Backstory

Chiranjeevi was the only son the Vudrani merchant Dasgupta (mother died during childbirth). Unsuccessful in his own country, Dasgupta packed up his son and moved to Quantium in Nex to set up an exotic goods shop. In addition to being exotic, Dasupta knew enough of history (and made sure his son did too) to make things sound exotic. Chiranjeevi found history interesting to a point but the tales always left out the most compelling information. He was less interested in who was the second son of the Grand Duke and what-not than he was in the things not mentioned. What strange ritual did the sorceress perform to kill the king? History only says that she did it; but what was the strange ritual? How did she accomplish it? History leaves that kind of information out far too often.

Nagging questions like that were what caused Dasgupta to kick his son out during store hours; which was most of the day. He fell in with a group that liked to nag about such things. There was Tumn, a very brawny Halfling, “Red” a cute Ulfen that everybody was smitten with, plus Omar, Kobat, Dahren & Jesk who were all native Nexians. It was Kobat who found a book that had no title written in a language none of them could read which turned out to be Ancient Osiriani. It took over a year for them to collectively learn the language well enough to make any sense of the book. It described a cataclysmic world event that took place ages before Earthfall. Supposedly, during this event, the “old” gods were banished and the “new” gods took their place. What this meant was something of a mystery but referencing many documents (often of dubious merit) they came to the conclusion that the first World gods were the real gods of the world and the current gods were, essentially, usurpers. Brazenly walking into a temple of Pharasma with the type of courage that only 10-12 year olds can muster, they demanded to know the truth from the priests. The priests laughed and kicked them out. This didn’t stop them though and they continually hounded clergy until the guard came, boxed their ears, and told them to cut it out (in no uncertain terms).

Frustrated and angry, it was “Red” who came up with the idea of stealing some Sun Orchid Elixir. Supposedly, some dumb fat merchant had some in the city and, with that, they’d have all the time in the world to learn all the secrets people were hiding. Figuring the man to be an easy mark, they made thier plans (without any real thought to plausibility or consequence). It was a disaster. For one, he was neither dumb nor fat nor even a merchant; being Dresmen Bengada, priest of Achaekek, patron god of the Red Mantis. He had caught wind that someone was after his precious Elixir and prepared accordingly. Expecting a fierce attack, he was startled to discover that the would be thieves were just a bunch of dumb kids. Still, he was not amused and this caused Kobat and Jesk their lives, and in the chaos that followed (some of which caused by Dresmen himself) earned them the enmity of the churches of Pharasma and Nethys, an influential nobleman and the Red Mantis agent who’s disguise was unwittingly exposed. In a panic, they fled out of the city and headed north but fate, and an unnaturally strong fear, conspired to separate them and that was the last Chiranjeevi ever saw them.

By some miracle (for only a miracle could explain how an untrained 12 yeard old managed the journey), Chiranjeevi made it out of Nex into Katapesh where the fear finally subsided; though the mere thought of returning to Nex would always bring it back.

While in Katapesh, he took every chance to learn any scrap of hidden or forgotten knowledge that he could lay his hands on but chafed constantly at the lack of time he had. He never thought to question his remarkable fortune at having come so far with little skill and less money. Eventually, at the advice of a wandering priest of (funny, he can’t seem to remember) he headed near the ruins of Kelmarane to consult the a shaman there. The shaman he met was a Mwangi named Mitumbo who said that he had been “waiting” for him but refused to clarify. Mitumbo said he would send him on a dreamtime quest that would give him “the proper road” as Mitumbo put it.

Ingesting Mitumbo’s strange concoction knocked Chiranjeevi out rapidly. Opening his eyes, he found himself on a vast plain in front of a great tower. He saw/sensed three beings of power before him and, though he had never seen them before, knew who they were as if they were his own kin. Shyka the Many stood before him, behind her, stood Ng the Hooded, and, looking down from his tower, The Lost Prince. No words were spoken. None were needed. When he awoke, the bones of Mitumbo were before him. Over six years had passed and he had aged accordingly. Rather than be upset he found this strangely comforting.

His fear now gone, he began to think of the journey back south but was in no hurry. He took his time to explore and strange piece of information he could find. In fact, he wandered Katapesh for a few more years before finnaly making the decision to return home. As he started his travels south he found, to his surprise, wanted posters for himself and his surviving old friends; seemingly appearing overnight. The posted drawings were accurate with their current age and the crimes they were accused of were terrible. Chiranjeevi was accused of accosting and killing 17 priestesses in their bedchambers: 7 of Pharasma, 4 of Calistria, 2 of Gozreh, and one each of Shelyn, Gorum, Irori, and Norborger. Supposedly, even the church of Asmodeus is interested in him (Nine Hells knows why, it’s probably just a rumor anyway). The law, the churches, and bounty hunters were on his heels quickly. He evaded pursuit until he was able to stow away on a ship bound for Jalmeray (athe only ship he was able to sneak onto) but, strangely enough, the ship docked at Quantium instead.

Chiranjeevi is still passionate about ancient mysteries but feels no pressure as he’s now convinced the truth will be revealed in its proper time, and time is his ally. He is still a wanted man in Katapesh (dead or alive) as well as by the aforementioned churches except Gorum (dead only), Calistria (alive only, they have plans), and Shelyn and Norborger (utterly silent on the issue). However, there have been no wanted posters in Nex and the events from years ago seem to have been forgotten. He has no idea why anyone would frame him (nor how they managed to do it) or how someone was able to obtain such accurate drawings of him. Ultimately, he’s a seeker of truth, even if those truths are sometimes unhappy ones. Chiranjeevi is actually a fairly pleasant person. He’s upset at the crimes he’s been accused of and bears no church any malice (though he still views the current pantheon to be usurpers; he doesn't hate them though).

He's resettled in quantium but is estranged from his father. He gets nervous around any temple areas and will go out of his way to avoid priest9esses) of Pharasma and Calistia especially 9just in case).
