Wow
nice nutshell
Just bought the whole line.....
I have a clture in my campaign world called the "Imperium"
based on the roman empire theme...with a twist of the D&D on top.
They are the power house of the south and for the last 20 yeas of gaming been the mysterious empire of the south since majority of gaming takes place in the north in a Scandinavian setting mixed with Anglo Saxon themes....so the old out post has been came upon, trading to the northern provinces of the imperum.....but really no skirmishes or adventures have happened. The only really news is the northern empire of the the elves called the Banast Tiaga....has been at war with the Imperium since anyone can remember.....but it has been a war of words, treachery and espionage.
Again over the years the PC's have wanted no dealings with this Imperium or the Elves. Until a large Pc group of mercenaries came across a temple runs and a ancient dragon in the abandoned province of the imperium. They actually didn't kill the dragon....they found the fable wonder of wonder and in a last stand on PC used it and turned the dragon to stone.
Thus started a new era...the adventures renovated the temple...to a might fortress and open up trade and a presence in this end of the road land....it was the middle stone to the Imperium lands.
After a few years.....the local governor...was installed by the Imperium...and that's when the politics got hot....they were to pay taxes, levy men and resources for the Imperium.....and got the right as citizens and protection. The PC's said stuff it being northern freemen and warriors of renown. Thus the a large battle took place for control of the land and environs.....the PC had hired troops and merc from the north and brought them in by a northern road....when the governor and his legion showed up to put down this rebel warlord...they were ambushed and crushed...by a larger and more ruthless force.
Seeing that the capital of the provice could be next...and the lush farm lands and ore mines lost....the Imperium sot a peace treaty and allowed this upstart warlord to keep the lands.....but be the frontier force of the northern provinces. which has lasted swvweral decades.
Unknown to all the surviving PC found a relic of the Iron Throne Simulacrum...a possible key and right to the Iron throne of the Imperium......and all that treasure...to boot.
As a good gesture the PC shipped the Ancient Dragon statue ( polished, painted and cloaked in a anti-magic spell to the Imperium court as a gift and tribute to all as a reminder of the treaty of Barrier/Rann. You see the irony here....if trouble should brew...the PC's were going have a nice ace up their sleeve and send a high level wizard to the Imperium court gardens and unleash this dragon in the Imperium capital.
Now the Imperium is about to go into civil strife/war...
so looking for great story arcs...material....fodder...to save me time and get the ball bouncing......Have potential PC's that maybe heading that way....now that a few have major trading houses in the north.
and small armies.....but again the relation ship with Castle barrier and the Imperium has not been rosey...from the beginning....and Old PC still want to unleash Hell on the capital....others want to just let it fracture...then see what spoils will be available to expand castle barriers environs
the Imperium is a place were all riches, magic, cultures, influences and technology has been brought.....that could be a bad thing if it wrath is focused or the power in mad senators hands....the conundrum
so here hoping to mine the shit out of the cursed empire setting.....maybe even just drop it in with a few twists
