Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

This has been a lot a fun and it is certainly the longest pbb game ive been involved in. So I'll start posting again next Monday, that should be enough of a break.

Its been nothing major going on life-wise, just a bunch little things adding up. Work has been crazy and it seems like every weekend I have something going on. So I say lets keep going, things will start settling down soon.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Yeah it has been a pretty long running game. Thought about it a bit over the weekend, it would be a shame to drop it after two years. I'm still in if you all are. Sorry for the crisis.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Hey guys, sorry to say I've just have to much life stuff going on right now. And I don't want to keep you guys waiting on posts. So I think I am going to have to bow out. Its been a great run and I've had a lot of fun. I hope you all did as well.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Habe, "No he's not the razor man, I have no idea who this fool keeps babbling about."

The half-ogre looks at Bel'Tanis, "No luk up doktor," and glares back at the aasimar.

Down to the cellar?

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Habe speaks in hushed tones, "He's down in the cellar, just go thought the workroom on this level and the staircase down is to the cellar. But beware he is powerful. Just leave me out of it, I implore you."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

"Because he is the lordship, soon you all will see the razor man in all his glory."

Doctor Habe sits in the corner of his office with a horrific look on his face that Bel'Tanis may strike him.

"He's down below, I had no choice you see...he has money. I need it to cure the sick, I didn't know about his nefarious ways. But I'm afraid it is too late now, we are all dead."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

After hearing Midori speak, Grayst stops writing on the floor and suddenly lucid he looks to Midori, "The razor man said you would visit me here. His lordship made it so. My dear he has a place for you, a special place in his kingdom. I'm so jealous I can not lie. I have the message, oh dear I hope I haven't forgot it, he would be very upset. What was...it."

Grayst then returns to writhing on the ground.

The suddenly he stops again and looks at Midori, " No wait I remember, the master will be pleases with Grayst. He says if you come to his lordship and join his pack, he will end the harvest in your honor."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Did we lose Midori?

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Okay I'm going to handle Scoria's coup de grace attack and Khrondak's attempt at intervention as a perception check on Khrondak's part to notice. Since Scoria didn't say anything first and she is a very calm character, I'd don't feel that anybody would have had much time to react to the sudden attack. I'll make it a perception check dc 20. And then initiative!

Khrondak Perception
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Scoria Initiative
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Khrondak notices that Scoria is drawing her sword to attack the proto-ghoul. He manages to shove him out of the way. Scoria's sword only finds air where Grayst used to stand. He now writhes and contorts on the floor. "hmm sssword so sharp."

Doctor Habe looks extremely frightened, he whispers quietly, "now he knows, prepare for his wrath."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Dr. Habe shrinks in front of Bel'Tanis, "I'm doing nothing...I...need...money...the....necro."

Habe quickly goes silent and points down to the floor.

Khrondak you are not sure what is happening to Grayst.

Scoria however you think he may be in the beginning stages of turning into a ghoul.

Gayst takes a wild snap with his mouth full of fangs towards Matthias, "Razors soooo sharp, lovely, yessss. The razor man embraced me, now chosssen."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The doctor fixes a nervous gaze at Bel'Tanis, "Hes been driven quite insane by his ordeal. He speaks nonsense and has started to hate the light of the sun."

He then adds, "I wouldn't touch him..."

Grayst continues to wiggle and squirm in an unnatural way in his straight-jacket.

"The teeth and razor so sharp, I once saw a snail crawl against the edge...so sharp."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Thaddeus you are not sure why he's being so nervous. Maybe he is naturally a nervous person?

Habe shrugs at Thaddeus, "I run my hospital the way I choose, I'm not looking for additional staff."

Suddenly the door opens and the half-ogre pushes an insane looking man through the door into the office. The man looks feral and wears no clothes except a restraining jacket to keep his arms pinned to his torso.

"The teeth sooo shaaarp," he then proceeds to run his tongue over his teeth with seem unnaturally pointed and sharp for a human. Blood then runs down his mouth, " Mmm tasty!"

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Habe shakes a bit, "That sort of information is not public, we respect our patients privacy."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The doctor looks over the group and fidgets a bit, "Oh you want to see Grayst, who was found at the scene of the murder the other day?"

He then gives a stern look to the dim witted half-ogre, "Fetch the patient! NOW!"

The ogre shrugs and pulls his massive bulk through the door and deeper in the hospital.

Doctor Habe then adjusts his glasses, " He should be back in a moment."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Back at it, sorry I had training this week at work and wasn't able to post. And the nights, I had just had stuff keep popping up, limiting my computer time. But should be back on track now.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

A few moments later the door near the gong cord opens. A small man with a horrible comb over enters the room. He wears think glasses and wears a white jacket.

In a very stiff formal accent, "What can I do for you?"

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Yeah you really need at least a week in Yellowstone to see all of the sites. But I'm glad I got to at least drive though.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The half-ogre looks at Matthias with a confused look, "Wut, no dropoaf? Yu wnt doktur Habe?"

The ogre then opens the door fully and invites the party into a small visiting chamber with a desk dominating most of the room. A decorative rope hangs next to the south door, it runs up into the ceiling. Another door is on the opposite side of the south door. The ogre shambles over to the rope and pulls on it. You then hear the sound of a gong. The ogre then flashes a toothy smile, "Gung, doktur, hur hur."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

We did, on the way back took a day to go through Yellowstone. Six hours was not enough to see everything. I need to go back sometime and stay for a week.

Th geysers and the springs were really neat to see. The downside was Old Faithful had too big of crowd for up close viewing, but the lesser geysers you could walk right up to them and get the whole show.

Didn't see any animals though in Yellowstone, which I thought was a bit strange. But I suppose you have to hike in the back country to see the wildlife. Though we did see a young male moose jumping a cattle fence along the road in the Big Horn mountains in Wyoming.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

After a few moments of pounding on the door, you hear the heavy door being unbolted from the inside. The door opens slowly to revel a huge hulking half-ogre brute with purplish warty skin. He is dressed in black leather armor.

"Heyo wut ye wat her?", he looks around and shrugs his massive shoulders, "dropoaf sumbudy?"

Scoria, it looks like all of the ground level windows are barred, and the upper levels have no windows. It is possible that an opening could be found on the roof if you climbed up.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

I thinking burning the dead would be fairly common way to stop the dead from rising. Hemlock agrees it is a good idea and orders all of the bodies burned.

Habe's Sanitarium

A short ride by horseback finds the group outside the walls of the Sanitarium are casting long shadows caused by the late afternoon sun.

The sanitarium is a squat stone three story stone building, only windows are visible on the ground level. A long porch leads up to a stout wooden door serving as the main entrance.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Whew finally back. Sorry I didn't have any time to post, to much driving and other stuff going on.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

I'm going to be going on a road trip later this week, driving from Minnesota to Washington (state). So my posting may be bit spotty for the next week and half. I'll be bringing my RotRL book so we can keep going as much as possible.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Ibor cowers as Khrondak steps up to him," I just don't want to be on the hit list. Harker was skimming money from "Uncle Sczarni", who is the real owner of the mill."

"Isn't the half-elf who adventures with you all in the Sczarni? Or at least an associate? I would watch him if I were you."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Sorry about the slow posts, its been hectic at work this week.

Ibor looks around his cell a bit nervously,as if somebody may be watching. "Yeah payback, Harker was skimming mill profits and with you know who being the real owner. The real owner doesn't take to kindly to that type of activity."

Ibor looks really nervous now, "I'm a dead man, I said to much, one of you are probably his mole."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Ibor looks a bit shocked at Matthias description of a failed hanging,"I don't want that sir, I didn't do anything I swear, I just found Harker and the woman is all."

After hearing Thaddeus, Ibor seems to warm up a bit,"I don't really want to say anything, I don't want to end up like Harker. It was payback, the woman just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Ven

"Mark my words fools, we will have a reckoning for what you all have done to my family."

Ibor was indeed the first to find the bodies. Hemlock brought him in for questioning after the man refused to say much or have give an alibi. Hemlock thought maybe the party could take a run at him to see if we gives up any information. Hemlock doesn't really think he did it. But he thinks Ibor is hiding something.

At this point Scoria and Bel'Tanis arrive back at the garrison and joins the party as they head to Ibor cell.

Ibor sits against the wall of his cell, he looks rather uninterested as the party approaches. He hardly gives a second look.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The Garrison

Ven thrashes against chains at Matthias's words, "Who the hell are you anyway, as if this town needed more troublemakers. You were not there the night I caught Bel'Tanis undressed with my daughter. I think he is now the one killing people, because my daughter rejected him, taking some sort of sick twisted revenge against my family."

After being pulled forward by Khrondak and going eye to eye. A shadow of worry creeps against his face, but as Khrondak speaks, Ven seems to find his resolve. "Listen here you provincial rube, you may go around scaring the little boys and girls with your bad arse barbarian attitude, but it don't play with me. I was the reigning boxing champion of town festivals for five years straight. I chewed muscle bound guys up like you for breakfast back in my prime. Hell I could probably still take you out. So back off."

Ven is a 7th level commoner!

Khrondak, you think Ven is telling the truth about not killing his daughter.

After hearing Thaddeus then speak, Ven seem to settle down a bit. He slumps down against the cell wall. "I told you all, I didn't do it, why would I kill my on daughter? If anything Bel'Tanis did. Go integrate him, I bet hes not even locked up. Besides I have an alibi, I was home in bed with my wife of 30 years. And my other daughter was also home that night. So there, now go tell the Hemlock get me the hell out of here, before I see to it he's no longer the sheriff."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Bel'Tanis and Scoria
"It is no trouble at Bel'Tanis, it was wise to check on the status of the weapon,"Father Zanthus says reassuringly.

At the Garrison
Ven looks up,"Wait I know you bastards, you are friends of that Bel'Tanis, the man who nearly defiled my youngest daughter a month ago."

Ven starts to seethe with rage he begins pulling on his shackles as if trying to attempt to pull them from the wall anchors.

"By the gods I'm going to ruin all of you, for what you have done to my daughters, I think Bel'Tanis killed my daughter at the mill. I will spend my entire fortune to see him hanged, that sick pervert."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Mathias the bodies are very similar to the man in the sawmill. They all appear to be ritually killed in the same way

Scoria, the dagger has not seen an recent use.

"Well you two gave me a fright, I thought this unholy dagger had somehow found its way into the hands of a new killer. May Densa release us from this plague of evil,"Father Zantus states after inspecting the dagger.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Father Zanthus

"Certainly we can take a look in vault and see if everything is in order."

Father Zanthus then stands and stretches out from his cramped illumination work.

"Follow me,"then sets off for the vault.

Once in the vault he uncovers the dagger, nothing seems amiss. He mentions it is in the exact place he left it.

The Garrison

The men seems to have wounds consistant with the man in the mill.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Father Zanthus
"Oh my that is terrible news, it seems this town may be cursed. But the dagger should be still sealed in the vault. I have not looked at since I put it there."

The Garrison
The sheriff mentions that Ven Vinder (father of the woman) and Ibor Thorn (mill) are being held in connection to the crime.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The tracks do indeed end at the River.

Khrondak, Thaddeus and Matthias

You arrive in the basement of of the garrison a short while later, an assistant shows you to the storage room that hold the bodies of the three gangsters. The assistant pulls back the sheets to revel three men each with the seven sided rune carved into their chests. All of them appear quite dead.

Scoria, Bel'Tanis

You arrive back at the Sandpoint Cathedral and find the good father in his study, doing some illumination on a what looks to be a newly bound book.

He looks up at you as you enter the room, "Children what is it I can do for you?"

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Waiting on a direction to go...

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The Farm is about two miles away to the south on near the banks of the Cougar River. The river empties into the gulf just south of Sandpoint.

The Mill is on the Turandarok River which empties into the Sandpoint Harbor once it passes the mill.

Habe's Sanitorium is about four miles to the south of Sandpoint.

Khrondak
Your senses tell you the weather will remain cold and a light rain through out the day.

***
Hemlock addresses the group, "Actually you may not need to go the farm, the bodies are in the basement of the garrison."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Thaddeus

You know that Ghasts are more powerful versions of ghoul, both of which can turn a person into a ghoul with there bite, and their bite causes paralyses. Certainly not a creature you want to fight a alone.

Where to: Check on Father Zantus and the dagger, Go to the Sanitorium, Go to the farm murder, or go to the garrison to speak with Ibor Thorn (a mill worker) or Ven Vinder who are both being held in connection with the crime.

Khrondak
You track the barefoot creature all the way back to the river bank. It appears the creature emerged from the river to enter the mill.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Thaddeus
You are fairly sure that the stench can only be that of a Ghoul or Ghast.

...
Hemlock looks at Scoria in her defense of Bel'Tanis, "Apologies to both of you, I had just heard rumors...somebody thought they were a couple."

"Interestingly the other murders only took place at a farm, the murder victims were actually Sczarni, identified as Vito Mortwell, Lener Hask and Gedwin Tabe. We figured it was a pay back killing. Another man survived the attack Grayst Sevilla, but he was stark raving mad. I had him locked up in Habe's Sanatorium. The murders were quite gruesome, like this one, I figured the poor man's mind just unraveled in the face of such depravity."

Thaddeus
You know the three men worked for Notick's Uncle, and Vito was always railing on Notick for being to soft.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Bel'Tanis

Hemlock puts his hand on your shoulder in a reassuring manner, "No I wasn't trying to imply you are involved, I just know you were an item with the sister for a while, and though you might have heard something about Katrine and Ibor, who are now dead."

Scoria
Although the smell doesn't affect you negatively it still smells foul.

Midori
You are repulsed by the way Ivor was slain, in the same manner that your father was.

Matthias
Your beam of positive energy eradicates the dead necrotic flesh hanging on the axe.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Thaddeus
Most of the crowd disperses after your plea to them to return home, however a few stay and demand answers for what has befallen in the mill.

Midori and Bel'Tanis

The Sheriff looks at Midori a bit puzzled after her comments. "So you have no idea what that note is about?"

He then looks to Bel'Tanis, "You don't have anything to do with this do you? I had heard you had an altercation with Ven Vinder and his daughter Shayliss and it so happens on the victims is Katrine."
Katrine is the other daughter of Ven.

Inside the Mill: Khrondak, Scoria, Matthais
The interior of the mill is a horror seen. The log cutting room is strewn with blood. A female is partially dismembered in the log splitter, certainly a horrible way to die. But even worse is the a naked man chained wall with cruel looking hooks holding him up. His the skin of his face has been sliced off and is missing the lower jawbone. Some sort of arcane symbol is carved into his chest. A foul rotten smell clings to the room.

Scoria
As you look upon the grisly scene, you notice a bloody axe wedge into the floor next to what is left of Katrine's body. The handle is covered in bloody finger prints. The axe head smells foul, even worse than the smell lingering in the air. Chunks of rotten meat cling to the axe head.

Scoria Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Khrondak
You scan about the room, bloody footprints and amongst the sawdust are everywhere. The struggle took place around eight hours ago judging by the dried blood. Interestingly one of the sets of tracks was made by a barefoot human. Both Katrine and Harker (the man chained on the wall) are wearing shoes.

Matthias
The man (Harker, a mill worker) hanging on the wall is in a gruesome state. The rune carved into his indeed that of a Sihedron Rune. The same as found in the Catacombs, Chopper's Isle, The Dagger, and Thistletop.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The Sawmill

A cold drizzling rain begins as you make your way to the sawmill. By the time you arrive a crowd of gawkers have gathered, which are being held off by a ring of watchmen. You see Sheriff Hemlock standing behind the watch, he motions you to come forth.

"Greetings all, sorry we had to reunite under such unpleasantness. But I have asked Sergeant Thaddeus to gather all of you, because I feel your talents are the best suited to deal with this latest threat. We have another ritual style slaying of two people within the sawmill. Very similar to the Chopper method several years back. Perhaps a copycat. The bodies were discovered this morning by Ibor Thron one of mill workers. And there was a similar murder two nights ago in one of the farms outside of town, so we have multiple murders now. I'm afraid this may be much worse than goblins."

Then the Sheriff seems to hesitate before continuing, "and there is this," he then pulls out a piece of bloody parchment out of his belt pouch and hands it to Midori. "I'm afraid the killer left you a note..."

Midori's Note:

"Midori, you will learn to love me, desire my in time as she did. Give yourself to the pack and it shall all end." signed, your lordship.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Day 40, 30th of Lamashan
Skinsaw Murders, Part 1

The winds are getting colder as winter begins to make its return along the gulf. Life in Sandpoint has returned to normal after the latest round of unpleasantness. People go about their business as almost nothing happened. If the townspeople only knew how close Nualia was to releasing a demon, things may not be so calm. But she hardly seems to be a threat to the town any more with her henchmen either slain or incarcerated in Magnimar by Justice Ironbrier. As to her whereabouts only the gods know.

During the latest month you have spent time training, learning new spells, craft minor magical trinkets, working and commissioning new weapons. Basically living a quiet life. For some of you the quiet life appeals to you, others are beginning to chafe at the constant boredom.

However the quiet life is about to end.

Thaddeus
Thaddeus, Sheriff Hemlock summons you immediately as you arrive at the garrison to begin your watch shift.

"Thaddeus welcome, I'm afraid I have need of you and your companions for a sensitive matter, last night a horrible murder has takin place, it seems to be of ritual nature. Please gather your friends and meet me at the saw mill."

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

For the downtime, I was thinking of using more of a simplified version than what is on the prd.

Basically any free day (not used in retraining, spell research and item creation) you can perform a skilled profession or craft roll to earn a small amount of coin. You can also do an unskilled job for 1sp a day.

Skilled: divide each skill or profession roll by 10 for each day to determine income, you can also take 10. For example, you perform instrument and roll a total of 20, you get 2 gp.

Also if you employed by an organization or business, you will receive a salary without rolling. Right now Bel'Tanis and Thaddeus have "jobs". Thaddeus can earn 2gp per day working with the watch. Bel'Tanis can make 1gp guarding the Sandpoint Cathedral.

Then select your lifestyle:

Destitute (0 gp/month): The PC is homeless and lives in the wilderness or on the streets. A destitute character must track every purchase, and may need to resort to Survival checks or theft to feed himself.

(From the PRD)
Poor (3 gp/month): The PC lives in common rooms of taverns, with his parents, or in some other communal situation—this is the lifestyle of most untrained laborers and commoners. He need not track purchases of meals or taxes that cost 1 sp or less.

Average (10 gp/month: The PC lives in his own apartment, small house, or similar location—this is the lifestyle of most trained or skilled experts or warriors. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 1 gp or less from his home in 1d10 minutes, and need not track purchases of common meals or taxes that cost 1 gp or less.

Wealthy (100 gp/month): The PC has a sizable home or a nice suite of rooms in a fine inn. He can secure any nonmagical item worth 5 gp or less from his belongings in his home in 1d10 minutes, and need only track purchases of meals or taxes in excess of 10 gp.

Extravagant (1,000 gp/month): The PC lives in a mansion, castle, or other extravagant home—he might even own the building in question. This is the lifestyle of most aristocrats. He can secure any non-magical item worth 25 gp or less from his belongings in his home in 1d10 minutes. He need only track purchases of meals or taxes in excess of 100 gp.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Okay we will move forward one month to the Skinsaw. That will give people time to train, research and work their day jobs.

Do we want to do any sort of upkeep? Such as making skill rolls for day jobs, cost of living, running a business, that sort of thing?

Some plot lines open plot lines from Burnt Offerings/Chopper's Isle.

1. Where did Nualia go.
2. Who is Malfeshnekor.
3. What happened to Notick.
4. Is the Chopper really dead.
5. The Dagger of Wrath.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

The writings all appear to be written by the same person (presumably the chopper). It also appears he wanted to make Das's son his apprentice, but he couldn't break the boy and just killed him in a fit of rage.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Back to Thistletop or on to Skinsaw?

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

You are more than welcome to have Shadowmist.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Midori

Brodert looks a bit shocked at your mention of demons and evil cults so close to Sandpoint, he adjusts his thick glasses, "Oh..oh..my this is not good news, but I am afraid evil cults and demons are not something I am well read on. Perhaps you could try somebody in Magnimar or Riddleport?"

Matthias
You spend until late in the afternoon gathering and coping the madness of the Chopper's writings. Although there are no more physical threats on the island, the place still leaves you with a sense of dread. You also have made some sense of the insane mind of the Chopper...

1. It appears the shortly after he found the dagger under his home, his decent into madness began.

2. There after he took to the worship of Pazuzu and begin his killing in his name.

3. Some of his writing also appear to be dated after his death, is it possible the chopper is not dead? Or was he careless in his dates?

Bel'Tanis

Das looks rather bored at your description of your new weapon, and crosses his mighty arms across his chest, "Yes, Yes that is fine hero, I can do the design that you speak of...but for the love of the heavens, I have a forge to attend to. Come back in two days and I will have your weapon ready for you."

Khrondak

Khrondak you know that the warrior represented Gorum himself, and creatures of liquid metal are known servants of the lord of fire.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Okay I'll work on something for redeeming the dagger.

Also did anybody claim the horse Shadowmist from Thistletop?

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Bel'Tanis

Das sighs as you approach, "Well hero, what can I help you with?"

Bel'Tanis you detect the man's has soften a bit since the last meeting, but you can Das is a man of little humor.

Khrondak
Khrondak, Daviern greets you as you approach the stable he grasps your arm, "Welcome back brother, your stallion performs well in it is training, it is truly a fine beast. So tell me, what of these goblins at Thistletop."
Assuming you spend a few hours catching up.

The Augury
Khrondak your mind slips into a trance like state, fires burn all around you as you walk on a plain of ash, in the distance, you can hear the rhythmic beat of Sklar-Quah tribal drums. Suddenly a giant of a man stands before, he wears blacked plate mail with a full helm in the motif of a bear, and welds a massive flaming greatsword. You look on in wonder, then the giant-man thrusts his greatsword at you and shouts, "WOE". The sword dissolves in liquid sliver metal and races to you, you can not move as it consumes you, burning your flesh, you scream in agony.

Then suddenly you find yourself back in your room at the Dragon. The candles have burnt low leaving you in the gloom of the room.

Dead Goblins, Dead Geckos

Yeah I like the idea of redeeming items rules from the Book of Exalted Deeds. I'll come up with an idea for it. Hmm since the Runelords are based on the seven sins, then the opposite of wrath would be compassion, I believe.

Also we will wind down Burnt Offerings over the next couple of days and start up Skinsaw. I believe we were going to have a month of downtime.
