I'm good with the houserules, and I'm in favor of assaulting the tower. As for Grumblejack, he's an expendable meatshield who nevertheless should be kept for as long as possible in case of emergency.

Caprin quickly snatches a knife, then gets to work helping Kelvar gather food. He whispers to Kelvar, "Pardon my questioning, good man, but what exactly are we planning to do with the child? I doubt we are fully equipped to care for a kid, and I hear that children are particularly vulnerable to being killed in battle."

Caprin finishes helping Yzera put her armor on, and moves back to a slightly safer position. His face splits into a vibrant smile, and he flexes his fingers in anticipation.

"Excellent! I haven't had a chance to do this for ages!"

Caprin's eyes glitter at the inmate's descriptions of their powers. So much magic in such a small area! Truly, this is the best day ever. Except for the imprisonment and possible horrible death, of course.

"Well met, all! My name is Caprin, and through the wonders of fate and dumb luck I have arcane magic running through my veins. Through this blessing I have the ability to fire blasts of raw magic from my hands, give people armor of force, and create beams that weaken whatever they hit, along with various minor spells. I am also a fairly talented alchemist and surgeon, and I'm able to cause more pain to those I catch off guard. I can also brew some kinds of potions and can throw things really hard."

Caprin's eyes light up at Iscar's words. Oh, my! Things just got interesting. Caprin clears his throat and speaks. "To be perfectly honest, Father, I had every intention to attempt a suicidal prison break and go out in a blaze of glory. Caprin sat huddled in the corner of his cell, his arms at an odd angle to accommodate his manacles. The dim light of the cell, along with the shadowed forms of his cellmates, unnerved him greatly. Now, now, Caprin. Don't lose your head quite yet, he thought to himself. There'll be plenty of time for that in a few days.

His thoughts turned to his home, and how he got to his position. For all his intellect, he couldn't fathom how his relatively minor faux pas -Not a crime! Merely a blunder!- warranted being sent to Branderscar. No one had died, after all, and there was no rape or burglary involved whatsoever. Honestly! A few incisions and pinpricks is hardly worth making this big a fuss over.

Caprin started as one of his cellmates spoke up, a lithe and pale woman with black hair. "That is a very good question. I, for one, am definitely here. As, it seems, are you." Caprin tugged against his chains for what must have been the tenth time in the last half hour, unsurprised but still saddened by their sturdiness. "To be honest, I could think of several people who I'd rather be here than myself. The accommodations aren't to my liking." His arms itched, and once again he yearned to break free, to unleash the bolts of raw magic he so craved to let loose. Ye gods, I want to blast something SO BAD right now. Hell, I'd kill for a shot at the flimsiest cantrip I know.

Here are the gestalt rules, if you need them. Maybe you could try gestalting with rogue or investigator? It seems to fit your idea pretty well.


Hello, I would like to apply with this character. His stats and backstory are in the profile. I've submitted him to other games in the past, but it turns out gestalt is exactly what I needed to solidify his character as a mad surgeon/wizard type.

I didn't see anything wrong, but I've never had a very good eye for that sort of stuff. I think your decisions are fine, and your character well-made.

Would you mind taking a look at Valignatir, actually, and telling me what you think?

Seems like a good character to me. Stat-wise, he has a good mixture of offense and party support. Fluff-wise, I am and have always been a sucker for evil fire loving gnomes.

Plus, I just love that his occupation is 'arsonist'. I'm imagining a gnome giving someone a business card with 'arsonist' written on it, and grinning like a madman.

I probably should have asked before signing up for this, but are you okay with Words of Power? If not, I can make Caprin a standard spellcaster.


Alright, I'm up to date. I figured this was going to be an unorthodox mad science-magic type character, so I built him to reflect that. He's going to be focused mostly on debuffing and blasting, with a bit of summoning later.


I've got this guy I made a while ago, but I'll have to update his stats.

Here's my entry! I'd like to go for a skill-caster build, with the possibility of prestiging into Bloatmage.

Appearance:
Caprin is a fairly tall and slightly pudgy man with pale skin and hair. His eyes are a murky green color.
Backstory:

Ever since he was a little tyke, Caprin has been obsessed with all things magical. He dreamed of being a mighty wizard, but had no access to anything remotely magical in his tiny little village save the local bards. His parents worried for him as his obsession slowly grew more and more unsettling, lighting small creatures on fire to emulate fireballs and leaping off buildings to try and fly. Young Caprin began to grow more and more unstable as he grew up, bursting into fits at the mention of his name and staring into space for hours at a time.

At the age of sixteen, to his parent's and neighbor's shock and his great delight, he spat an unfamiliar word in a fit of anger and lit his bed on fire. On that day, as his sheets smoked around him, the young Caprin witnessed firsthand the wonder and power that magic held. He fell in love with it, and fled his home that night to go practice in the woods, setting bushes and squirrels on fire with gleeful abandon. He wouldn't return home for three days.

Upon his return, he set up a small laboratory in his parent's basement, and set himself to work unraveling the mysteries of his own powers and the strange words that came with them. His parents were glad to get him out of their hair, and felt happy that their child had found true happiness at last. The boy toiled mentally for the next few years, trying to figure out the basis of his magic and the source of his powers. Although he never came anywhere close to the truth, he was quite happy just sitting in the basement and contemplating.

Two weeks before his arrest, his family noticed an odd change in him; he had become suddenly talkative one day, and claimed to have had a philosophical breakthrough. He claimed to have had a vision of a world soaked in magic, where everyone had some sort of magical ability and everyone was content. He started talking to people more and making many friends in the town, and even got himself a girlfriend in the form of the innkeeper's daughter Mildred. Everything was looking up until Mildred went missing.

The entire town was terrified, and searched for her frantically. It wasn't until they heard a weak moan from Caprin's basement. They broke the lock on the latch and found Caprin sitting and looking frustrated, and a weak and starving Mildred chained to the wall, numerous crudely patched surgical scars and pinholes covering her frame. As Mildred would tell the town guard after they had detained him, Caprin had been subjecting her to numerous experiments and surgeries in an attempt to transfer some of his magic into her and make her "perfect". The decision of the town nobles was unanimous, and the detained Caprin was shipped off to Branderscar within days.

Personality:
Caprin has grown to be a high-functioning psycopath, and is quite fine with that result. He sees himself as a bringer of perfection, and wishes to bring magic to everyone, whether they want it or not. Oddly, despite his brutal nature and solitary childhood, he has become quite a people person during the last few weeks, and wants nothing more than to have a large circle of friends. And to forcefully make people sorcerers. His love of magic has given him a mild fixation with his own blood and the blood of sorcerers in general.

Motivation:
Caprin wants to make the world of his vision a reality, and the main part of that vision is a world full of sorcerers. He is willing to ally with anyone who may help his dream become reality, and he despises the current world. Anyone who stands in the way of his magical utopia (such as the church of Mitra) will earn his undying hate.
