CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Computer's been fine, other than the monitor going out. Unfortunately, these past week's I've found myself in the same boat as Efreat; my finances evaporated, and I've been scrambling to secure new employment. I had a promising phone interview today, so I've got my fingers crossed that things will settle by the month's end.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari nods and glances to the gnoll trackers. He addresses them in a hushed voice.

In Gnoll:
"Has the ram attacked your hunters when it spots them in the past, or does it seek to flee?"

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"So those foolish enough to fight the ram are transformed into false gold. Fools' gold; how poetic." The inquisitor's voice is emotionless and flat, and he clearly finds no humor in the pun.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari translates for the others' benefit. "Walking on water would explain why our efforts have failed so miserably." He turns his attention once more to their guides.

In Gnoll:
"How many times have you seen the ram? How often does it return?"

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"They'll help; they track the ram we kill it. We get the horns, they get the hide." Daumari grins before continuing, almost as an afterthought.

"They think we'll be slaughtered in the attempt."

In Gnoll:
"Thurrg! Gremar! Raise your heads high. When you return you will be heroes to your pack: You will either bear the golden ram's flayed skin, or proof of our death and foolishness. In either case, you will be praised."
I don't recal what time of day it is. Should we head out now or set up camp? Can't say I like the idea of sleeping alongside our trackers, but it may prove unavoidable anyway.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari takes a step forward and issues a series of barks, snarls, and growls at the Gnoll leader's back.

In Gnoll:
"Filthy, worthless cur! You are so filled with pride that you would sacrifice your pack's well-being to stroke your own ego. They look to you to lead them, but you are unworthy of the position. The sand in your eyes blinds you, and you cannot see the value of this deal. You track, we hunt. We claim the horns as our prize, you claim the hide. We do the dangerous work, and you stand only to profit."

Daumari looks to the other gnolls on the beach. "Are you willing to be led by a selfish whelp?"

I think that counts as Gnollish Diplomacy. Maybe Intimidation, but if I wanted to turn to intimidation at this point I could probably do better ...
Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Intimidation 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Sorry for my absence. My computer was possessed for a bit: Seems I should have uninstalled WoW a few years ago, when I last cancelled my game account. I started the updater while considering playing again, and it turns out they optimized the client files in that time. The launcher started the process on my machine, and for some reason it played havoc with my system files.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari grits his teeth as he listens to Pae and the beastman talk, the inquisitor holding back the urge to attack the monsters first and seek answers amongst their corpses later. He holds his tongue, biting back a series of barks and chattering that would likely incite the gnolls to attack if he did not.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Dauamri snorts at Pae's comment, an odd sound coming from the half-elf. "If you start wasting away, my friend, you will be nothing more than dust by the hour's end." He turns to the others. "I do agree, however; we find this ram, and we leave this place. If it is somewhere on this island, we search it bit by bit until we locate sign of the beast."

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"We seem to be making a habit of angering every predatory beast on this island." Daumari smirks in amusement as he watches the tiger withdraw.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari watches the creature intently, altering his withdrawl to limit the difference in distance between the girallon and both Bahir and himself. The inquisitor give a nearby tree trunk a good crack with his hammer. "Don't forget about me, ugly."

I'll continue to withdraw, altering my speed so that I am as close to the girallon as Bahir. I'll also begin angling my movement to the side, so that I can easily slip into flanking position if it attacks.

I can so easily envision you making those vocalizations as you run. XD

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

It just wants to give you a hug, Priestess.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Sorry; my Campaigns tab didn't show any new posts.

Knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

"Very well." Daumari nods to Bahir then keeps pace with the paladin to cover the group's withdrawl.

Fortress style hammers and Full Defense. I'll try to remain about 15 feet from Bahir but keep the paladin in sight; if the girallon manages to break free we may be able to keep it distracted between us.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari wakes in a sour mood; morning in this place simply doesn't feel right, though he can't decide if it is due to some actual difference or his imagination. "I would rather track this ram and end our wandering quickly. I don't trust this false star; no matter how closely it may resemble the sun, I cannot help but but be reminded its light is not truly the Dawnflower's."

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Dauamri lowers his bow as he watches the surviving manticore flee into the distance. The inquisitor's gaze shifts momentarily to his quiver and its dwindling supply of arrows. He shoulders his weapon and joins the others as they march to Hazreem's campsite.

I've never played a character that ever truly used a bow. Hard to believe how quickly you can go through ammunition with three attacks in a round. Especially when you're shooting so far that you cannot retrive any arrows that missed their mark. >.<

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari fires his bow three more times, taking a step back as he does to better see his target.

5-Foot step East.
I'll fire at the same Manticore I've been attacking until now. If it falls, I'll shift my aim to the next target in line.
Magical Beast Bane Composite Longbow 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19; Damage 1d8 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + (6, 2) + 4 = 15

Magical Beast Bane Composite Longbow 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26; Damage 1d8 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (8) + (3, 5) + 4 = 20

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"May the Dawnflower's enemies fall before me." Daumari recites a brief payer to Sarenrae, infusing his bow with divine energy and continuing to attack.

Activate my bane ability to add the magical beast bane weapon quality to my bow. I will continue to attack the damaged manticore.
Magical Beast Bane Composite Longbow 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16; Damage 1d8 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (7) + (5, 4) + 4 = 20
Magical Beast Bane Composite Longbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8; Damage 1d8 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + (6, 3) + 4 = 16

EDIT Barn _____ Me _____ My Arrows >.<

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari remains silent as he continues to fire on his target, despite the barrage of spikes falling around him.

MW Composite Longbow 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15; Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
MW Composite Longbow 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12; Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Hazreem, you're starting to look like you had a run-in with a pack of dire porcupines.

... is pack the proper term for multiple dire porcupines? Maybe herd? Clutch? Murder?

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari's remain locked on the approaching mantocores, even while dodging their volley of tail spikes. Thehalf-elf silent nocks, aims, and releases two more arrows.

MW Composite Longbow 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14; Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
MW Composite Longbow 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17; Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
I'll fire both arrows at the same manticore I hit last round. The current range penalty of -2 has been factored into both attacks.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

"Manticores. More of Nex's long-forgotten pets, I imagine." Daumari quickly strings his bow, draws an arrow, takes aim at the approaching creatures, and releases the bowstring.

MW Composite Longbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19; Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
I'll fire at the rightmost manticore. A -4 penalty due to the increased range (3 range increments distance) has already been factored into the above attack roll.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Perception 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari maintains his usual composure, but beads of sweat running down his face betray his exertion over the past three hours. "When walking through the wilderness in this way, following the direction of one attuned to its whims is often the best course of action." He nods to Hazreem in agreement, though the inquisitor's voice wavers slightly at the thought of extending their trek.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"I dislike being led by the nose like some beast of burden, but I believe Paellat speaks the truth. I have no desire to remain here, no matter how, pleasant a place this may seem, which leaves only this Rsm." Daumari straightens up and walks to the pier outside, kneeleing down to thoroughly examine the structure.

Perception Take 20 = 20+16 = 36

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari continues to stare at the turtle as it retreats into the surf. The inquisitor absentmindedly raises an arm to wave at the creature as it disappears from view.

SOUP! Come back!

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari halts in mid stride and returns the turtle's stare. After a few moments the inquisitor tilts his head to one side, a motion mirrored by the giant creature.

I sense a kindred spirit. Can we keep him, Hazreem? I'll take good care of him, I promise. I'll polish his shell once a week. I'll make sure he gets plenty of food. I'll tell him stories each night and take him for walks in the surf each morning. He'll be my BFF forever, or at least until the rations run out; I'll name him "Emergency Soup."

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Yes, Daumari can be a real jerk. His comment to Mah'ysa was not intended to illustrate this, but it applies all the same. I think I need to make more effort in noting the tone in his voice in future posts; I meant to indicate disappointment that his warning had been hollow, and the threat was minimal at best. Disappointment that it was safe enough for them to explore in peace.

That said, maybe I shouldn't worry about communicating every inflection. Misunderstandings can be great in a game, and Mah'ysa's response was too perfect; it had me laughing loud enough for the neighbors three floors down to hear. :D

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"I dearly hope such a being was not actually trapped in this place; if it were the case, and this Jhavhul could not engineer an escape of his own, our chances of escape would appear to be exceedingly small." The inquisitor continues to look toward the hut, though his stride seems to lengthen slightly as he speaks.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari lets the spinning of his hammers slow, the heads lazily wrapping themselves around the inquisitors torso as the weapon's magic fades. Looking almost disappointed, he trudges around the monstrous corpse back to the beach before glancing to Mah'ysa.

"It would seem my hesitation in coming here was unwarranted. Enjoy your planar wonderland, Priestess." He then begins striding toward the hut once more.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Keeping his eyes locked on the monstrosity before them, Daumari moves quickly along the hydra's left flank. Attempting to dodge any heads that strike out at him, the inquisitor darts through the surf and launches his hammer at the creature.

I'll move 30 feet (4 squares) directly NE from my current position and allocate the bonus from by defending head to AC.
+1 flaming burst adamantine meteor hammer 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 (20 if someone moves into flanking position before hand); Damage 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 plus 1d6 ⇒ 3 fire (plus 1d6 ⇒ 5 if flanking)

Modified AC 28, touch 18, flat-footed 23 (+3 Dex, +9 armor, +2 shield, +1 dodge, +1 deflection, +2 sacred); 32/22/23 against AoO.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

"As you say, Hazreem; may the Dawnflower's flames sear mine enemies." Dauamri produces his hammers from beneath his robes, one end of the weapon bursting into flames as the inquisitor begin spinning the weapon's ends.

Take up fortress-style stance. Activate judgement (protection, resiliency) class ability. Cast flames of the faithful on the non-defending end of my hammer.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Alright, did some looking through the books and I think the only think I will commission in those allotted eight days would be the addition of the defending weapon property to one of my hammer's ends. That will cost me 6000 gp.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

I have noticed second and third generation gamers tend to have a greater appreciation for the mechanics-side of the hobby. This is probably the reason for that. I can also corroborate Bahir's observation: As a math tutor I've noticed they generally boast greater math skills than their peers. Working with them helps restore my faith in humanity...

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Glancing at Hazreem as he does so, Daumari offers a shrug. "If this is a trap, set by Efreeti or another party entirely, then it would seem we have already fallen victim to it. The only sign of habitation seems like the logical place to begin seeking answers." The Inquisitor sets out toward the hut, his gaze wandering briefly toward the line of vegetation at the jungle's edge every dozen feet.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Pulling himself into a sitting position, Daumari rests his arms on his knees. "I imagine those figures in the fire had something to do with the damage, Priestess. Efreeti, if I am not mistaken." The inquisitor climbs to his feet, shakes the sand from his robes, and checks to make sure his equipment is intact.

"I'm quickly growing tired of the manipulations of genie-kind. First the business that led us to the scroll, and now this."

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

I set a goal for myself: Get my life in order by the time I received the RotRL Anniversary Edition. Met my goal with a day to spare.

Seriously though, thanks for having me back. I'm looking forward to pushing toward the campaign's conclusion. Three books to go, though it seems things are getting decidedly more deadly; not sure if we're going to wrap things up by polishing off the final book or by getting munched at this point. :P

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari props himself up on his elbows. "Yes, Pae, we're all dead. This is Pharasma's Boneyard. Can't you tell?" The inquisitor's voice is hoarse, but still manages to drip with sarcasm.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari groans as he lays still on the sand, squinting to protect his eyes from the bright sun. He lazily drapes an arm over his face to shield himself from the glare as he considers their situation. So much for treading carefully.

The inquisitor's mind drifts to the creatures and scenes witnessed as the group traveled to their new destination.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Daumari cannot help but smirk at the priestess' child-like excitement, but his voice remains as firm and direct as usual. "I must echo Bahir's concern. Otherworldly planes are common in the tales of this and surrounding lands, but a journey to one should not be taken lightly. Recall that Nex was a spellcaster of legendary might; what he saw as a paradise may hold untold dangers to those of lesser ability. We must proceed with caution."

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

That's alright. A have a fair imagination, and you've always done a great job at describing the scene.

EDIT Though I could have done without such a vivid image of being nearly devoured by a hungry jello mold...

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Thanks. I'm working on getting caught up now. I can address a question you raised some time ago as well:

DM Sardaukar wrote:
Daumari: Looking at your last rolls, not sure how you got a +13 in meteor-storm style. (+5 BAB, +1 MW, +1 Haste, +2 Flank, +2 Bane = +11) Am I missing something for a +2? Also not sure on the extra 1d6 damage.

I have the Teamwork Feats Outflank and Precise Strike, and a class ability that allows me to treat any ally (in that particular case Bahir) as if he knows these Feats as well. The first increases my attack bonus against flanked opponents to +4, while the second allows me to inflict an additional 1d6 points of precision damage to a flanked opponent. Together they are my own little Sneak Attack.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Hello everyone! It's been too long.

Good news; the chaos I was facing two months ago has subsided. If the game has not progressed too far at this point I can return. That said, I understand if there is no longer a place for me. In either case I wanted to say hello.

I'll start the process of catching up on the thread when I return from running some errands. Let me know if you'll have me back.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

I wish it were just school. Between family issues, a bout of depression, a little insomnia, finals, and getting very freaked out by the weather (I've never experienced anything like these midwest storms), I've lost track of quite a few things lately. I'm still struggling with getting acclimated to the general Twin Cities area as well.

With my current situation in mind I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a break from play by post games in general. At least, I need to formally state this; I'm ashamed to admit I haven't even found/made the time to visit the Paizo boards in a few weeks. Unfortunately I just have a lot of things to do at the moment, and as much as I've been enjoying these games, and this game in particular (we've been at this for so long now), I have to drop them to the bottom of my priority list for the moment.

I apologize for any inconveniences this might cause. I wish I could simply request a leave, but I have no idea how long it will be before I can devote some time to PbP games again. I wish you all the best. Thank you for having me along.

EDIT I just realized we started this group a full three years ago. Now I really hate to resign from the game; it feels like I betraying everyone, myself included. I don't expect you to wait for me, but at the very least I hope to follow the campaign's progress when I'm able to devote more time to these boards; I'm really gong to hate myself if that's only a few weeks from now. I really hope I'm doing the right thing, and not letting the depression and fatigue speak for me.

That's not nice. With his armor on Bahir doesn't weigh an ounce over 320.

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

Well crumb, that messes me up a bit. I'll essentially do the same thing, but take my 5-foot step west, so that I can gain a flanking bonus. Then I'll maintain meteor storm style and attack. The new series of attacks should be:

Full-Attack Action
Attack 1 24; Damage 24
Attack 2 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24; Damage 1d10 + 3 + 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (3, 5) + (2) = 21
Hasted Attack 17; Damage 17

CG male half-elf inquisitor of Sarenrae 8

I think I'll be your flanking partner today, Bahir. Pae might want to pursue his halfling-on-halfling action.

With Tamir gone, Daumari turns to face the Rough Beast's servant. Twisting away from his target, the inquisitor shortens his grip on one end of his hammer while striking out with the other.

Free Actions 5-foot step NE, enter fortress style.
Swift Action Switch to bane (humans), or whatever race the cleric is.
Full-Attack Action (Reach, Flanking)
Attack 1 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26; Damage 1d10 + 4 + 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (4, 5) + (4) = 24

EDIT Don't feel too bad about your rolls. I'm not faring much better.
