About Boudra Kellanet
Boudra is a short, slight young woman with long dark hair and dark eyes. Although somewhat shy (a trait her curse has made more prominent), she's friendly and gentle, and is prone to breaking into a gentle smile or quiet laugh at the slightest provocation. She dresses in simple homespun clothes most of the time, in keeping with the other ordinary folk of Nirmathas, but she tends to wear high-backed corsets and/or heavy cloaks--anything to hide the scars on her back from where the Darkblight nearly killed her. She considers the scars ugly and deforming, and is very self-conscious about them.
Boudra Kellanet was born to a lower-class but upwardly mobile young couple in northern Nidal, among the Atteran ranches. Her parents had never planned to flee their homeland--after all, the Atteran family kept the agents of the Umbral Court largely at arm's length, and life wasn't quite as hard in the north as it was in the rest of Nidal. When Boudra was two years old, though, and her strange powers first began to manifest, her parents realized that there was no way they would be able to keep a girl with some sort of control over the shadows themselves out of the hands of the Black Triune in Pangolais. Packing quickly, Rutilus and Viniana Kellanet fled across the plains and over the mountains from Nidal into Nirmathas. They barely survived the journey, and finally settled in a small village in the Fangwood where they could remain anonymous.
Boudra largely grew up in Tursen, and spent years there playing with the other children, learning to manage her curse, and keeping her powers hidden. Her parents' fear of the Umbral Court encouraged her not to experiment too eagerly with her strange powers over shadow and darkness. For the most part, her life as a child was happy. When the Darkblight struck Tursen five years ago, tragedy struck again. Boudra lost her parents and virtually everyone she'd ever known in the assault, and nearly died herself. She managed to escape and survive on her own in the forest for several days before she was found by woodsmen and brought to Phaendar. There, she recovered in the care of one of the town's healers and midwives, and she's lived there ever since.
In Phaendar, Boudra was known as a strange and private girl, but a sweet one who'd proven herself valuable to the town. She's a skilled herbalist and healer, and is able to get along fine in the wild on her own (despite the fact that she's not terribly strong). A part of her lived in constant fear, though, that everything she'd built would be ripped away from her once again, and so she kept a small bag tucked into a corner near the door of her house, filled with all the things she'd need to survive in the wilderness should that day ever come...and it did, when the Ironfang Legion sacked the town.
Having escaped with a small group of citizens, Boudra has quickly established herself as one of the most capable of the large group. Her skills as a woodswoman and (non-magical) healer have been very useful, and the deeper the group goes into the Fangwood, the more comfortable with this rough life she gets. She fears, though, that some of the other citizens are too fragile for this life, and is glad that the group has finally managed to find shelter in the troglodyte warren that she helped to clear.
