Daphne, the only daughter of Danial and Delphine, badly wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and join the town guard despite her mother wanting a religious life for her. Not strong but quick and bright she knew there had to be a place for her in the guard / militia.
The religion her mother desired for Daphne proved an easy adaptation as her mother preferred Cayden Cailean, and while her mother emphasized the freedom element the drink element has found a place in here life as well.
As Daphne grew Danial did his best to train the girl and her outgoing personality seemed to work both for her mothers wishes and her fathers training. Short and thin is not the best combination for a member of the militia but he was confident her other skills would overcome these short comings. She had a sharp mind, noticing things others did not, and despite her size could still be quite a presence when she wanted to.
In homage to her god Daphne chose a lightweight Rapier as her primary martial weapon and, being naturally quick, developed some skill. The rapier soon took a back seat when she picked up her first crossbow. It was love at first shot and she became as close to an expert as one could at her age, able to make shots with an accuracy and speed few could match.
One night violence struck, a hostage situation in a merchants house. Daphne, not quick to anger by nature, took great affront at the idea of people being held against their without good cause and took matters into her own hands. She snuck into the house and from hiding addressed the captor:
Release your hostages! and then recognized the hostage taker as a local vagrant Bill, do it now!.
Bill was truly surprised and spun, knife in hand, intent on violence, but he was not fast enough. Before he could stab Daphne drew and fired, the bolt planting itself deep in the mans chest.
It was her first kill and, although shaken, she felt justified. No one should take the freedom of the other without a very good reason.
