Backstory

Bjorn Bearwrestler was a hunter, skilled in the ways of the wilds. It is said of him that he fought a bear with nothing but his hands, being caught by the beast with an empty quiver. Bjorn lost one eye, the bear lost his life. Bjorn had a wife, and she was named Sigrun, and as a Valkyrie she was skilled in the ways of battle, so that she was huscarl to the Jarl. And Bjorn and Sigrun had a daughter, one only, for a wound had made Sigrun's womb barren as the icy plains. This daughter had name Blommhilde, and in weaponskill she surpassed her mother.
Witches were roaming the lands at the time, as speak the sagas:
Strong was the witch Thorngerd | powerful in dark magic
and first of three sisters | they ran through city and wild
a blight to all the land | till steel was raised against them

The Jarl raised his banner against the witches, and all who could wield a weapon rose to the call, and Sigrun was with them, and so was Bjorn, and so was Sigrun. And in the battle the witches fell, but so did many, and Sigrun was among them. Thrice was she cursed, twice she rose back up. But so strong was the curse, that it spread to her daughter.

Winter and summer passed and still the girl lie feverish, no use were the decoctions of the healer woman, Frigga stood silent. And two wasted away, as Bjorn was strong in body, but frail in spirit. Grief consumed him, and no furs he sold, and his food was scarce. And it was in the coldest night that thrice was knocked at his door. Three women stood in the snow, and one was young, one was grown, and one was ancient, and they demanded hospitality. Little food had Bjorn, but all he had he shared with the travelers, and to them he offered his bed for the night. As Bjorn fell asleep, the three rose, and moved to Blommhilde's bed, paying the father no heed.

woved moonlight, breeze and song | a silver thread through her soul
that time was lost and granted | for bread and shelter given

As morning rose, Blommhilde was whole again, her eyes watching over the world, such was Urd's gift. And her blood was charged with the healing powers of a cunning woman, such was Verdandi's gift. And her face was aged, her hair streaked with silver, that was Skuld's curse, for the gift they bestowed upon her had a cost greater than Bjorn's bread. Donning her mother's armor, she healed and learned the ways of magic. And great was her pride when she was chosen as the Jarl's housecarl, a white-haired old woman clad in dark steel standing as the Lord's shield.

Appearance
--------------------

Clad in gray furs over dark steel, Blommhilde stands tall and proud, jaw squared in a steely expression. Her face is aged and her hair is silver-streaked, but the tome of her muscle suggests a strength far beyond the age she shows. A greataxe is strapped across her back, a warhammer hangs at her belt, and her demeanor shows that she knows how to use them. Noticeably, there are no shields on her.

Personality
--------------------

Never one for flowery speeches or hypocrisy, Blommhilde is blunt and direct with her words, speaking her mind whenever her opinion is asked, and most of the times it is not. She's prone to sarcasm whenever she disagrees with someone (which happens quite often), but she'd never refuse a call for help or healing. Her skill in bringing out the truth and her fairness has made her trusted and renowned as a fair arbiter for those small questions unworthy of bringing before a Thing.
And she is known as a fierce warrior, a protector ready to take blows for her companions and allies, and a fierce juggernaut, hardier to take down than a mountain giant.
