Thanks, everyone :=) I appreciate you all and your kind words very much. Kinda made my day :=)

With apologies, I'm going to withdraw from this game.

The group is awesome and the GMing is excellent, but I've got too much going on in RL and the depression is becoming a bigger challenge. Unfortunately, PbP gaming has started to feel more like one more burden that is draining my energy instead of being a joy that builds the energy, so I feel like I need to step away for my own health and sanity.

Best of luck to the party moving forward.

"Bad choice, lady," Brodigan mutters as he steps towards Becky and unleashes a blast of force at the Grindylow guard. Gotta keep the kids safe, he thinks to himself.

Force Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Brodigan is seeing his delighted dreams of having a Grindylow student or three in his arcane academy being a delightfully unique draw for enrollment slip away and simply sighs.

"Would have been nice if an alliance could have been made, though," he says to the group, "as their knowledge of the island and its threats as well as resources could have proven beneficial."

He then looks at the interpreters in the group and says, "Do we think it's worth it to at least ask if she thinks there can be an alliance, or at least an understanding, between our groups?"

"She said they're not responsible, but that doesn't mean they don't know what happened to them. Ask more directly what happened to the original settlers, perhaps?" Brodigan suggests, not knowing for sure what has or hasn't been asked.

Brodigan comes walking up behind his apprentice, sees the strange hand sculpture as well as the fancily-dressed Grindylow moving in response to their arrival and mutters, "I guess she knows we're here." He then throws on his best smile and calls out, "Greetings, your majesty. We come on behalf of the land dwellers Some of your people were...less than welcoming. Perhaps you'd be interested in actually talking?"

If she doesn't seem to understand his words, he'll ask whoever speaks Aquan to translate.

Brodigan moves in and smiles as he mutters some arcane words and flings a blast of force at a Grindylow green if up or red if not.

"We need more light up here" Brodigan whispers loudly enough for the group to hear, but hoping the Grindylows can't on the off chance that they can understand him.

Readied action to cast Acid Splash at one as soon as he has enough light to see.

Acid Splash vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 4 = 91d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Taking the -4 penalty since the frontliners will give the Grindylows cover.

Brodigan moves up just behind his apprentice and mutters, "Let's see how good my aim is," and incants some arcane words before flicking his wrist forward to release a burst of acid at the nearest grindylow teal.

Acid Splach vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 4 - 4 = 161d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

-4 for cover and -4 for in combat

"Ah, I see you brought a friend along," Brodigan comments as Mauro summons the skeleton. "The more the merrier," he says, then adds, "particularly, the more between me and an enemy the merrier," and gives Mauro a wink.

Also a fan of east.

Brodigan, who doesn't carry much gear, has very little to leave on the ship, so he stands waiting patiently in a casually heroic pose (or at least what he assumes is such a pose) in eyeshot of Andvara.

Once his fellow troubleshooters are ready, he accompanies them to the boat.

As the party begins their discussions of a light source at the mouth of the cave and Becky offers to cast light, Brodigan gives her a smile and says, "An arcanely skilled scholar. We just might have to have a conversation about enrolling you once I get my arcane academy going."

"b]Ready to do what needs to be done to make things safe to start my school,[/b]" Brodigan says, giving Ramona a nod. Of course, he's also remembering the talk of being given priority for existing plots and buildings and is already tossing around ideas of where he wants to set up the academy.

No worries! I just arrived home. I'll try to post tonight after raid or tomorrow after a good night's sleep. I wasn't thinking and hit the road back from DC during rush hour. It just about doubled my drive. Plus it was raining the whole time. Pretty foggy bleh.

Glad you made it back safely and hope your time away was enjoyable :=)

Hearing that Harcourt's issue is more ego-based, Brodigan, who knows him at least passingly from the voyage, steps up to see if he can smooth things over.

"Forgive me if I'm misreading the situation, Lord Carrolby, but I believe the lack of recognition to your title is, shall we say, vexing your spirit? An argument could definitely be made that actions speak louder than words. Why, young Asher over there is no more a noble than my apprentice, yet his sharpshooting is gaining him instant attention. Perhaps if you were to step up to lead the people, by example more so than in words, to follow through with settling and moving forward, that might remind them just how powerful that noble blood in your veins is, eh?"

I'm gonna give the diplomacy a shot. +3 isn't great...and I can just give it a straight roll (no bonus) with Anne if her master blows it...

And yeah, probably didn't get it with those rolls. Sorry, everyone.

GM Ventiine--Trying an RP work-around based on our voyage in. If it's not a legitimate course, change my diplomacy roll to a sense motive roll.

Hearing that Harcourt is one of the troublemakers, and remembering that he and Andvara had seemed somewhat chummy on the voyage over, Brodigan decides to go where he has a stronger connection.

He approaches his potential business partner and greets her with a bow and a kiss of the hand before reassuring her that he is well, the group proved rather competent and up to the task, and shares the story of how he almost had to sacrifice their bottle of whiskey to save Mauro's life.

After this brief chit chat, he turns the conversation to Harcourt, "So, it seems our friend Harcourt is rather ill-content with how things are going. What sort of grievances has the fellow gotten into his head?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Oof!

Human Instructor Wizard 2, 14/14 HP; 14 AC, 13 touch, 11 FF; 12 CMD; +1 Fort, +3 Ref, +3 Will; +0 Perception; 5/7 Force Missiles; 1/1 Draconic Infusion

Bey had asked Ramona who the "troublemakers" on the Peregrine were. Did she give us an answer on that? We kind of jumped right into the combat and I think that may have been missed.

I thought Ramona gave us a small raft to use to get back to the Peregrine and I thought the caster crew would be able to hang out on that to be available in case any casting stuff was going to happen (and to hold Mauro's rope in the event of three tugs being given). Is that not the case?

Human Instructor Wizard 2, 14/14 HP; 14 AC, 13 touch, 11 FF; 12 CMD; +1 Fort, +3 Ref, +3 Will; +0 Perception; 5/7 Force Missiles; 1/1 Draconic Infusion

"I agree with the logic," Brodigan says in response to Bey's suggestion. "And I'll be far more useful in the boat than out of it. If there are beasties, try to get your dolphin friends to lead said threats towards our boat and we caster types can throw you some arcane support. Underwater, where I can't actually speak, it becomes hard to cast," he says, offering a wink and a shrug.

"Such modesty," Brodigan says, "young Becky's knowledge was invaluable. She knew what every creature we encountered was and was able to tell us how to best fight them. Truly a valuable companion," he says, giving a nod her way.

Crispin--Bro and Mo was fabulous!

Brodigan listens on as Becky delivers her account of what happened and finds the gal's account quite accurate, so feels no need to add to it. Instead, as she finishes, he gives a nod and says, "Well said, Becky. A true and accurate account to be sure."

"I would say it makes the most sense to head straight to the extraction point to check in and give our report of what's going on so our fellow travelers will have at least some idea of what dangers are here," Brodigan says using a tone that suggests it's simply a suggestion, not an attempt to force anyone into a decision. He does however, follow it up with an ornery smile as he adds, "And it's probably best to let them know we're still alive."

Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17

Brodigan also takes a look at the strange path and comments, "Hmmm, it's definitely a peculiar path. Could be wheels, or something rolling, Mauro. Or a swarm of something with poky little legs. A crab swarm, maybe? Or scorpions?"

Master Brodigan moves up behind and to the side of his apprentice and mutters some arcane words and unleashes a blast of acid at the creature.

Brodigan moves to the side to get a clearer shot at the final boar and mutters some arcane words as he unleashes a blast of acid at it.

Acid Splash vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

"Looks like it's bacon for lunch, everyone," he calls out with a smile.

The attack should have been at -4 since the boar is in combat, so 19, not 23

Brodigan extends his hand and utters some arcane words as he unleashes his last force missile for the day. Under his breath he mutters, "Gods, if you're listening, keep her safe."

Since the skeleton is in melee with Mama Ankheg, Brodigan is going to use force missile to avoid that -4 penalty.

Brodigan looks genuinely apologetic as he says, "Sorry, mama," followed by some arcane words and an extended hand from which a blast of arcane force smacks right into the creature.

Brodigan sees the creature and recognizes that it is an aptly named choker, but he also recognizes that it seems drunk. Thinking quickly, he calls out to Anne, "The bottle! Pull it out and try to entice him with it!"

And just in case that ploy doesn't work, he prepares himself to fire a force missile at the beast.

Readied action to cast force missile if the beast does not release Mauro to go for the alcohol. Force Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Brodigan and JeVeAnne move around the side of the building. Both are trying to catch some glimpse of what manner of being is lurking there.

Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 +2 more if his Wayfinder would help

While some of the others immediately go to check inside the house, Brodigan notices that some of the plants nearby have been trampled.

Moving back towards the bulk of the group, he points in the direction of the plants and says, "Someone, or maybe something, has trampled through the plants outside recently. Might have just been the Goblin friends we already chased off, but could very well be another creature, or group, has taken up residence here."

Human Instructor Wizard 2, 14/14 HP; 14 AC, 13 touch, 11 FF; 12 CMD; +1 Fort, +3 Ref, +3 Will; +0 Perception; 5/7 Force Missiles; 1/1 Draconic Infusion

Brodigan will stop when Mauro calls for it, but if the plant moves forward to get at Anne, he'll want to resume blasting. Not sure if the thing has roots limiting its movements or if it's more like a leshy and can just wander.

Assuming it doesn't move and the explanation from Mauro happens, Brodigan starts laughing as the other two discuss the "prison term" and the "corn shucking, then he says, "Agreed. So long as this little guy stays rooted, he's no threat anywhere else. And we can blast him from out of his range at harvest time," he says, a nod towards Asher as he mentions ranged attacks.

Oops! Keep forgetting that naturalist adds to my attack roll, not just to aC. Should ahve been a 14 vs touch for the acid splash.

In response to his apprentice's call of "fire," Brodigan says, "How about acid instead?" and mutter some arcane words and sends forth another burst of acid at the creature.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Brodigan reacts quickly and and closes and covers his eyes as the pollen burst erupts. Even as he shields his eyes, he shifts to the side to get a clear shot, and trying to focus through the pollen still hanging in the air, he extends his hand, mutters some arcane words, and unleashes a burst of acid at the creature.

"Great job, Anne! Hold it there," Brodigan says as he moves off to the side to get a clear shot at the little bugger.

Brodigan moves forward while muttering some arcane words and the flicks his hand towards on the the creatures blue and a blast of acid flies from his hand.

And while others who have such skills work on the lock, Brodigan casts detect magic and takes a look around the house,

Human Instructor Wizard 2, 14/14 HP; 14 AC, 13 touch, 11 FF; 12 CMD; +1 Fort, +3 Ref, +3 Will; +0 Perception; 5/7 Force Missiles; 1/1 Draconic Infusion

Perception on Room 2: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16

Perception on Room 3: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8

Brodigan doesn't notice much of anything in the first or third rooms, but in the room with the pallet bed, the wizard takes a moment to peek under the bed and then turns to his party mates saying, "Not the most subtle place to hide something," and points out a small metal chest which seems to be locked. "Not much of a locksmith myself. Care to take a look," he says in general, though looks at least vaguely in Mauro's direction.

Curious at the sight of a spellbook, Brodigan mutters a few arcane words and scans the room casts Detect Magic.

"Gotta side with Mauro here. Bare minimum we should check out the rest of the settlement just to make sure we have fewer potential threats when we do decide to call it a night."

He then looks at the obviously tired summoner and says, "But by all means, take a load off for a bit, maybe grab a bite to eat."

And with that, Brodigan begins looking around for anything in this cabin that might give them more clues about what happened.

Brodigan looks in the direction Asher indicates and then watching the other man move.

"Good thinking," Brodigan says, quickly catching on to what Asher is trying to do. And to support, the wizard moves up rushing behind the creature to, effectively, chase it into Asher's cloak net.

As Brodigan hears a mention of arcane markings referencing a plum tree, he pokes his head back out of the government building and begins looking around to see if there's a plum tree nearby thinking that, perhaps, some sort of clue might be found there.

"Excellent eye, Anne," Brodigan says, taking the offered wand from his apprentice's hand and totally missing her virtually swoon at the compliment. "Hmmm, U.H. Crispin, I believe you'd done some bookkeeping and whatnot regarding the colony, those initials sound ringing any bells?"

And regardless of the answer, he'll continue, "Well, I suppose this could be a good help to us in dealing with pests as we're finding out what happened to the first wave of settlers. Anyone have a preference for using this? If not I'll hang on to it," he says, clearly willing to part with it if another member of the party wants it more.
