Carnadine
Please don't remove the window yet. We may need to escape out an exterior wall.
Kelvar Mylan
Hold off on the window. Let's focus on the bottleneck for now.
Once my armor is on (Round 13) I'm going to move to the door and get ready for the guards to move in.
DM HolyWater
Round 13
Right then the noise becomes louder and the barking turns into two dogs on leashes (if one is looking through the vision slot on the door) coming up the stairs followed by two pairs of guards with longswords and shields ready.
If you want to be somewhere specific you can use round 14 to get there and please move yourself there on the map.
Round 14
Kelvar has donned armour with Kaath's help.
Yzera donning chain shirt with Caprin's help (2/10)
Carnadine & Rosemary grab clubs and unwrap leather.
Red receives a dagger.
Iscar removes patches. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 1 unknown potion. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 1 potion of Cure Light Wounds, a 50ft. length of rope. (the rest next round)
Rodgers waits.
Kord waits.
Grumblejack hears the noise and moves towards the door grinning, excited to get a chance to hit back against his captors. "Grumblejack smash them."
The guards lead to dogs to the door. Barking, they can smell it. "open the door. Peter? Orwald? You guys in there?" Fearing the worse the guards ready their longswords and one steps up to open the door. "It's jammed." He peers through the peephole. "They're dead! All the prisoners are free," he shouts as he sees you all including grumblejack.
"Break the lock. They're holed up and can't go anywhere. Time to put these criminals down. If Blackerly hurries up he might get to kill one himself."
Round 15
Yzera donning chain shirt with Caprin's help (4/10)
Kaath the Bastard
assuming there's a loose bit of chains
Kaath grabs his component pouch and then two lengths of chains. He wraps them tightly around his fists and gets ready to brawl.
Captian Woodes Rodgers
Woodes strolls over casually to the arm that Grumblejack is holding and he regards it curiously for a second. Then he quickly takes a bite of the meat, but just as quickly spits it out. Gagging and coughing, he says to Grumblejack, "Yeah, you know what Lad? I think I'll let you doing the eating of the blue shirts. I'm just gonna stab 'em." Still gagging, he moves back into position right as he hears the guards talking. He yells at them "Well you'd better hurry in then! If this bloak Blackerly is coming, I want to have a fresh set of armor to to coat with his blood!"
Kelvar Mylan
Armored in the chain shirt, Kelvar strides towards the door, preparing for the guards to come and try to kill them. Holding his dagger in a reverse grip, he grins, and makes a swift prayer to Asmodeus. Lord of Darkness, guide my hands and let me send these Mitran souls to you.
Kord, The iron Serpant
Kord readies an attack to grapple the first guy who walks in. I want to wait until I'm NOT attacking around a hard corner.
Carnadine
For want of something productive to do, Carnadine scours the cell block for any unknown magic.
Detect Magic

Carnadine Spellcraft DC 16: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Carnadine Spellcraft DC 16: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
The guard slams the hilt of his sword into the lock hoping to break the catch. Over and over again. The dogs growl. Grumblejack pick up the guard at his feet and hefts him onto his shoulder. Iscar finds a fully stocked lamp that is lit once he pulls it from the veil, he then pulls at the gold patch and it turns into many(100) gold pieces in another pouch. All that remains is the window. Carnadine detects nothing except for the Veil(moderate transmutation aura) and the potions(faint transmutation and conjuration).
Grumblejack toss: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The lock finally gives way and snaps, the door opens and the dogs are released. Grumblejack tosses the body through the door and into the first guard, causing him to stumble backward. The dogs charge in working together on the biggest threat.
Grumblejack AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Dog 1 attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Dog 2 attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Kord Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Guard attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Guard 3 moves to attack grumblejack but is pulled into the embrace of Kord and instead he attempts to strike Kord but cannot get his arm into a good position.
Guard attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 18damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
A further guard charges in and strikes Kord to help his ally, scoring a hit.
Round 1
All of you are up. Yzera and Caprin are finishing donning the armour and can join combat in round 2.
Kelvar Mylan
Kelvar grinned at the guard struggling in Kord's grip, studied his movements, then lashed out with his dagger.
Move action: Studied Target
Standard Action: Power Attack Guard 3
Attack Modifiers: +1 Base Atk + 4 Strength - 1 Power Attack +2 Flanking +1 Studied Target
Power Attack on Guard 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d4 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Carnadine
Carnadine watches from the back letting his new large friend and armored prisoners take their revenge. Without armor, he remains in the tactical reserve.
Kord, The iron Serpant
Would I have gotten an AOO on the dog as it moved past me? you can still take AOOs when you have a readied action RAW, or was I flat footed? Do i have any idea why grumblejack is attacking me? also guard 4 is attacking around a hard corner so I have Cover (+4 AC) making my AC against guard4 20, thus his attack misses me.
Possible AOO Unarmed strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 121d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
What a dumb little dog you are grumblejack
"Grublejack I'm holding the blue shirt down for you, NOW SMASH HIM!"
Standard action: Continue grapple and pin
Grapple check: 1d20 + 7 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 5 = 15
Yzera Hykeph
|
Yzera struggles to get the chain shirt over her head. As soon as it is finished, she charges into the fray with her sword.
Effectively holding until she can act in round 2.
Kaath the Bastard
Grinning as the dogs burst through the way, Kaath falls in line behind Caprin while slamming his chained fists together.
"Here we go! Let's teach these Talirean cowards a lesson!"
He lets out a roar and his fists take on a deep purple glow.
Move, Activate Unholy Strike Blessing
Captian Woodes Rodgers
Can't I get an AoO on Dog 2?
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Woodes looks a little bored, Dogs? I haven't killed dogs since I was a boy. Nonetheless he strikes, quick as a viper, at the dog, aiming for its heart.
DM HolyWater
If you hadn't moved in combat yet I don't think you can take attacks of opportunity
With a severe dagger wound the second dog tries to flee, withdrawing from the fight. Grumblejack follows the wounded dog with a blow from his fist and it collapses dying before it could escape at Kelvar's feet.
Grumblejack AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
dog 1 AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Grumblejack attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Grumblejack then turns his attention to the other mutt and clobbers it hard enough that it too whimpers at the pain and tries to flee, withdrawing from the battle. AoO from Kelvar?
The chaos of the battle encompasses all. Grumblejacks bellow and others battle chants.
Struggle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
The pinned guard(AC 12) struggles to escape from Kord's grip and almost succeeds but the attack from Kelvar has left him almost mortally wounded and he remains pinned.
The guards rally and one slips in behind Kelvar. AoO from Kelvar?
Guard 5 attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12
The guard behind Kelvar attacks but only hits the stolen armour.
Guard 4 attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
Guard 4 again tries to help his pinned friend but the corner proves a foe, his weapon not going anywhere near Kord.
Guard 6 moves in towards grumblejack deciding the beast has had his time. AoO from Kelvar? 3 opportunities but can only take 1 obviously
Guard 6 attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
He attacks and his sword slices grumblejacks side leaving the ogre roaring in pain and looking very close to falling over.
Round 2
All pc's go
Caprin Seylin
Caprin finishes helping Yzera put her armor on, and moves back to a slightly safer position. His face splits into a vibrant smile, and he flexes his fingers in anticipation.
"Excellent! I haven't had a chance to do this for ages!"
He lets loose a beam of purple energy from his hands at Guard 3.
Arcane Bolt ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
On the off chance that it connects... Arcane Bolt damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Kelvar Mylan
Choices, choices...I think we'll take the AoO on Guard 5, I don't like where he is.
AoO on Guard 5: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
As the guard slipped behind him, Kelvar turned his attention to him, taking a swipe as he passed. Watching the guard's movements, he carefully studied him, then struck again.
Free action: Drop Studied Target from Guard 3.
Move action: Studied Target on Guard 5.
Standard action: Power Attack Guard 5.
Power Attack on Guard 5: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d4 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Yzera Hykeph
|
Finally armored and armed, Yzera steps forward drawing her blade as she does. She than slams the blade down on the guard between herself and Kord.
Attack-longsword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26 <-- +4 Str, +1 BAB, +2 flanking
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The blow lands drawing a substantial amount of blood, but just misses a vital artery.
Foolish guards. He Who Walks In Blood shall bless my blade and leave you all with your lifeblood flowing freely.
Kaath the Bastard
Kaath grows impatient and lets out an exasperated sigh as he carefully runs by Grumblejack and dips by Rogers, blocking the Captain from the guard. Carrying his momentum, Kaath leaps up and strikes at the wounded and preoccupied guard 5 with a flying knee to the back.
Unholy Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Confirmation: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
...uhm...did that just happen? S-seriously???
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Crit Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Unholy Strike Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Total Damage: 19
Is the board broken or something? I can't believe those rolls came up like that.
Yzera Hykeph
|
Kaath - you also get your strength and other bonuses on the crit damage. Pretty much all that you don't multiply is precision damage (sneak damage for instance), and other damage which expressly says that it is not multiplied (flaming weapons for instance).
Pretty sure that you should have rolled the Unholy Strike damage twice as well as it is not defined as precision and does not say that it is not multiplied on a crit.
Thus, you should have done 24 damage, not 19, plus another 1d6 of Unholy Smite damage. Although I doubt it really matters other than how far the blood will splatter.
Carnadine
Seeing the battle going the way of the prisoners, Carnadine steps forward and into the open cell door. Then, he calmly suggests, "If anyone has the power to heal, I would recommend curing our large friend. He looks ready to fall over. Also, pass the dead guards back, so we can start stripping their armor."
Kelvar Mylan
I've already acted this round, but I can get to him next round, assuming the two guys next to me get dropped this round. One of the potions from the veil may be a healing potion, too, so you may be able to use that to help him as well.
DM HolyWater
Kelvar's attacks miss and the guard is about to strike him through when a blow from Kaath snaps his back and he gasps, falling over silently. Kord continues to hold onto the guard in his arms and squeezes him tighter breaking his neck.
Kord unarmed dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
He goes limp. Seeing two of their fellow guardsmen downed and overwhelmed by the prisoners the other two try to flee the battle.
Grumblejack AoO: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24 dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
One wounded from Yzera stumbles over his fallen friend and Grumblejack seizes the chance and thumps him over the head making him lose consciousness and fall over his friend. This last effort also sends Grumblejack to the floor. The last remaining guard flees out the room and begins running down the stairs.
Grumblejack stabilise: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Round 3
Victory? Or chase?
Kelvar Mylan
Seeing their new ally fall down, Kelvar uttered a prayer to Asmodeus.
"Lord of Darkness, though you have blessed us in battle, our ally has fallen. If he yet breathe, and if you yet have plans for him, grant him the strength to continue."
He then called forth divine power and, with a touch, sent it pulsing through Grumblejack.
Casting Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Afterwards, he gets up and says, "We need to make sure their dead and start removing their armor, unless anyone wishes to give chase. Hurry, before more guards come."
Standard action: Cast Cure Light Wounds on Grumblejack.
Move action: Being stripping Guard 5's armor.
EDIT: Well, at least he's up and stable.
Yzera Hykeph
|
Yzera takes off after the fleeing guard.
Don't let the fool get away or we will have the whole troop after us.
Double-move to get next to the guard and attempt to forestall him fleeing further.
Having seen how incompetent the guards tend to be, she ignores the chance of getting hit so as to keep him from getting away.
--> Her movement likely draws an AoO.
--> She double moved - 60'. If you consider moving down stairs to be difficult terrain, then she ends 2 squares farther up and does not draw an AoO.
Kaath the Bastard
Seeing Yzera take off, Kaath follows suit.
"Leave that to the others, Kelvar! The fight isn't over!"
Double Move
Carnadine
Carnadine grabs a guard and starts stripping his armor.
DM HolyWater
I thought about the stairs being difficult terrain but they are not steep just normal stairs.
Also, clearly stated on the map 'the arrows lead down' so atm Yzera is placed at the top of the stairs. What I will let you try is drop down to block him off(where Kaath is placed atm) if you can make a Acrobatics DC 15 (no take 10). Either way he will retreat again so roll an AoO.
Grumblejack opens his eyes, "Me not dead? Battle won. Blue shirts dead!" He stands up.
Carnadine
Carnadine replies to Grumblejack, "Welcome back, our large friend. The blue-shirts ran away. There are many more."
Yzera Hykeph
|
Yzera would have also jumped down if she can, or run down the steps. If they are not difficult terrain, she can get past the guard to partially block his retreat, or completely block it if the Kaath jumps down next to her.
If needed:
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Let me know where Yzera is so that she can make any necessary AoO.
Also, don't forget that Kaath can make a trip or grapple as an AoO should he wish I believe.
DM HolyWater
Bloodrage can not be activated if it isn't your turn I believe
Unfortunately the guard slips away and he disappears through the door not far from the bottom of the stairs and runs down the hall.
map
You see no one else in sight but he is clearly running towards the end of the hall and the double doors that would presumably lead to the outside. Upstairs grumblejack roars his victory and joy at killing more of the guards.
Yzera Hykeph
|
Was the door unlocked and already open? If not, I would assume at least a move action to open the door.
Yzera continues to chase after the guard.
If possible - Charge:
Attack-charge: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 <-- 2 handed with longsword
If this cannot be done, then she will move adjacent to him to force an AoO when he moves.
EDIT - now that I see the map, a charge is not possible. Yzera will move next to the guard, to force an AoO when he moves away. Hopefully Kaath moves to the other side. This movement will provoke an AoO from the guard when Yzera moves next to him.
Please use the above roll, without the +2 for the charge, for the AoO.
Kaath the Bastard
Kaath rages and then runs after the guard and flanks him along with Yzera if possible. He will then attempt another grapple check
Grapple: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12.
welp I guess that evens out the two twenties earlier. If he does end up drawing another AoO, I will go with another grapple.
