Coral moves up next to Kendren and attacks.

Does it take a move action to get next to Kendren if she is going onto the stairs? Or just a 5' step?

Primary, PA -3, IC +3, Heroism +2: 1d20 + 16 - 3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 16 - 3 + 3 + 2 = 22

Iterative if only a 5' step was needed:
Iterative, PA -3, IC +3, Heroism +2: 1d20 + 11 - 3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 3 + 3 + 2 = 32

AC 28, or 29 against evil. And note that Kendren is AC 30, or 31 vs Evil - the Lastwall Phalanx bonus only applies against attacks from evil foes.

Lastwall Phalanx is a Sacred bonus so doesn't stack with the Arazni blessing. But Kendren being adjacent to Coral means her AC is now 29 (+2 from Lastwall Phalanx instead of +1 from the blessing).

Applying Disoriented for -2 attacks, -4 vs. Coral. Bewildered effect ends. Coral is AC 28 with the +1 sacred bonus from the Arazni offering.

Coral is a follower of Iomedae, and the relationship between Iomedae and Arazni is... complicated.

At one point it was quasi-canon that Iomedae had summoned Arazni in the Shining Crusade, though I believe that lore has changed.

She mourns the loss of the Red Crusader but believes that Iomedae proved more than a worthy successor.

She accepts the blessing with bowed head and is ready to go.

"I think burning offerings in memory of Arazni would be the honorable thing to do. Scraping away the gold on the brazier would seem most dishonorable.
What can we sacrifice? Some of the items that the Seal-Breakers had, perhaps?"

Talismans of Arrow Protection are 600 gp each, so one of those would suffice.

If nobody objects, Coral will take one of the talismans and burn it in the brazier.

"Let's make sure we heal Kendren before we proceed."
I don't think Coral was hit.

Coral helps inventory the gear, though nothing really calls to her. The holy symbols of Arazni (she assumes) are... sad, she supposes. As are what she takes to be the mosaics of Arazni below.

Bad things happen to good people and we don't get an answer to 'Why.' They just do.

She looks around the room some more.

Take 10 on Perception for a 33 (35 vs traps).

Assuming that her previous foe (Red) has now succumbed to Damian's attacks, Coral turns her focus to the new arrival (Green).

She will drop Combat Expertise now, not being worried about being flanked. And she will take the extra attack from Blessing of Fervor.

Attack vs Green, PA -3, Prayer +1, IC +3, Heroism +2, Flanking +2: 1d20 + 16 - 3 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 16 - 3 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 24

Coral's AC is (with no allies adjacent) 32 with the +2 dodge bonus from BoF and the +3 from Combat Expertise. If more allies get adjacent then her AC will go up from Lastwall Phalanx.

It seems from the text that we did in fact catch them flat-footed. If that is not so, then just 21 damage and no Disoriented penalty.

@Kendren - I tried to position myself so that if you come up to join me you are not in 5'-full-attack range of Blue and Green.

Bodyguard rolls:
6d20 ⇒ (3, 1, 8, 11, 7, 10) = 40
+4 AC to Kendren for all melee attacks against him this round except the second.

Possible magical aids from the party: Blessing of the Faithful from Isabet, Inspire Competence from Lola, and Heroism from Lola. The first is at-will, the second not unlimited but still abundant, and the third more limited. Whatever can be given would be appreciated.

It has been a while IRL - did we resolve if the Traveler's Any-Tool acquired from Gerdish counts as MW Thieves' Tools? Can I Take 10 in this case? And can Coral identify the nature of the trap?

Taking advantage of Lola's and Kendren's distractions, Coral stabs furiously at Purple.
Switching from Combat Expertise to Power Attack, so AC will be 27.

Primary, Prayer +1, IC +3, PA -3, Flanking: 1d20 + 16 + 1 + 3 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 1 + 3 - 3 + 2 = 27

Coral slashes twice at a foe (Yellow if it still up, and a blinded foe otherwise depending on the Glitterdust saves) and steps back. She continues to use Combat Expertise.

Primary, Prayer +1, IC +3, CE -3: 1d20 + 16 + 1 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (3) + 16 + 1 + 3 - 3 = 20

Damage: 1d4 + 7 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 + 3 = 12

If against a blinded foe, they have -2 AC and are denied Dex, so even the primary might hit. And she will also get to do Sneak Attack.

Sneak Attack if possible:
Primary damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Iterative damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
And applying Disoriented: The target takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls. In addition, the target takes an additional –2 penalty on all attack rolls it makes against the rogue.

In a 2x2 block, with Coral's feat, Lastwall Phalanx is +4 for everybody. Coral has +3 AC from CE and +4 from Phalanx for a total of AC 34. I believe she took 32 damage last round (34 noted but that did not account for Prayer), and she was just healed for 25, so she is down 7; at 55/62.

Acrobatics to avoid AOO, Prayer: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 1 = 20

She then attacks, staying on her guard. Using Combat Expertise. With that, and Lastwall Phalanx with 1 ally adjacent, her AC will be 32 for the next round, though it is only 29 against any possible AOO before her attack. I don't think she gets a bonus from Lola, only from Kendren.

She also has Bodyguard to defend adjacent allies against melee attacks, and Cut from the Air to defend adjacent allies against ranged attacks. Will roll these as needed (or the GM can). Bodyguard just needs to hit AC 10 (only fails on a 1), Cut from the Air is an opposed attack roll (at net +17). Both use up AOOs, and she has 6 AOOs per round.

Coral resists the negative energy.

"Or we let Damian and Feena pick them off while their dark energy fails to harm us. But I'll do as you wish."

Coral will move up and try not to bump into the invisible bard (who Coral can more or less locate thanks to La Guitarra).

She takes position at the end of one of the bridges (in case the enemy tries to cross to attack), and readies to strike the first foe that comes within reach.

I imagine she will probably not get Sneak Attack, but if 2 other allies are threatening the same foe that she attacks, then she will count as flanking and get Sneak Attack.

Readied Action:
Attack, PA, IC +3: 1d20 + 16 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 16 - 3 + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 7 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 6 + 3 = 18
Sneak Attack if applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
If she gets Sneak Attack, applying Disoriented, for -2 to attack rolls, or -4 vs Coral.

Her AC is a base 27, but with Lastwall Phalanx, Fighter's Tactics, and Auspicious Birth she gains a sacred bonus to AC and saves against evil foes equal to 1 plus the number of adjacent allies (since she treats all allies as having her teamwork feats).

As the party studies the area, they notice subtle signs of recent activity: faint mud patches, disrupted dust, scuff marks, and slight dye smears leading to the sewer grate. The strong sewer odor, fresh scratches on the grate, and faint echoes from below suggest this route was likely used for the recent attack and retreat.

Coral looks around.

Lola isn't there.
Isabet is now deferring to the others who experienced the events.
Kendren missed much of that.

Coral wonders if Feena or Damian will explain the situation. Both are more eloquent than she is, at any rate.

Diplomacy in the party:
Isabet +17
Damian +17
Feena +15
Kendren +15
Lola +11
Coral +5
And Marya was at a +12, a level ago. One might think we were a War for the Crown party... lots of very solid diplomats.

Coral will fill in with details here and there, offering connections to the lore of the Knights of Ozem and their mission to make the story resonate better with Ceto.
"Here we had to battle incorporeal undead, as did the knights led by Iomedae in the Second Battle of Encarthan...
when facing the wights I drew upon the lessons of the Fifth Act, the battle with Erum-Hel...
And while the situation is now dire, Iomedae teaches that that we can achieve victory if we act with faith, valor, and strategy."

Coral is of two minds here. On the one hand, she has always respected the Knights of Ozem and knows the party needs their aid.

On the other, a) she suspects that Ceto Malderra will distrust those not formally in the Order, b) Ceto might particularly distrust one with a more subtle approach and label Coral a "thief", and c) Coral has now seen Ceto's temper.

Hope wins out, and she approaches, though with trepidation.

"Remember how she exploded at Ranton Gandry."

She follows Isabet, keeping an eye out for trouble.
I'm not even going to try for the +4 Helpful Aid Another on that Diplomacy check, as it seems excessive at that point for just gaining an audience.

Coral is a light sleeper, and arrives in Feena's room promptly, but at a loss for words.

At Lola's and Kendren's revelations, Coral frowns.
As if we needed more reminders here in Lastwall that the faithful of Iomedae are in danger of failing in their duty, and this foreign goddess must step in to save us. Salt in a wound.

All she says is "Okay."

Did we ever have that promised talk where Isabet explained why she can't be healed? Not sure that we did.

Coral nods. "Yes, you can join us. I don't see why not. Lola is a bit, uh 'different' herself." A Duskwalker servant of Psychopomps isn't quite a Dhampir, but there's a touch of the grave around her all the same. To say nothing of the rest of the party, who now have some strange necromantic resistance.

"And then there was Gerdish. And Vlad. Both crazy, in different ways. Probably not so smart to rest with Gerdish around, but he had us fooled."

Thinking of past companions, Coral is quiet for a moment, finding herself missing Marya.

"Sleep well, everyone."

Coral would normally be restless during the hour-long ritual, pacing and fidgeting with her holy symbol. However, exhausted as she is, she curls up on a chair and takes a nap. Looking for once like a small child, and not a hardened warrior.

When she hears the others talking about the scene, she wakes up and moves over to the scrying mirror. She scans the image, picking out details.

"The dripping water makes me think it is the sewers. We know the Seal-Breakers had a base down there, accessed through the dyeworks.
Would there have been a sanctified temple once, before it was desecrated? Was Vigil built in levels atop previous construction? Maybe there are old records indicating where there had once been a temple."

"A group known as the Seal-Breakers are also involved. As best as we understand, they are violent nihilists who have been working to free the Whispering Tyrant from imprisonment in Gallowspire.
Someone named Gildais hired the Six Wise Crows to steal the fragments of the Shield. This is the undead Count Jomah Gildais, Tar-Baphon’s seneschal who somehow escaped from Gallowspire.
The Seal-Breakers seem to have come into conflict with the Six Wise Crows. My guess is to cover tracks. Wipe out the thieves so they could not disclose the theft of the shield fragments.
I don't see why the Seal-Breakers or Gildais would want the shield fragments. And I don't understand why the Six Wise Crows were contracted to steal all the fragments but one. Why leave one behind?

The festival reminds Coral of the recent meeting with the Baramasco caravan. Was that only the previous day?

GM ShadowLord wrote:
Ahead, the vibrant and bustling caravan of The Baramasco comes into view. It's a lively scene, a stark contrast to the grim realities the party has faced. The caravan is an eclectic collection of wagons, tents, and stalls, all adorned with colorful banners and symbols of Desna. The sounds of laughter, music, and the tantalizing aromas of exotic foods fill the air.

Both celebrations were a welcome break from the horrific nightmares that she had faced, a reminder that life has beauty and joy and is worth fighting for.

While the smell of food at the festival is appealing, she had sated the worst of her hunger at the caravan, and so stays on task.

Coral had, fortunately, finished her cup of ale (and toasting the Lucky Drunk) before seeing the Otyughs.

Coral uses Withdraw, retreating through the building. She started off 10' from the ooze, and her starting square is not considered threatened. However, if it has 15' reach, it can take an AOO on her.

Coral does not hang around in melee with the ooze.

"Come on Kendren, let the invincible ghost-warrior fight it."

She takes a step back (unsure IC of the thing's reach, so a 5' step), switches the sword to her buckler hand, and draws her bow with her free hand. Sheathing provokes, drawing does not, so she will look to 5' step, sheathe, and shoot next round.

She began to piece together what they had learned and what was going on in the city, how it was so crowded with people for the festival, and then paled, "The only reason I can think of that they would be cleaning up is if they were done here and wanted to prevent anyone from figuring out their purpose. What happens if they do the same thing here that they did...to our home? And if they do what time would have a stronger impact than at the start of the festival?"
