Male Aasimar (Scion of Humanity) Oracle 1 (>Zen Archer Monk)
Here is the basic concept for my character. I'm pretty sure he would not be very effective until at least level three, but that is partially due to the concept, which is... He is a ranged martial character built with high mental stats, mostly WIS and CHA. It started out as arguably a bit of min/maxing to cut back on some of his MADness, but the concept was born out of reconciling and tweaking his background to reflect these choices. He is physically disabled (and the reason is flexible depending on story-related background info), but through training, has learned to overcome his disability and to even excel at skills and activities he should not be able to accomplish. He is primarily a Zen Archer Monk (maybe Qing Gong or Unchained where possible), as a gestalt character, his other side would be made up of Oracle at first level with the curse of Lameness. DEX is the dump stat at a 7 or 8 to reflect this. He would also have levels of Paladin, and Inquisitor and maybe Ninja or Ranger. Many of these dips aid in shifting DEX related options to WIS or CHA. I would love to figure out a way to make a Zen Archer Champion of Enlightened, but it requires Still Mind which ZAM trades away for Point Blank Master as a bonus feat.
I've been a long time lurker on these boards and only threw my hat in the ring for one other campaign previously, that was Carrion Crown. I'd be interested in giving this a go again. Please check out the character under this profile and see what you think. In short, he would likely be Zen Archer Monk on one side and a mix of other classes on the other. Are you holding hard and fast to starting at level one? The concept for this character is, in the broadest sense, overcoming a disability through training and will power (crunch and feats), so he will surely be at a disadvantage until at least level 3. It's been a long times since I've put much thought into it, but if you are interested, I could work on it some and get it ready under your parameters. The stats are high, but it is a 25 point buy with the Spell-like Ability swapped out for +2 CHA. This was in keeping with the Scion of Humanity racial trait (which I recognize that you've disallowed), but I hope it can be up for discussion at least. If you are interested, you can look through my short list of posts for this character to see my writing style, specifically in Warm Tarven by the Road. It was a busy room and I didn't get much interaction, but my first post picks up where my Campaign Hook from my profile leaves off.

I think Aasimar will solve both of these this issues nicely. Firstly, the Aasimar race has a trait called Enlightened Warrior that allows you to take Monk levels with a NG or N alignment. I used it to combine Zen Archer with Serene Barbarian for my PC (though arguably, the alignment for this 3rd party class should have been changed to any non-chaotic at the least). This lets you start with your Savage Tactician if you want to, or continue to take Monk levels after you retrain if you want. If you need to keep your other two traits, find a drawback that doesn't nerf you in battle. Most DMs allow a third trait along with the addition of a drawback. Secondly, an Aasimar doesn't have to be human, it can be any sub race. If you are a Half-Orc Aasimar and take the Half-Orc equivalent to the Scion of Humanity (Scion of Half-Orcery?) alternate racial trait. With this you count as an Outsider, Human, and Orc for any effects related to race. Who wouldn't want metallic tusks? This gets you half-way there and doesn't fix your mount not being Orcish according to RAW, but this seems like a pretty plausible pass from your DM, especially if you select a mount that would be typical for Orcs, like maybe a Worg. If that doesn't fly, you can still make it happen with Solo Tactics from Inquisitor 3 or with Hunter Tactics from Hunter 3. It depends on how bad you want it I guess. Even if that doesn't work out, Aasimar also gives you lots of other goodness to play with like variant heritage options to get closer to the attribute bonuses you actually want and if your DM is cool with it, you can swap out your (typically lame) SLA for a shot at the list of variant abilities. There are a lot of cool ones available if you roll well, or if your DM is especially benevolent, perhaps he/she will simply allow you to choose the +2 to your favorite attribute option from the list. The only other option I know of to get the Orc subtype without being an Orc is to take a level of Sorcerer with an Orc bloodline, but you'd have to do a lot of dancing with that class to get any other utility out of it. Probably cross-blooded with Empereal and go Tattooed while you're at it for a familiar that gives you +4 initiative. At least you'd get access to Gravity Bow and Abundant Ammunition.

I've been kind of itching to get this guy into a campaign. Made for Carrion Crown, but really open to anything that won't require a total rework. Would prefer to start at level 5+ or gestalt. Made with 25 point buy to be a "big, gosh-darn, hero". Listed on the spreadsheet under CC and Any. Looks like not very many people get chosen though...
This is a really interesting character I created for the Carrion Crown AP. It has most of what you are asking for, though I haven't had a chance to tweak him for your requirements. With a high number of quality submissions, I don't really expect to be chosen, but I'd welcome any feedback and if Kye is someone you're interested in, I'd be happy to discuss. Also, I haven't played in a PBP game yet, but I've been through a number of recruitments. I should be able to post once per day with little issue.
Wandering Messanger wrote: I can think of two off the top of my head that don't, and personally, I like both of them. Their from Core. Arcane Archer and Assassin. Look 'em up. Arcane Archer is nice, but it requires several bow feats plus the ability to cast first level arcane spells. Every build I've seen for them includes mostly martial classes with a level of Sorcerer most of the time, sometimes Bard or Wizard. I suppose you could do it with martial on one side and caster on the other of this gestalt build, but that might be forcing a build you don't want. No complaints... the restriction just seems to make prestige classes more difficult.
So, I guess this character won't work as written. He was built to multiclass into at least four different classes. I will have to build a new one which will likely be similar. I'd most likely go Zen Archer Monk/Inquisitor and I'd like to be an Aasimar/Natural Lycanthrope (Panther). I toyed with Zam/Ninja, but I think I could make this guy very ninja-like but have the benefit of spells. He would fight in hybrid form by default and likely be very powerful, but being Mythic would make a huge difference for him, at least for my concept. I also had an idea to make something of a partnership like the old movie Lady Hawk. I'd take the Leadership feat (once I reach the appropriate level) and have a healing/buffing druid as my cohort. The idea is to assume animal form (lycanthropy) during the day and disguise myself as the druid's animal companion. Perhaps she could carry my bow and be somewhat disguised herself a ranger or tracker. I'd probably need the Calling ability on my bow for this to be effective.
I created this character for Carrion Crown. I think a one PC adventure could be very interesting. Much fewer parts of the machine to break down. I could convert him to Gestalt and would be happy to reroll stats. He is going to be primarily a Zen Archer Monk, but I have several ideas for other class dips, especially for Gestalt. Since this PC is going to be adventuring alone, how would you feel about also allowing it to be Mythic? What level are you starting at and what races/templates are you allowing?
I've got a pretty 'fluffy' Oracle headed to Zen Archer that is very much a supporting role PC. He could be the Knowledge guy and the back-up skill monkey and would be rather unaccommodating to undead, at least by level 6 or 7 which I understand might be sometime during the next presidency... Regardless, color me anxious.

I've been lurking on Carrion Crown boards lately. I made this character for CC and just missed out on a couple different games now. I'm available and would love to join if one of you moves to GM and you need a player. Take a look at my profile and see if you're interested. Thanks.

My sincere thanks Master Dwarf. I'll accept your challenge. Kye moves to the seat across from Hotrek and makes ready to arm wrestle. First attempt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Second attempt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Third attempt: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The dice gods saw me cheat I guess.

Kye flushes and tries to maintain his smile as he takes his seat. What in the world could I have said? Begging your pardon, please! I missed a day or two of Dwarvish lessons. That and I'm somewhat of an idiot. I will constrain myself to the common tongue. Please forgive me. He appreciated the dwarfs laughter in lieu of what it might have been instead. My tale is a humble one, but speaks very well of the good professor. Brother Kye's tale: I'm short on time, so here is my profile page with my backstory. Brother Kye
Male Aasimar (Scion of Humanity) Oracle 1 (>Zen Archer Monk)
Kye quickly ate his meal and listened to the stories of Professor Lorrimor from those all around him. It suddenly occurred to him that being this close to the Shudderwood, he may be able to find news of his father and perhaps even see him. It had been so long, and this is where it all began all those years ago, Lorrimor and my father traipsing through the Shudderwood together. Life was so different then. Allowing those memories to fade back into his mind, he girded himself and entertained the first thought of remounting the earth since he'd come through the door several minutes ago. For Lorrimor he mumbled to himself as he stood and turned to face the small crowd. Good patrons, and fellow travelers! My good friends, as it seems, and fine looking women... and men... fine, stout looking bunch... Gather your wits you idiot! Yes... if I may, it seems we are all here for the same purpose, as demonstrated several times this fine evening, but I would be remiss if I didn't offer my own thanks to a man who was as much like family to me as any, and to do so in a way befitting the scholar he was. He reached into a pocket of his robe and retrieved a small book raising it high in the air. To Lorrimor, who once told me that "True greatness can never be achieved without the cultivation of knowledge." It would seem that he lent his hand to more than one plow here and spread his seed far and wide throughout Ustalav... of course, not exactly his seed... oh dear, I mean... his love! He spread love... to everyone, well not love exactly. This is... rather embarrassing. He paused briefly in an attempt to regain his composure, looked at the floor, and took a deep breath. I dare say there is not one here who isn't so much the better for having been known by him... for having known him. To Lorrimor. He had hoped to make eye contact with several of the less intoxicated in the crowd, but know couldn't bring himself to find the gaze of anything but the reflection of the confused barkeeper in the window. He turned slowly back to the bar. I may never speak again. If I may, good sir, please convey my great satisfaction to the lovely lady who prepared my meal. Might you have a bed remaining? Kye notices several references to Professor Lorrimor floating about the room. Could these people all be here for the good professor's funeral? Not many seem to be travelling companions. If there are this many strangers in a tavern that knew him, his funeral had better be held outdoors. He smiled innocently at Borden, choosing not to defend his fondness for milk to a human shaped tankard and stole a glance or two at the loveliness of the ladies around the room, especially that golden haired... Wait! That's definitely a man. Looking back at Borden, You seem like a benevolent fellow, could I buy you some bread? Perhaps it will soak up some of your charm.

Kye lifts his head to see find the scruffy looking man speaking to him, presumably, while his attention is fixed on the wispy slip of a... most beautiful of creations surely these eyes have| Wicked flesh! Snapping his head back to his new friend. Be content with your merciful perch and warm milk. Please say there's warm milk. Um... my thanks to you kind (and somewhat attentive) sir, but my lower extremities seem to have adhered themselves to this most pleasant bench, and you may still have need of your own. He reaches out a hand to steady the overeager emcee. I assure you, my friend, the calf's liqueur is all the intoxication I seek this evening. Nodding again to the barkeep. Or that of the kid, if you please my good friend.

My feet are killing me… Kye limped along looking earnestly at a tree stump only a bow shot from the door of the inn, now within sight. Don’t even think about it lazy bones, you’re almost there. He stopped, finally only one step from the door, pointed his face toward the sky, closed his eyes, and breathed out a long sigh through his nose. I don’t know which I need more, a meal or a bed, but either way, I’ll be off this thorn in the flesh. Thank you for humbling me… He set a weary hand against the door and pushed it open. Willing himself up the one step through the door, he paused briefly to close it behind him. As he lowered his hood revealing his sweaty, bald head and attractive human face, he couldn’t help but notice the variety of persons that comprised the small crowd in front of him, especially the brightly colored quaffs that reminded him instantly of his mother. No sooner had that thought crossed his mind than it was snatched away from him by the annoying tug of his hood, hung up on the upper limb of his bow. Will I ever get used to this thing? It had only been within the past few hours that he had finally managed to notice something other than it’s string wearing a groove into his chest. His thoughts drifted again toward the odd collection of patrons filling the room before him. Not since his brief visit in Absolom had he seen such a conglomeration of… what was it? Hues… so many different hues. Kye had grown up in Ustalav, and it had been a while since he had stepped foot here, the several thousand footsteps today not withstanding, but something was different about this collection of souls. ’Souls’… my own inward voice takes the timbre of the master now. A shock of red hair caught his attention again. Flowing locks of gold, white, and crimson, like my mother’s indeed. Like my own if I permitted it to live. The vibrant prism of sun-shrouded hues now turned, one by one, to fix their gaze on the silent, robed gawker now standing in front of the door. This is awkward. Did that dwarf just reach for his axe? Perhaps I should move now. An uncomfortable, tight-lipped grimace of a grin happened on his face and his right hand made an attempt at a wave that ended in the familiar adjustment of his bow string as his feet remembered to resume their painful trudge toward the bar. It felt as though his legs were swollen kegs of mead whose newly opened taps poured their contents on the floor as he came to rest, at last, on a stool next to… Next to what? What was under that odd shaped mask? Come to think of it, the shape of the whole person was odd. Honestly, I don’t care. If it takes my life, I will die at rest. Good bar keep, many festivals have passed since I’ve been as happy to meet someone as I am you in this moment. Please forgive the imposition, but might you have some portion of beast at the ready and perhaps some warm milk? Warm milk would be… quite… a blessing, to your lame and humble servant. OH, and perhaps a good leg? Greetings everyone. I've been lurking long enough! I hope this makes up for it a little bit. :) |
