Background:
Chris "Bridger" Harkness was a baseball player who suffered a massive head injury from an errant fastball. Desperate to save his life, doctors subjected him to an experimental treatment using wave therapy to reduce the swelling in his brain. The treatment was successful, but Chris soon learned he had gained special abilities after his recovery. His strength was greater than before, and he could hear very faint sounds over extraordinary distances. He also learned his skin and muscles were resistant to injury when he dropped a metal toolbox on his unprotected foot. An accident that should have put him in the hospital didn't leave a single bruise. But his most exciting discovery was that he could force himself to move at incredible speeds, and if he angled his body just right, he could even manage to fly through the air.

After a year of recovery, Chris was released from his baseball contract on a medical hardship. Though he was disappointed about the ending of his career, he now had time to focus on learning more about his powers. He bought a small loft in downtown St. Louis a few blocks away from Busch Stadium, and started a blog covering the Cardinals baseball team. The loft had a few special features that Chris liked, allowing him to slip in and out in relative privacy. For Chris now had another calling - protecting people of St. Louis from those who would prey upon them. Calling himself "Bridger" after the Eads Bridge, Chris steadily gained popularity in the town after he stopped several gang fights on successive nights nearly single-handedly.
