Step 1: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character.
Corsa spent the last few years in the army trying to fill a hole in her that came from being unable to pursue her dreams. After finding no fulfillment there she has moved on to adventuring in the hopes that helping people on a smaller scale will fix this
Corsa’s greatest desire as a child was to join the Efreeti Tango, while she was unable to do so she remains fiercely devoted to the god
She uses an iron-bound tome with all of Volcano’s most important teachings as her main weapon
Corsa knows how to craft weapons as well as basic armor because her childhood best friend, Foca’s, father taught her after she showed an interest as a young adult. While she didn’t have enough passion to pursue it as a career, she was quite good for a novice and made the tome she uses as a weapon herself.
Corsa enjoys storytelling, both making or recounting her own and listening to others, and baking. She may not be particularly talented at either but they remind her of home and her childhood.
Step 2: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.
Step 3: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!
Known: If asked why she gave up her dream of joining the Efreeti Tango Corsa will say that it is because she wanted to take a more actionable approach to dealing with the Darkness, but in reality it is because she could not grasp High Ifrit and was unable to continue her training.
Unknown: Altabella is actually immensely jealous of Corsa, specifically the close relationship that she has with her mother as Altabella’s own parents are quite distant. The love and support that Corsa has, and the kindness she is able to show others so readily made Altabella realize just how lonely she is and is a large part of why Altabella was so mean to her.
Step 4: Describe three people that are tied to the character through blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
Honesta Petaccia, Mother: Corsa grew up in the outskirts of Forge with just her mother, Honesta. Despite the fact her husband died in the holy war Honesta remained fiercely devoted to Volcano and was the main reason that Corsa wanted to join the Efreeti Tango. Honesta worked hard to ensure that she had the best life she could provide and while they didn’t always have the nicest things, Corsa always had what she needed and was loved immensely.
Foca Ceretti, best friend: The two of them grew up almost as brother and sister, their families living next to each other for their whole lives. If one of them needed something and were unable to reach their own parents, they knew they could count on the other family to help as best they could. Foca and Corsa spent most of their childhoods dreaming about the future and making their homeland safer together, though as Foca grew older his passion moved from ecclesiastical work to a skald, taking a more direct approach in fighting against the Dark. They reunited briefly while they were both in the army, but Corsa didn’t find fighting the war as fulfilling as she had hoped and returned home after serving the two years she signed up for.
Altabella Castellar, Rival: After moving to Forge to join Efreeti Tango, Corsa met Altabella and they quickly formed an antagonistic relationship. Altabella came from a wealthy family and made it clear that she did not enjoy the presence of Corsa who grew up in a working class family. This rivalry was exacerbated by the fact Corsa and Altabella were the top of their class, having equal marks until learning High Ifrit came into play. Altabella excelled at the language and Corsa could not manage to grasp it regardless of how hard she tried and she dropped out shortly after due to the bullying and her inability to further her studies.
Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
Making fake swords with Foca and pretending to fight the Dark in the fields near her home. It had sparked a passion for protecting those who were weaker in both of them and an interest in actual weaponsmithing in Corsa.
When her High Ifrit teacher told her Corsa had failed the course and would have to repeat it in order to continue studying to join the Efreeti Tango. Until then she was able to brush off the backhanded comments from Altabella about her social class, but after that doubt began to creep in and it became much harder to convince herself the insults were untrue.
Less a specific memory, but during the spring and summer when the work was done early enough Corsa and her mother would wander the fields and woods near their home and pick berries. They would bring them home and make pie or cobbler together to eat while watching the night sky and telling stories.
