Ha, I just played Black Waters last month on my paladin!
As the group begins to move, Dahrani whistles to Kaepora. Immediately, the owl takes off into the sky and hovers about 60 ft. above the group, following as they make their way through Absalom.
Dahrani considers the Venture-Captain's mission while the group follows behind.
"I can't say I like the idea of bringing a young girl to such a place, but if it is deemed necessary, I will assist in keeping her protected. Mr. Dreng, do we know to what purpose the young girl wishes to go this site? Is there a task, or are we to just allow her to look around while we keep her protected?"
Dahrani sees the 6th member coming up to the group.
"Ah, welcome young lady. We seem to be on our way to the noble's estate now. It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Dahrani Al-Jahron. My friend in the sky is Kaepora."
After binding and looting the pirates, Dahrani puts on his leather glove for Kaepora to land.
"Looks like we're going down into the ship, friend. Stay on my arm until the action starts."
With his other hand, Dahrani draws one of his swords and points towards the stairs.
"Let's finish showing these slavers who's boss. I think it's about time they learn the term 'occupational hazard'."
I will pass on the loot. He'll take a potion of CLW if nobody else wants it
"Wait, wha....."
Dahrani, slightly confused by how he arrived on the ground, begins to stir around only slightly before he feels the drowsiness set in.
Dahrani shakes his head before realizing what situation has befallen him. He stands up and takes out his maces, leaving his swords on the ground where he dropped them.
"You vile creatures. You shall feel the sting of death by my steel!"
Two successful Will Saves against these auras, using a Hero Point on the second roll after it was made.
A move action to stand up.
A second move action to draw both MW Light Maces.
If you look at the map, I actually have to make 4 Will Saves (3 for 3 auras, 1 for slam attack that hit)
Dahrani would at least arm himself with one sword. If arming myself with both swords doesn't interfere with my Perception/Survival checks, I'll arm myself with both.
Dahrani groans at the antics of the gnome.
"If you think that there are traps, then perhaps I should take the lead on our path. Kaepora can continue to scout ahead for us.
"Kaaras, you and Adaar should stay close in case we miss any signs of ambush. If hobgoblins are anything like their smaller cousins, we're bound to run into some unexpected situation."
Dahrani lets out a lower whistle in the air to Kaepora while gesturing in the direction of the tracks before continuing along the path.
Dahrani will continue to move forward, following the tracks. He'll keep a careful eye for traps while moving along, as well as the road ahead.
Dahrani takes a long look at the tracks, scratching at his head.
"Hmmm, I'm not familiar with these. I'm not sure what manner of creature could have left them, but they are for certain humanoid.
However, I can definitely follow them. They did not do a good enough job of covering their path"
Dahrani walks over to Kaaras to examine the tracks.
"Let's see if we can figure out what we're following and where they're going...
Kaepora is a 'he', not a 'she'.
I'll take the items I listed sans rations (the maces, the tonics, the oils).
Dahrani, while poking through some wares, makes his way to Akare to have a discussion.
"Akare, if you would be so kind, I would like for you to pass some information along to the guards of Solku as you return to town. There seems to be a growing threat not far from Solku that unfortunately, we are not yet ready to address on our own but the town guard should be aware of."
Dahrani tells Akare of the insect men hive, their apparent partnership with the gnolls, and the roads they seem to be hunting on for prey.
"Please let the guards know that we do not intend to let that threat remain, and once our business has concluded on our current journey, we shall return to Solku to speak with them, and hopefully formulate a plan to combine our efforts to eradicate those awful creatures."
Dahrani stands up from the ground and collects his things.
"Ok, if you say so Kaaras. Let's move on."
Dharani shakes his head in disbelief as he rubs his forehead, hoping to deter an inevitable migraine from dealing with Atajinn.
"First he wants to stop in Solku, now he's trying to get a merchant from Solku to come to us? I can't deal with this anymore."
Dahrani sits on the ground.
"Kaaras wants to go to the Lightning Stones, but Atajinn wanted to stop in Solku first. Now he wants to 'summon' a merchant to meet us along the way? I can't keep up anymore. The rest of you can figure out what we're doing. Until then, I'm not moving an inch.
People who hire me as a guide are not nearly as infuriating and confusing as the lot of you, and they at least pay me."
"I suppose if Atajinn finds it necessary, we can stop in Solku for supplies. However, while we're there, we should report the insect hive to the local guard so they can warn travellers on the road."
"I'd advise to move on without stopping in Solku. My only desire to stop in Solku is to ask the soldiers to help us eliminate that insect hive. Let's carry on to The Lightning Stones for now."
If possible, I'd like to make a survival roll to see if I can track it in some way.
FYI, after tonight I won't be checking here until at least Monday night, possibly Tuesday.
Dahrani begins to broaden his strides to catch up to Atajinn.
"Yes, let's see what we can find out about this creature. We should at least try to stop one threat to local travelers on this journey.
Besides, I'm already rather upset about having to stand down from a battle because I was not strong enough. I think I need to vent out some frustration...
Dahrani will search for remains once we arrive (back?) at the oasis
Dahrani lets out a deliberately exaggerated sigh as he packs up his belongings.
"Kaepora, please follow Atajinn to make sure he stays out of trouble."
Dahrani turns to the spirit as he walks by, following Atajinn's trail to the north.
"Dear spirit, I vow to return to the Formian nest to exterminate those foul creatures once I am experienced and capable enough to do so. The demeanor of our dear Gnomish friend may deceive appearances, but I assure you we are all disappointed that we were no match for those beasts."
"I do not hold faith in anyone willing to work with the gnolls. I am also weary of a creature that holds no regard for intelligent life."
"I'm certainly not happy with leaving these creatures be, but I understand we were outnumbered in this encounter. I hope that we return one day to remove this threat to our people."
Dahrani let's out a sharp whistle and Kaepora takes off to begin scouting ahead.
Kaaras, can you update you and Adaar's positioning on roll20? I doubt you're talking to Bratto from behind Adaar, and I'd like to position my character accordingly.
Dahrani begins to slowly climb the cliff wall on his own, refusing assistance from the formians.
"I can make it up this cliff wall just fine on my own. Just need to be careful about it.
Dahrani will refuse assistance from a potential enemy because he is stubborn. I will take 10, and if that's not enough, I will take 20
Can I take 10 on a climb check (for a total of 11) to get up the wall successfully?
Dahrani takes a step towards Kaaras and whispers to him.
"I don't like this. I fear that working with gnolls is bad news. The taskmaster has been pleasant, but we don't know how many are underground. He was nice enough to inform us of the trap, but if we follow, we are then stuck on the other side of said trap with an undetermined number of enemies.
However, this is a cause that you care about and I will not sway you from such. If nothing else, I suggest extreme caution if we are to do this."
Gnolls?!? We're parlaying with GNOLLS?!?!?
I'd like a Perception check to see if I see signs of slave trafficking.
"Friends, the creatures we are tracking appear to be to our north, accompanied with a similar insect creature of smaller size. There are some older tracks of gnolls coming up from the south to the north, and they appeared to have a large hyena with them.
I wish I could say whether the insects and gnolls were working together or fighting each other, though I suppose we shall find out soon. Our journey takes us north as both tracks lead that way. Let us prepare for battle and push forward.
I'd like to use survival on the tracks in both directions. I'll give you two rolls in case they are both required.
"Gentlemen, let us move swiftly. It appears Kaepora has found something."
Dahrani lets a whistle out to Kaepora and he takes off into the air.
"I will have Kaepora scout the area for us to ensure we are out of danger, at least anything immediate."
Myself and Kaepora took some attacks, though Kaepora less so. He should be ok after a night's rest, assuming we get that opportunity."
Dahrani checks on Kaepora to make sure he is not seriously injured before returning to the group.
"Those bug men seemed to have a nasty venom. Is everyone ok?"
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Regardless of the save, my intentions do not change, so if I fail the save apply any modifiers accordingly.
With a fierce growl, Dahrani continues his attack upon the insect man.
Full Round Attack Action
"Foolish, creature. You think you can take me on?"
Dahrani lets out a sharp whistle to signal to Kaepora, then steps to the side and swings both of his swords at the insect man.
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
5-foot step west followed by a full attack. Free action to issue a command to Kaepora.
Dahrani gives a low whistle to Kaepora and begins to move. He makes way for the rocks directly next to the creatures, waiting for them to move from their cover. He tries to be quiet about it, but fails miserably.
Quick Command to Kaepora to stay near me while I make my way over to the other side of the creatures' current cover. I'm using stealth, but moving full speed so it will be less than effective.
Results of the Fort save may affect what I do, so I'll wait until I know what that is.
I can't find anything in our discussions, are animal companions going on the same initiative as their handlers?
Just an FYI guys, Rocky Horror is over so I can return to my normal checking and posting for our game.
Dharani shakes his head at the tiny folk.
"I somehow doubt these insectoids will be in any mood for "talking". If they are attacking travelers, I'm sure they have their reasons and will not be inclined to stop.
Dahrani pauses for a moment before letting out a soft chuckle.
"However, if you wish to try to talk to them diplomatically, I'll be more than happy to stand back and watch."
Dharani helps Gadrick set up a fire before sending Kaepora out to scout.
"Be our eyes in the night, Kaepora. Warn us of danger"
