Joana. Thank you.
And thank you to the rest of you too.
Over 200 pages and over 8 years I have been honoured to game with you all. You have brought me hours, weeks of fun and laughter, and always the desire to see "What happens next?"
You have gotten me through hard days of work, and been there the rare moments I've had time to be bored. Reviewing old posts has always been a pleasurable passtime.

Thank you all.

And I am so looking forward to the next few years of gaming with you all.

"NOOOO!!!!"
Braddon's tantrum lasts about a minute as he trashes the room, cursing Lil and using colourful language to describe how he will one day cut off her hands.
After which he suddenly returns to his jovial self. Braddon remains near Tendal, following orders and running errands. While happy to help others out, he waits for a nod from Tendal before complying.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

As an illusionist, she should have cast invisibilty already. If not, we'll just get another protagonist. :-D

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon looks carefully at his companions then makes his way back into the room where he left Lil.
His hands are empty and he calls sweetly, "Darling, are you okay?"

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

(Sorry, didn't realise I'd been spelled...)

Will Save (+2, +2 morale bonus and +2 vs enchantments as a half elf): 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 + 2 = 25

Braddon freezes and looks up.
"Where's Lil?"

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon hauls the bags out from under the bed and empties the contents on top of the bed.
"Well, he's got something. Look at this."

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon catches the armour and shucks his chain shirt, letting Tendal cast his spell.
Braddon pulls Bojasc's armour on.
"What is it?" he asks to Snake and Tendal.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Gold Goblin:
"Of course. That's very clever of you. You're pretty smart. You should be our leader."

Braddon makes his way out of the room and heads next door.
"Lil says this was Bojasc's room. I'll bet there's some goodies in here. I told you she was alright."
Braddon turns the handle and heads inside.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Gold Goblin:
Braddon sits down at the head of the bed and rests back against some pillows with his arms behind his head, watching patiently and enjoying the view.
"Nah. I'm not the leader. Too much responsibility. They bicker about everything and never do as they're told. Who wants to deal with that? I just do as I'm told, and if it's too dumb, I don't do it. Life's too short. I'd rather have a good time."

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon jumps forward and leans past Lil, gallantly opening the door for her.
"Look, don't mind them. They're smart and all, but sometimes all they do is talk about how something can go wrong instead of just doing it."
He ushers Lil through the door and follows her.
"Now me, I'm a man of action."
Braddon slams the door behind him, before the others can enter.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

All she has to do is ask Braddon to help the party and she'll be fine. :-P

Edit: You have no idea how much I hate myself now after that last post. :-)

"No, I don't see it yet. But I should probably collect my things from the bedroom so I'm ready to go when it arrives. If I may?"

"Ooh, the bedroom," Braddon nods in understanding.

"I'll be happy to give you whatever help you need."
Braddon steps between Snake and Lil.
"Don't worry, I got this. We'll be back in ten minutes."
He slides his eyes over Lil again.
"Okay, maybe fifteen."

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon steps back.
"Wanna look? There's lot's of blue and white. Sea?"

Braddon makes his way to the telescope and peers through.
"Wow. This thing is neat. You can see the whole harbour. Which is our ship? A white sail on a blue sea? That's a lot of ships."

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon is a lackey and won't continue the next book if no other character does. But if anyone else stays on, especially Tendal, it'll be easy to transfer Braddon's loyalties. Assuming he stops being charmed ;-)

And while I considered making him an urban ranger, Braddon is just a core ranger with favoured terrain urban and favoured enemy human, which I always keep forgetting. So he won't have issues outside civilisation. I'll just take new enemies and terrain over the next couple of levels :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon obviously votes C... or A when the charm wears off. :-)

As I am invested in Braddon, I lean towards A. We're at the end of the book and it would be nice to feel we've achieved something concrete. But I also like D since we get to kill Lil just later. B causes many more issues unless we hand Lil to Mescher whom Braddon is quite ready to serve. And C is my least favourite since the party has been working against Lil this whole time and none of us are playing very forgiving characters. Especially me with the violent meathead and Phil, the inquistor of the goddess of revenge.

So, assuming D, Braddon is only too happy to help Lil escape for now. Braddon can escape with Lil and become her new charmed lackey and maybe a link into the next book. If we want a whole new party, which may be best if Braddon is the only carry over character, Braddon can be KOed and awaken to be healed and join the rest of the originals at some later point.

I'm happy to leave the dice/GM/story to decide. Please don't kill me just yet though. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Huge thanks to each and every one of you, and especially the amazing Joana for her awesome GMing. It has been fantastic.

I definitely want to keep playing with you all. My preference is to keep Braddon. I made him chaotic nuetral so he could fit wherever at the whims of the players and the story. That said, if everyone else wants to change characters, I'm happy to do so too and let Braddon live happily ever after.

As for cold blooded murder, Braddon is definitely your lackey. His non charmed preference is for Lil to die, horribly and slowly if he gets his way which, hopefully, he never will.

With the charm on, he may well come to not hate Lil and could even serve her if it benefits the story. Braddon is far too easily bought, especially if there's a pretty face.

Let's keep going and see what happens. That's why I love RPGs.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

"Wake him? After what he did to Lil? No way."
Braddon's recently sheathed short sword springs back into his grasp and he turns to Lil.
"What do you say, baby? I can guarantee he'll never bother you again."

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon grins.
"Oliver got punished? Great. I hated his guts. You can count us in to help you. What do we do?""
Braddons sheathes his weapons, decisively.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

And, y'know, we can do both! Kill her and take the treasure. :-)
(Surely Saul's favoured option :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon isn't buying the money thing. While greedy, he did fail as a bounty hunter because of a pretty face. He is vicious and vindictive as well as stupid. And he is nominally working for General Mescher too. If it's vital for the plot, or everyone agrees, he can chaotically change his mind and we can ally with Lil. Otherwise, he's for a killin'! Or at least hand her over tp Mescher.

That said, it'll be a moot point for him in a few minutes anyways. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon narrows his eyes.
"Yes, you do have ways to appear as different people."
He pokes Lil roughly with the sword.
"Mahath figured you turned into a Varisi to get into Ananda's place and kill her housekeeper and poison her. You should give back her necklace. Maybe then the General won't kill you."
Braddon scratches something inside his shirt.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon lifts his sword again.
"But why steal the hidden necklace and toss Gramma over the cliff? How much is this worth?"

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Me too... eventually. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon looks more confused.
"Plan B? But her name starts with 'A'. Does she control Maskyr's Island? Is that why you needed her necklace? Does it control the island? Or does it pull skymetal into the sea? Is that how you get the metal from the sky?"

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon pokes Lil experimentally with his magical short sword and glares at Snake before lowering his weapons. Both weapons remain in hand.
His head turns at the mention of large amounts of wealth but he furrows his brow at the business details.
"How's this fit with Mescher's daughter? And why kill her maid? And what's with all these tidal waves?"

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Drunken Braddon hugs to you all. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

It's probably a good idea to capture her and find out all the schemes, motives and machinations she has going. Unless she's got one of those awesome diaries like in the Kingmaker CRPG which you find on the bodies to let you know their entire backstory.
At the risk of being a hypocrite, I won't be putting in that work. Braddon's just going to keep flailing until she dies, but can be talked down.
You'll have plenty of time the way I'm rolling. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Merry Christmas all and Happy New Year.
Hope you have as much fun as Braddon with a months pay in a temple of Callistria.

Braddon rounds on Lil suddenly.

"You WITCH! You put a spell on me!! I will have your bloody hands off no matter what Sam says you lousy, stinking, filthy piece of..."

Braddon continues his profanities while hammering at Lil with his Bastard Sword and magical short sword.

...oh, I see.
I didn't wait for Tendal and jumped straight in after Phillip's delay.
Oops. Sorry.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon looks to Tendal and lowers his dagger uncertainly.
"I didn't know she had magic protection. You didn't know. I can see now that she has magic... has magic..."
Braddon frowns.

Braddon takes a step back, keeping between Snake and Lil (L3) and shakes his head.
"Nothing to discuss. Bojasc is dead. He used Lil and she's obviously very upset. Now stop being mean to her and tell them to back off!"
Braddon glares at Gristav and Tendal, before sheathing his short sword and smoothly drawing a dagger.
"And don't try any wacky woojoo either. I don't want to hurt you, but I won't let you attack this poor girl. She's been through enough already."
Braddon kicks the body on the ground none too softly.
"You can take dead boy if you want."

"What in the Nine Hells is wrong with you!?" Braddon glares at Gristav and rounds on Tendal. He gives his bastard sword a quarter turn and attempts to smash Tendal in the head.

Damage- non lethal: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

As Gritav fires and Phillip closes in, Braddon rushes back to the side of Scarlet Lil. (L3)
"Guys, I said to BACK OFF! I've got Lil under control."
He brandishes both swords at his companions, albeit still with the flat of the blade turned.

(Attack poor Tendal, then move to L3 provoking attacks of opportunity. Actually, going round Tendal means I'll probably only make it to L4.)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Braddon rolls his eyes and turns to Lil.
"These rubes are useless without me. I'll get rid of them and be back in a moment."
He charges down the steps to land beside Snake (M9)and hacks at the only creature that isn't his friend, the demon.

You have my full permission to use lethal force. If it comes to that Braddon is likely to attack back but because you're confused it'd be non lethal damage. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon turns to his companions, swords lowered but not sheathed.
"Okay guys. We got Bojasc. Head back and tell Saul, and I'll... take care of Lil."
He gives an exaggerated wink and grins.

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Hi all,

So very very sorry to leave you all hanging at such a critical juncture. Glad to have Bojasc removed. You have my full permission to gank, goit or gimp Braddon to take out Lil. With Bojasc leaving me on only 7hp I shouldn't be too hard to remove from the equation.

Darn. I thought I'd been cheating by forgetting to remove that point of strength from my script until then. Now I've just remembered Bojasc is half human... and I should have also been using my favoured enemy bonus.

Swings and roundabouts. :-)

"It's so soft and comfortable. Lil even let her scribe next door, Weatherhead, watch through a hole in the wall." Braddon grins.
"I guess now you'll never find out."

Braddon attacks with both weapons.

But, Braddon is here now to save some... we'll find out. :-)

hp 7 / 38; AC 16; Init +2; 3 Str damage Male Half-elf Ranger 4

Braddon takes a step towards Lil (L4) and brings both weapons to bear against Bojasc.
"Just step behind me, you sexy thing," Braddon gestures over his shoulder. "I'll keep you safe. You can reward me later. I've been keeping an eye on that bed you left behind."
