Carriekazi. She was the girl who would risk anything. Leap a dirt bike off of the gym roof? Freshman year. Jam the lap bar on the roller coaster so she could stand up through the loop. Did that, got the video. She's broken just about every bone at some point and she's totaled more vehicles than most adults have owned. Luckily her dad owns the tow and junkyard and she put most of them together herself.

Despite her wild side, she was a pretty good student. Math and science came pretty easy to her, as did anything requiring working with her hands. She had to work harder on some of the other things, but she did welll enough to ensure her father didn't have reason to crack down on her. If she's getting good grades, then she must be doing fine. He lets her live in an RV on the yard. He lives in the main building. Mother lives in Greystone prison for the next fifteen to twenty. Manslaughter is a b@###, and being bipolar is too.

While they were definitely from the wrong side of the tracks, the business makes good money. Definitely enough to pay the tuition. Dad put in the application for her to give her more options.

She was definitely voted "most likely to crash and burn." She's did that last summer. Lost a tire on a curved road and went off the cliff. She was trapped about halfway down. Her back was broken, she couldn't feel her legs. After two days, she couldn't handle it anymore. Nobody was going to find her. With her one working arm, she started grabbing things out of the back seat to tip it over and send all the way down. One last ride. She felt her skull crack on that one.

A couple hours later, she got up and pulled herself out. Any crash you would walk away from...

Only a little bit dead:

Here's what she's noticed since she's been back.
Resting heart rate: 35-40
Active heart rate: 35-40
She's always had a high pain tolerance. But since she's come back, pain doesn't hurt. There's none of the suffering and fear part. Without the panic part of that, she actually has a better idea of what the damage is. She can feel it without issues.
Her appettite has increased. She's always hungry. She burns through calories endlessly. Where it goes is a mystery because much less comes out than goes in.
She's more flexible. She stretches and bends more than she could before. Part of it is that she doesn't have pain to stop her. It's like being a cat.
Auntie Flo hasn't appeared since she died. She will not be missed.

secondary cast:

Mom - Maggie Broklawsky. Prisoner 3098659383859 at Greystone Prison for five years. Serving time for manslaughter. She killed the guy she was cheating with and his other lover. Carrie visits, but she tries to schedule it for good days. The drugs help, but not enough.

Dad - John Broklawsky. Runs Broklawsky Tow, Wrecking and Parts. It's a junkyard outside of town. Includes a small house, and an old RV that Carrie uses. Dad has never been the touchy-feely type. Losing his wife and becoming a sole parent was a bit much for him and he hasn't been good at it. Carrie always tried to make it easy on him, and he knows that. They don't do the traditional father/daughter thing, but it works for them.

Uncle Frank. Runs Broklawsky Auto Sales and Service. Uncle Frank sells used cars. He's less of a grump than Dad, but he's more flash than reliability.

Rufus. Rufus is the love of her life. He's big and black and she sleeps with him every night. He's her Rottweiler, the junkyard dog. He was a bit off for a couple days after she died, but he got used to the new version.

The Ring of an Unknown Dead Girl:

She had the ring since she was fourteen. She had found it in the junkyard, exploring through the cars for loose change and interesting things. The car was partially under a stack and she saw the ring trapped where the windshield hit the dashboard. It was a thick band with a crosshatch pattern in it - very cool.

The windshield was already spiderwebbed with cracks, and she knew how to pry it up to find things. As she pulled it up she smelled bleach. That wasn't uncommon with the cars that found their way here. They used it to clean up blood once they released the vehicle after an accident.

Looking up the plate, she saw the report. Father, mother and daughter all dead. The news story mentioned that they were travelling under fake identities. Nobody could figure out who they were.

There was no one to send the ring to. The ring of a dead girl. Were they spies? On the run from the mob? A travelling family of serial killers? At night she would spin out stories of who they might be. sometimes the ring felt colder than it should be. but that was just her imagination. Ghosts weren't real, after all.
