About Cada
There is a certain way that death walks. It isn’t smooth; it isn’t gaited in the way you hear your mother walk across your home. The sound of bone or rotten flesh as it drags itself across the ground it something you do not easily forget nor is it something no one is my tribe ever will. The sound of bones walking across ground, dragging their lifeless corpses across our land: all looking to claim more for their army.
Cada, stay here.
His voice is so strong as his hand pushes down on me slightly. I wanted to run away. I had never seen the dead before now and I was sure I never wanted to see them again. He could see the fear in my eyes as he only laughed as he picked up his large earth breaker.
We do not run from death Cada. We show it the way out.
We. My tribe. My people. Who I am. What I am. I am Cada of the Skoan-Quah tribe. We fight death. We put the dead back in their rightful place. We do not run. We do not hide.
But we apparently do not stay still for long.
Each season is a cause for movement. We never settle. You learn more about the land that way. You see more. You build yourself up. Walking. Carrying all your belonging. But it also creates desires inside of your soul that you don’t know how to explain. At least it did in me.
I wanted to see the world. I wanted to see what was beyond our lands.
My dad didn’t like it.
We stick together.
We do not separate.
We do not run.
I knew what I had to do.
They say my mother was a courageous, feared nothing, and did what her heart wanted. My dad often told me stories how she would refuse to back down from a fight, even when she was with child. She was fearless and did what she wanted.
I needed to be my mother. I needed to be fearless.
So I ran.
I ran away from my family. I ran away from my tribe. I ran away from our lands. I ran until I couldn’t run any further. I ran until I found Magnimar.
It turned out I was not the only Shoanti who had left, even others from my tribe were in this city. All felt the same pull I did, the need to explore, the need to see what was beyond what we knew.
Pathfinder Society they whispered in passing.
A way to see the lands while making money in the process to live off of. I knew I needed to earn money but I also knew I needed to understand what was around me.
Who am I? What am I?
I am Cada, only daughter of Zakok, Bringer of Death to the Undead.
I do not run.
I will not hide.
