Cainbar was a member of the Golka clan having served the family for many years. He had been recruited to help guide an expedition from house Garess into the mountains on an expedition to teach the young noble Yolann Garess on the finer traits of dwarven engineering. It was during this expedition that the now famous vanishing occurred. Upon returning to find most his clan had disappeared, Cainbar went on a desperate and foolish journey into the mountains for five years. During this time he turned to Torag to help guide him through the many perils of the deep tunnels. He learned how to guide his deadly dorn dergar to act as stone and vowed to spread Torag's beliefs wherever he could. After accepting the fate of his clan, he returned to house Garess where Yolann asked him to serve as his bodyguard and advisor. Agreeing, Cainbar found purpose with his life again.
While in service, Cainbar met Sverlisk Sssskirssk, or as Cainbar would say "The super smelly, stinky, sticky, sickening son of a sobbing skunk. That's what all those S's stand for don't ye know." Despite initial differences Cainbar and the nagaji became friends. Five years later, Cainbar joined with Sverlisk on an envoy mission to retrieve Abigail Lebeda a cousin of the ruling family of house Labeda to marry Sir Yolann Garess. It was on this mission that the caravan was beset on by a marauding band of centaurs. While Sverlisk and Cainbar fought bravely the enemy was able to capture and presumably kill Lady Labeda. The duo did manage to kill a few of the centaurs and much to their surprise, the coins that fell out of the coin purse were set on with the seal of house Surtova. Cainbar full of righteous fury returned with the news but the nobles distrust of the foreign Nagaji, made them hold the evidence in thin light. Eventually it was decided that Cainbar and Sverlisk were to blame for the attack and had tried to profit from the event. Yolann helped Cainbar sneak out of the city and told him about the call for explorers to the south. He vowed to try and clear Cainbar's name in the meantime, but urged him to stay clear until the full truth could be revealed. Dismayed Cainbar set out only to be surprised by the Nagaji and Yolann's younger half-brother. Sverlisk had made it out somehow as well. Cainbar decided enough with Brevoy, it was time for him with Torag's blessing to set out and start anew. Apparently Yolann wanted his brother to join Cainbar on this trek. While apprehensive about the youth's ability to stomach the frontier, Cainbar wouldn't question his friend.
