Angus came from nothing. As the son of a farming family, all he could look forward to was inheriting the family farm. However, he felt a higher calling, and one day, that call came. King Uthar put out a call to form an army to put down a bandit uprising. Answering the call, Angus trained alongside hundreds of other peasants. Turns out, he had a talent for soldiering. Demonstrating an amazing proficiency with simple weaponry, Ser Bedivere, a young knight at the time, decided to train this man with the sword. Angus took to it like a fish to water. Once the army was trained enough, it headed off to the Bandit Stronghold. After several days of siege, the King’s Army finally crashed through the gate. During the battle, the Knight that had taught Angus to fight with sword was wounded. Managing to drag Bedivere off to a side room, the peasant bound the Knight’s wound, just as two armed bandits burst in the room. Angus fought valiantly and managed to kill them both, but not before losing his right leg from the knee down, as well as his left eye. He soon fell unconscious. Waking up, the peasant found himself being carried on a stretcher to the nearest medical tent. With his life saved, Angus knew he couldn’t do much more for the army in his state. But the Knight he saved owed a debt, and he intended to pay. Speaking to the King, the Ser Bedivere arranged a lordship for the peasant. But King Uthar went one step further, by granting Angus Stewardship of East Watch, a small fortress overlooking the sea and was responsible for protecting the fishing village of Dunlar as well as the surrounding 20 miles. Surprised by such an honor, Angus took to his new position with great seriousness. Despite his wounds, the Steward was still able to lord over East Watch with a no nonsense attitude, which earned him the wedding proposal to the fourth daughter of House Dunloc, a minor trade house that imports silks from across the sea. A woman named Elenor, devout worshiper of Arkay that was particularly well read in the herbal and courtly arts. Within the next four years, Angus was blessed with three children, his eldest son Fergus, eldest daughter Catriona, and youngest daughter Merida. Never getting enough of her Father’s stories, Catriona grew up wanting to become a knight. While Angus did encourage her dreams, it took some convincing to get Elenor on board. Finally a deal was struck; Catriona would study the soldier’s arts, if she also studied with her Mother at night. During the time after King Uthar’s death, Catriona trained hard with the other soldiers in the courtyard by day, then studied religion and medicine with her Mother at night. While not particularly strong, the fire-haired maiden learned that speed could more than compensate, and with a few pointers from Angus, quickly learned that an unarmed opponent or one tricked to expose weakness, was less of a threat. Yet under the tutelage of Elenor, Catriona’s mind grew just as sharp as any blade she wielded. Then Arthur became King just as she came of age. Packing up her belongings, including her Father’s sword Bandit Bane, Catriona headed for the Capital. After proving herself worthy, she became a squire to Ser Bedivere, which she felt was a tremendous honor. Under his guidance, Catriona honed the skills she had learned back home. It was also during this time, that she formed a lasting friendship with another squire named Lady Aline. The two would often be found sparring one another during their off time. Then came the fateful day when she had heard about Aline struck by powerful magic, her heart had sank for a moment, until it was revealed that she would live. Since that time, Catriona had come to realize that she felt much more than friendship with Lady Aline, but also found herself confused by such feelings. Still, she always felt much more comfortable when her friend was around. Upon passing her vigil, Ser Bedivere had one last gift, her Father’s sword enchanted.
Characteristics:
Tends to fight utilizing Combat Manuveurs to gain an advantage. Has strong friendship with Ser Lady Aline. Often confused by her feelings but would be the first to lay down her life to save Aline. Is skill in the healing arts and has knowledge of many herbal properties. Often collects wild herbs to trade with the church for healing aids. Is a devout follower of Arkay and has been known to backhand a person or two that take his name in vain. Considers Ser Bedivere to be a second Father to her.
Noble Relations:
While Catriona takes more after her Father, who isn't too skilled in courtly mannerisms, interactions with Nobility is where most of her Mother's lessons come in handy. She knows how to dress, how do address those of higher station than her own, but the true intriquecies of 'The Game', as her Mother called it, was not something she really mastered. While not shying away from interactions with the various Nobles, there are a select few she does try to keep on the good side of, within her principles of course. Duke Icheg being the top most, since East Watch falls under his domain, that she does her best not to make angry. Given that Steward Angus and the Duke got into a rather heated discussion over something she can't quite recall some years back, it certainly hasn't been an easy road to walk. Another Noble she tends to be friendly with is Duke Ecrin. Something about him just seems to intrigue her, probably because he's one of the few she can practice her Fey-speak with. However, one the Nobles the does tend diplomatically avoid is Countess Isabella, she can't stand the way her and Calous carry on around each other, a clear sign of disrespect towards her fellow knight Ser Lady Genivee. Knight Relations:
Of all the Knights, Ser Bedivere and Ser Lady Aline are the ones she is the closest with. Ser Bedivere, whom she considers a second Father, is the Knight Angus saved all those years ago and the one that trained her as well. Ser Lady Aline was a squire at the same time she was, and the two of them developed a strong friendship. However, lately Catriona has been a little distant from Aline because her feelings for the Frigid confuse her. She was raised with the understanding that one day she would marry some son of a minor Noble house, and live her life defending the kingdom for her children, yet she can't help but feel like she should spend the rest of her life with Aline. Despite her holding back, Catriona would be the first to rush to Aline's side in time of need, and Arkay help the one that hurt or killed Ser Lady Aline. The Knight that Catriona seems to clash with the most, is Ser Lady Titana. On a personal level, the two just don't seem to click, on the battlefield Catriona tries to give her a wide berth, believing that one day, her wreckless abandon will get someone killed. Magi Relations:
Catriona, while not against them, doesn't really socialize if she can avoid it. That being said, almost every time that The Enchantress walks by, Catriona's eyes tend to linger longer than she'd like to admit. Calous on the other hand, she would love nothing more than to knock to some sense into the womanizing maggot. Clergy Relations:
Like all the Knights, the member of the Clergy Catriona deals with the most is Cleric Ashton. But given her more pious upbringing, she always speaks with members of the Clergy with respect. Although it usually takes more effort to do so with Grand Inquisitor Hendrickson, she just can't stand how he deals with Commander Weinheidt. Squire Relations:
Of all the squires, Squire Nilson is the one Catriona most identifies with. His combat technique is fairly close to hers, fight smart not hard. Squire Mordred, another individual she'd love to slap the back of the head of. His arrogance just grates her the wrong way. Tracked Resources:
