, I'd be happy to answer any questions. I hope to hear from you! -David ![]()
![]() Greetings friends! Please indulge an old-time D&D player/DM (since the late 1970s!). The problem: My work schedule and family life just don't allow time blocks for face to face gaming at this point in my life. Computer games like WoW don't satisfy the itch for creative collaboration and shared fun like a pen and paper RPG. What to do? I think I've found the answer in play by post. There are so many great games being run right here on these boards, and I think it looks like a ball. Feeling inspired, I'm going to give it a go. My long-term plan is to try and tackle an Adventure Path...namely, The Serpent's Skull. Of course, it doesn't start until this August, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It gives me the opportunity to try my hand at DMing in this format, and iron out some of the wrinkles, as it were. Maybe wrangle up a good group of players to boot. So, I'm looking for suggestions. Would a regular length Paizo module be finishable in 4-5 months? Or, would a Pathfinder Society scenario or two be a better choice? I'm wide open to suggestions, comments, and advice. Expression of interest as a player would be encouraging, too! As a final note, please note that I've lurked around here long enough to know that a lot of these things never get off the ground. Since I'm new, I'm sure that may cause some to be hesitant. All I can say for myself is that I'm a mature adult who honestly will commit myself to running the best game possible. And, if it just doesn't work out, well...that's what the shorter 'trial' is for, prior to jumping into something as big as an AP. At the very least, I will promise to communicate openly (the good and the bad), and not just vanish on you. I hope to hear from some of you soon! Thanks!
