Background:

Boleal was always an old dwarf in the eyes of his peers, perpetually more serious and intelligent. Perhaps it was the way he always paused for breath when he talked, or read while the other Dwarves worked or drank. By most standards, Boleal was a poor dwarf - he had no penchant for alcohol, not liking its taste, nor could hold it very well. He thought forges were much too hot, and thus avoided them. Boleal did not worship the dieties the other dwarves revered. Boleal wanted nothing to do with the gods, for he saw nothing important of such figures who would rather interfere in the realm of men's desires than their own worries.
It is unsurprising, therefore, that Boleal also had no interest in the mines of Angur'khul. Boleal looked down upon the old ways, the uselessness of preparing for battles that would never come, and even when they did, were fruitless and without much worth. He felt that the new ways, of simple labor and toil, were far more fit for his clan.
Boleal decided to practice the magical arts through self study, hoping for them to come in handy in the case of needed defense or simply work. He studied what rare magical items he could get, in hopes of adapting them to more personal uses. When the elders told of the clan that the mines had been reopened, Boleal was initially disheartened, as he saw it clinging to the lost dreams of the clan. But, as he realized, there was also much more down there: lost artifacts, deep magic, and - of course - gold. Boleal volunteered for the effort, bringing his spells and penchant for cooking to whomever would join him.
Boleal only has his father and sister left - his mother died in the childbirth of the second son, and said son died in the next winter. His sister tends to avoid him, usually due to his unpopular opinions, but his father is still kind and friendly to him.

Appearance and Personality:

Boleal is a gruff-looking dwarf, with blondish hair and brown eyes. He keeps his hair long, but prefers it neatly trimmed, a luxury he usually does not keep with him. He prefers to keep cool, and tends to wear light clothes, usually in the form of robes.

Boleal is critical, harsh in most critique and not afraid to point out what would be considered off-topic. He is meticulous in his practices, taking serious effort in the most basic of tasks. He quickly gets frustrated when not being able to do something correctly, and his stubbornness may keep him doing so for some time. He prefers people who perform more "rationally," and takes a dislike to those who take action without much forethought.
