About Dartanian

Dartanian is of medium height, lean and athletic-looking, with shoulder-length black hair, dark eyes, and a swarthy complexion. He is usually frowning, with the kind of frown which is often mistaken for a sneer. He has an air of bravado which he uses (mostly unsuccessfully) to hide his lack of self-confidence, and a simmering temper. He's getting better at keeping control of that temper. Or at least that's what he tells himself.

Dartanian was born and raised in Restov. Since his mother was something of a "wild child", he was brought up mostly by his grandparents. His grandmother was a Pathfinder and his grandfather was an Aldori Swordlord. His father was a Kellid barbarian who was in-and-out of Dartanian's life until he finally disappeared for good shortly before Dartanian reached adolescence.

Dartanian had a great deal of difficulty establishing an identity for himself. He tried to fit in with his father's relatives, but while they didn't exactly ostracize him, it was quite clear that he was to them an outsider. Dartanian desperately wanted his grandfather's approval, and he trained intensively with the sword, but his grandfather - perhaps too much aware of Dartanian's heritage - constantly reminded him that he lacked discipline. It was only after his grandfather died while away in the River Kingdoms that Dartanian determined to cultivate that discipline and become a great Aldori duelist himself.

The Swordlords who brought back his grandfather's body - and his sword - refused to talk about what happened. Dartanian hopes that if he can prove himself, some day he will be admitted to the Swordlords' ranks and learn what happened to his grandfather. Maybe then he will have the opportunity to take revenge upon...well, upon whomever deserves it!

Dartanian's grandmother introduced him to the Pathfinder Society, and the rest will be history.
