About "Big Jim" Fuzzyfeet
James Draconis Fuzzyfeet was born on the Steaming Sea island of Hermea, 20 years ago. His mother and father were “chosen” for the Grand Experiment, despite each being a Halfling, due to their impressive talents. His mother is a Scaled Fist, who has devoted herself to the ancient draconic fighting styles, devoted to ferocity and confidence in every aspect of her life. His father is a warpriest, who has devoted himself to the tenants of Good and Law, with a reverence of metallic dragons and an almost fanatical belief in the Grand Experiment. Each were on Hermea for more than a decade when they met. They were drawn to each other, due to their fairly unique racial heritage, and fell in love. Shortly after, their son was born. He was given the name James, as a sign of respect for a dear friend of theirs on the island. Draconis is the surname that his father chose for himself upon arrival to the island. Fuzzyfeet is the surname of his mother, and most of her family reside in Andoran.
James spent the first 8 years of his life practicing with and learning from his mother and father. His development put to shame most of the other children near to his age. He was given the nickname “Big Jim” by some of the human children that he frequently spent time with, and while it was meant tongue in cheek by them, the truth is that he has always been both tall and heavy by the standards of his race. He wears the nickname with pride. Big Jim is fairly strong for a Halfling, but he really shines with both speed and agility. He’s faster and quicker than most everyone he knows, including the humans and elves that he knows. His mother hasn’t been able to teach him to be intimidating and likable like her. He hasn’t really taken to his mother’s teachings, nor those of his father, but Big Jim has taken careful notes of everything that his they have tried to teach him. With both parents imparting a healthy respect for both Law and Good, and given Hermea’s devotion to community and personal morality, Big Jim is completely devoted to each. His belief in Law is more about personal code and strict adherence to routine, there is an incredible devotion to family, community, and team.
Big Jim’s father fits into the Hermean way of life easily, as he doesn’t have an affinity for any organized religion, nor for any particular deities. His devotion is to the general principles of Good and Law. Big Jim’s mother, however, keeps her beliefs mostly to herself. She’s a devoted follower of Chaldira Zuzaristan, and Big Jim picked up that same devotion. Unfortunately for his family, as a child, he lacked the savvy to keep this religious zeal to himself. Around the age of 8, he first drew the attention of the local councilwoman. The family was talked to, and coached up on Hermea’s policy of no organized religion. Over the next 4 years, as he continued to develop, he occasionally made this same mistake. Finally, at the age of 12, Big Jim was asked to leave the island. His mother decided to leave with her son, and take him to her family in Andoran. His father, on the other hand, chose to remain on Hermea. He loves his family, but he believes in the Grand Experiment so much, that he opted to remain behind. The ship that took Big Jim and his mother from Hermea, traveled first to Oppara, and then to Absalom. There, they intended to change ships to one heading to Andoran. On the first ship, from Oppara to Absalom, they met a human boy and his mother. The boy, named Trajan, is the same age as Big Jim. The mother grew ill and died en route to Absalom, and the boy was left without any family or means. It became clear that the boy would have been sold into slavery upon arrival at Absalom, so Big Jim’s mother threatened the captain and crew with pain and loss if they didn’t allow her to take the child. Since the boy’s mother had paid for their passage, the crew had no real claim to the boy, so they easily submitted to the fierce and terrifying monk. The boy traveled with Big Jim and his mother to Andoran, and was adopted into their family. Big Jim and his adopted brother spent the next 8 years living and training together with Big Jim’s mother in the Birthplace of Freedom. Big Jim found fighters at home that showed him the joys of armor and shields. At the age of 20, each joined the Pathfinder Society, and each joined the Liberty’s Edge faction. While they see each other often, they spend a lot of time apart as well, as is the life of a Society member. Their mother returned to Hermea to see her husband on multiple occasions, but was no longer allowed permanent residence or admittance. She sees him once a year, on her trek to Promise, and spends the rest of her time as an agent of freedom in Andoran. She sees her sons whenever possible, and is incredibly proud of their choices in life.
Big Jim Fuzzyfeet has devoted himself to protecting his partymates from harm. He’s become a fighter that delights in the front lines. However, he continues to peruse the notes that he took from his mother and father’s teachings, hoping to one day understand them more fully. He also continues to feel the draw of Chaldira, and grows in his faith to the Calamitous Turn, specifically in her areas of Good and Battle.
