BACKGROUND
Daragor was born in the Shundar-Quah (Spire Clan) on the Storval Plateau, between the Stalak and Kazaron Rivers. His father was Totem Shaman of the clan and, albeit being his fourth child, he was the first boy and thus should be trained to succeed his father.
His childhood was ordinary, compared to a shoanti child. He learned how to survive in their harsh land, how to hunt and how to protect himself. At six he started his studies to become the next shaman, learning about the sacred Thassilonian ruins. Daragor was always fascinated about those ruins, but his religion and the clan rules forbid him of entering them.
When he was eleven, a group of pathfinders was crossing the Storval Plateau, looking for the legendary lost city of Xin-Shalast, and, since there was rumors that the elders of the Shundar-Quah knew its location, they stopped in his village looking for information. Considering it sacred, the elders said nothing about Xin-Shalast and the pathfinders resumed their expedition. Even though knowing it was sacred, Daragor envied those men.
A couple of weeks later the pathfinders returned to his village, in their journey back to Absalom, although they never made to Xin-Shalast. Daragor waited for a couple of minutes then followed them, running away from his family and clan.
After two days, the pathfinders noticed the boy following them. Imagining that he would eventually give up and go back home, they ignored him for another three days. Seeing the boy’s resolve, Balk Sharpeye, the dwarf from their group, decided to take him as an apprentice, at least until he could bring him back to the shoantis.
Balk was a brilliant engineer, specialized in the construction of crossbows. To his surprise, the boy was a fast learner and, as the months passed, he became more and more fond of the boy and Daragor looked like he was born for this. Balk had never seen anyone so passionate and dedicated about his job. Every time Balk needed to leave in a mission for the society, he knew that he could leave Daragor, now Daragor Balkgun, taking care of his shop.
When Daragor was seventeen, he married Janira Willston, a charming chelaxian girl and even though they tried countless times to have a child, she kept aborting. Balk died in a missing when Daragor was twenty-one and two years latter Janira as well when during the birth of his first child that lasted more than one month.
There was nothing left for him in Absalon but Balks shop, so Daragor decided to join the pathfinder’s society. During his first year as an initiate, Daragor lost his left eye in an accident, causing him the next four years training to be able to shoot his crossbow effectively again. And, after his Confirmation, Daragor “Cyclops” Balkgun is finally ready to follow his long forgotten dreams.
