background:

Celik grew up in Kintargo under the influence of his father, a former blacksmith apprentice turned soldier towards the tail end of the chillax civil war. His father despised house Thrune and often talking about the evil nature of the clan. He’d seen what they did to those who opposed them, and even now sees the horror in their ways in comparison to what he used to know, even if it was in a time of war. Celik grew to resent the house because of his father’s stories, even as a child. At home and when not told his father’s old stories, he learned how to work forge, and from his mother he learned a little bit of magic. Otherwise Celik spent his time in a small school, learning a few basic things, including language, mathematics, and history. When he finally came of age, Celik decided against blacksmithing and instead join the town guard. In the wake of the harsh Thrune laws, even the guard had become cruel. He thought that perhaps one person willing to listen to the cries of people might kinder the spirits of the city, incontent with their lacking freedoms. There he learned to fight and in small cases used his magic to help him through tough situations. For many years Celik continued his normal duties, riding a fine line between upholding the discipline the captain of the guard required of them, but also trying to keep his fellow citizens out of harm's way. Through that time however he never really came to like most of his colleagues. Honestly he cared little for them in many cases. More often than not they were perfectly okay bending to the whims of the government, hurting the citizens for things his father said were harmless and even commonplace. Despite his growing disdain for the guard, he felt an obligation to lookout for his people and kept his position. In his off time he picked up smithing again as his father became too old and weak to swing the hammer, or enjoyed a drink or two with a few locals at the bar near the theater who enjoyed his company. Sometimes this would merely go into rants about watching the evil from the inside, and others about his wishes to do something about it. When finally there came a new governor of the city, Celik saw trouble brewing. A member from house Thrune was now in charge. The very lords whom his father spat at verbally for so long was now the people he answered to directly. Tensions escalated further as martial law was declared and the city guard was on full patrol, more oppressive than they had been before. Celik despite his efforts to protect his neighbors were not always met with pleasantries as the town guard were at times first to be targeted for personal aggressions and complaints. Celik understood the grievances the people had, even he at home felt some of the impacts of the changing city in the time he spent making simple weapons and armor. Then came a day with an open protest, Celik was on duty in the very park protests were taking place. He looked on at the angry people, angry himself at the powerless position he was in. Were he to join he would lose his authority, and what ability he had to dampen the blows of the current government would disappear. On the other hand, ignoring it would simply cause more anguish among the citizens. At the end of the day, he had a choice to make.
