After further discussion, it does seem like the other axe was intended to be part of the 1200, with the transfer price really being more like 200. That said, as another party member similarly has a 'growing weapon' thing going, we are thinking of using the Scaling Weapons variant. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/unchained/magic/scalingItems.html Does anyone ahve experience with this?
I'm running into a bit of a crisis of faith, so to speak: Context: I play a character whose background involves a family weapon inherited from his father. The DM was starting us off with a significant chunk of money, but the character is, by background, broke. To make these two facts meet, I gave the character extremely meager beginning equipment, save for a masterwork weapon made of an exotic material. The problem I'm meeting now is that following the game's first major boss fight, the party has come into possession of a magical weapon of the same type. (My character is the only party member who uses this type of weapon.) The best option for me would be to use this new weapon. However, this severely breaks roleplay and immersion, as the character has a significant attachment to his current weapon. I asked my DM what he feels would be an appropriate price for transfering the new weapon's magic to his family's axe, though the price given feels rather excessive to me. The GM justified this price (1200 gp) as being cheaper than enchanting this axe from scratch. However, this does not account for the lost magic on the magical weapon obtained, driving the price beyond the original. I'm hoping to suggest an alternative solution, though I'm having issue finding one. Has anyone run into this? What was your solution?
So, on a whim I figured I'd go through the thread and see what we had going: "Headsman" - Human Barbarian
I included only characters with a full crunch and background, do speak up if you're not in there.
There we go. Got my character's complete sheet ready. "Headsman", half-shoanti, half-street urchin, completely ready to break Lamm in half.
Are you fine with fire-forged steel? It'd be a great flavor fit for my character's weapon, and I'm trying to find semi-frivolous ways to spend my starting gold. Flavor-wise, my character is supposed to be broke but have some valuable heirlooms from his father, so I'm attempting to have only a handful of more expensive items.
Oh, I rolled my stats wrong, then. Time for new stat rolls, then. Dice rolls:
Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 5) = 22 Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 6) = 11 Stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 1) = 15 Stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 2) = 9 Stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 5) = 15 Stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 1) = 12 Rerolls to fill in as needed: 15d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 3, 5, 3, 6, 4, 2, 5, 3, 3, 1, 3, 6) = 57
Stats:
... Gorum is smiling upon Headsman, it seems. These stats are just stupid good, and I'm moderately worried they might hurt my chances of getting picked because they're too high. I'm open to lowering this a bit if you'd rather I do, GM. Level 2 HD: 1d12 ⇒ 6 I'll have my crunch updated by the end of recruitment. How do you lean between Roleplay and Rollplay, DM? Any particular expectations for character background and the like? What can a player do to increase their chances of being picked?
I'm definitely interested in Curse of the Crimson Throne. I'm going to throw my hat in with this character I made for another recruitment. I'll just need to update his crunch. Dice rolling:
Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 2) = 11 Reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 5) = 18 Stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 3) = 15 Stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 3) = 13 Stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 6) = 14 Reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 5) = 16 So the total would be, after rerolls are filled in: Stat 1: 5,6,3 : 14
Stat array: 17, 15, 14, 14, 13, 10 Pretty good. Now to try and figure out how to make my 'totally broke' background work with 2000gp of starting gold. Any ideas? To clarify: We are only supposed to be rerolling the 1s and 2s that would be kept, yes? I see a lot of applicants rerolling every 1 and 2, which leads to much, much stronger stat pools.
Added a character to the list of applicants for a Curse of the Crimson throne game. I was pretty bummed out that he didn't make the cut. Hopefully, second time will be the charm.
True that. Really looking forward to the selection, and strongly hoping to make the cut. Fair disclaimer: I have DMed the first book of this adventure before, but am dying to play through it myself. I have the utmost confidence in my ability not to metagame. I am only passably familliar with the plot of the rest of the adventure path, but not with the details of it.
Huh. Taking a loot at everyone's applications, it looks like we have a lot of former Lambs. Fiona, Nicholas and Jarrus, it seems pretty likely to me that a few of us, perhaps even all four, were captives of Gaedrenn at the same time. If a few of us get picked, it seems to me like that could be an interesting angle to play on. Beyond that, Heads's background as a street urchin packleader opens up for interactions with fellow street orphans and people. I'd be up for talks if anyone is interested in having interacted with him in the past. Similarly, if anyone needs a street urchin or two or three to work into their background, or a distant half-Shoanti relative... Well, really, use your imagination. I'm open to hearing out ideas if anyone wants to share some background. Hm... an all ex-lamb party. That'd be something. By the way, Fiona: Very interesting idea, Gaedrenn as a phantom. I'm vaguely familliar with the early parts of this adventure, and it seems to me like that could work out interestingly. I'm all for trying it out, especially since it gives further reasons for other party members to interact with the phantom.
I'm brewing up a bit of a heavy-hitter Barbarian. Story-wise, he's a teenage street urchin, possibly a former captive child of Gaedrenn who got away. A number of orphans and out of their luck children look up to him as some matter of packleader, and recently, two of his 'charges' have gone missing. He suspects Gaedrenn of being behind this, and is looking for them. GM, would you consider allowing this to fall under 'Missing Son or Daughter'?
GM Rednal wrote: Generally speaking, you take the Spherecasting archetype for the class, which tells you what to replace. ^^ Alright thanks. I probably shouldn't have erased that question post, in hindsight. I'll take a look at that. Jon, could I get an official word on how two gestalt sphere classes stack? EDIT: There doesn't seem to be a Sphere Oracle nor a Sphere Spiritualist. Mh. Yeah, this is getting to be too much trouble for my taste.
Lady Karnelia Meline Varnos of Traegoh I've got my character's crunch up here. Now working on my spiritualist Phantom's. When that's done, I'll write up some background. (I've been brainstorming.) EDIT: Got the phantom's crunch up. Jon, would like your thoughts: Think I should operate the phantom (basically an independent helper character at times, like an eidolon) from the same alias as Karnelia, or should I give it its own alias? In the end I didn't pick us Phantom Fighter. It felt waaay too cheesy.
