About Delan R.

Delan Rosemoon

History: Delan was born to a human mother and an elven father, both of whom raised him in the exciting and often dangerous traveling lifestyle of traders. The first twenty years of his life was spent under their nurturing care. His father Fenian taught him much of his elven history, including the elven language. Though Fenian had left his home city of Kyonin many years prior to Delan’s birth, he made sure the half elf knew of his ancestral home and their culture. Delan even got to see Kyonin once when his family stopped to trade for supplies and goods, learning much of his heritage first hand during that time.

His mother Eloisa was a kind woman, if a bit firm on discipline at times. She never spoke much of her past except to explain that she hadn’t really felt at home near Lake Reykal where she’d been raised. The only highlight of her time there was the time Fenian had arrived and swept her off her feet so thoroughly that when he left she went with him, and never looked back. Eloisa taught Delan much of what he knows with trading and working with all manner of different people.

Raised in such a varied but loving environment, Delan grew into a thoughtful, determined young man that respected most races as equals. He encountered many different people during his travels, and was quick to pick up any information they had to offer, including their histories, cultures, and even their languages. It was clear from an early age that he loved to learn, soaking knowledge like a sponge to water. However, not everything he saw while traveling was favorable. In nearly every corner of the world he visited with his caravan, Delan witnessed varying degrees of poverty, desolation, and persecution. He even experience some of the latter himself as, being a half elf, he was not always treated equally by full blooded elves or humans. Though his parents’ presence in his life was more than enough to keep back the worst of such prejudices, he was still exposed to them, if mildly.

Thus, it was no surprise to Fenian and Eloisa when Delan accepted an invitation to train at the temple of Shelyn in Almas, the capital city of Andoran. Captivated by a goddess who stood for such pure ideals as beauty, love, and the arts, Delan all but dove into his training, eager to learn all he could so that when he was done he could play his part in trying to bring peace and empathy to those that may not receive it elsewhere. During his studies for the priesthood, he was approached by the master bard of the temple who more or less guilted him into also studying for his bardhood. The master had recognized Delan’s talent with song, and knew it would be ill advised for the half elf to let such such a gift from their patron goddess go unnurtured. With diligent training in both fields, by the time his studies were complete he was both a certified bard and an ordained man of the cloth.

After ten years with the temple, his family’s caravan returned to Almas and his father invited him to travel with them once more. Confident in his training and sure that he was ready to go back out into the world with his new knowledge and skills, he made his farewells to the city and the people he knew there and left with his family. He was able to spend almost an entire decade reunited with his parents before tragedy struck. While traveling a dangerous trade road too far south of Brevoy to rely on the nation’s military for assistance, Delan and his family were accosted by bandits.

Before his very eyes, the half elf watched as his parents and kinsmen were brutally murdered, with him as the only survivor due to his graced features. He would spend the next five months as a captive of the bandits, steadily doing what he needed to survive and gain enough of their trust to earn some slack in their leader Kressle’s leash on him, without betraying his own morals or faith. Recently freed by the adventurers that killed his captors and spared his life upon acknowledgement that he was no true bandit, Delan has begun travel with the group in order to ensure the entire organization that slayed his family and brought equal ruin and heartbreak to countless more is destroyed once and for all.
