About Cara Shalandrael

History:

Born and raised in the elven homeland of Kyonin, Caraniel is descended from a long line of arcanists. Her parents expected and forced the same path on their daughter. The girl found sedentary mystic study boring for the most part, preferring to see the world and experience the stories of adventurers for herself. Despite her disinterest, the many years of study have given her a lasting intuitive understanding of magic.

Eventually she grew tired of her parent's expectations and ran away to discover her own path in life. Knowing that she would be quickly returned to her family if she stayed in Kyonin, she left the country and began wandering the Inner Sea region. In her travels she quickly picked up skills that enabled her to survive her vagabond lifestyle (learning how to use a bow effectively, tracking game, calming wild animals), which in time morphed into a Ranger's basic skill set. Humans were usually the primary danger she experienced in her travels in their lands, so she's learned how to combat them effectively.

Her wandering has currently lead her to Taldor, but she's considering making a trek up north soon since she hasn't explored that region yet. Although she has enjoyed living a solitary, nomadic lifestyle, she's begun to yearn for a more adventurous lifestyle with like-minded individuals.

Deadly Aim: You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all ranged attack rolls to gain a +2 bonus on all ranged damage rolls. When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every +4 thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2. You must choose to use this feat before making an attack roll and its effects last until your next turn. The bonus damage does not apply to touch attacks or effects that do not deal hit point damage. (5th level Feat)

Traits:
Restless Wayfarer: Running away from her home at an early age to discover the world, Cara has led a nomadic life. Some call it wanderlust, but to her the thought of new places and experiences is truly what makes life worth living, and no region catches her imagination like the windswept wilderness of the North. She is used to getting along in unfamiliar lands and interacting with interesting new people. Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (local) checks, and one of these skills [Knowledge (local)] is a class skill for you. You can also speak one additional language (this does not count toward your number of languages) [Language: Sylvan].[Reign of Winter Trait]

Magical Knack: Cara was raised partly by an Eidolon because her parents often left her in its care. This constant exposure to magic has made its mysteries easy for her to understand, even when she turns her mind to other devotions and tasks. Benefit: Pick a class when you gain this trait (Ranger)—your caster level in that class gains a +2 trait bonus as long as this bonus doesn’t raise your caster level above your current Hit Dice. Ranger Abilities:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:
A ranger is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Favored Enemy: Humanoid (human) +2, Fey +4
At 1st level, a ranger selects a creature type from the ranger favored enemies table. He gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of his selected type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. A ranger may make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures.

At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger may select an additional favored enemy. In addition, at each such interval, the bonus against any one favored enemy (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by +2.

Track (Ex):
A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow or identify tracks.

Wild Empathy (Ex):
A ranger can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.

To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.

The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a –4 penalty on the check.

Favored Terrain (Ex): Cold (ice, glaciers, snow, and tundra)
At 3rd level, a ranger may select a type of terrain from the Favored Terrains table. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Knowledge (geography), Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks when he is in this terrain. A ranger traveling through his favored terrain normally leaves no trail and cannot be tracked (though he may leave a trail if he so chooses).
